Health Forum Identifies Collaboration and Innovation as Key to Drive in Cancer Care

THE fight against cancer in the Philippines is evolving, thanks to the collective efforts of healthcare providers, government agencies, local government units, and patient advocates. The media forum titled ” Synergizing strengths and collaborative efforts to drive progress and innovation in cancer care” organized by the Philippine Society of Oncologist (PSO) and advocacy program Hope From Within, highlights the need to strengthen collaboration across sectors to drive progress and innovation in cancer care.

Effectively navigating the cancer journey requires different sectors coming together to provide comprehensive support for patients. The health Forum spotlights efforts from the national government through the leadership of the Department of Health ( DOH), local government units (LGUs)and even from the private sector, that stand out as best practices in cancer care. These initiatives show how working together broadens access, improve outcomes and strengthens community support in the fight against cancer.

Dr. Herdee Luna, President of the Philippine Society of Oncologist, underscores the importance of collaboration in the ongoing fight against cancer.

“True progress in cancer care comes when we unite across sectors– healthcare providers, local governments, patient advocates, and the private sector — all working toward a shared goal. The commitment to collaboration enables us to push boundaries, innovate, and create solutions that ensure no one is left behind in the fight against this disease.”

Best Practices in Cancer Care

The Department of Health leads the way with the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA), a landmark legislation that aims to provide timely access to optimal cancer treatment and care. The law established the Cancer and Supportive -Palliative Medicines Access Program (CSPMAP) and the Cancer Assistance Fund ( CAF). CSPMAP provides free medication to cancer patients, while CAF offers financial help for treatments and diagnostics. Together, these programs reduce the financial strain on patients and ensure timely, affordable care.

The ACT NOW: Prime Care for Breast Cancer is an example of a community organized screening and patient navigation program that highlights the importance of early detection. Since breast cancer is one of the most common but treatable cancers in the country, this program focuses on organized screening. It uses online education, self-exams, and mobile clinic breast exams to connect patients to treatment. This approach helps detect cancer early, improving survival rates and access to medical resources.

Improving access to cancer care

A key theme at this health forum is providing equitable access to cancer care for all Filipinos. The Z Benefits package addresses patients with catastrophic illnesses, identified as childhood acute lymphotic leukemia (ALL), breast cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer, among others.

Initially covering P210, 000 of the cost for ALL and P100,000 each for breast and prostate cancer, the Z Benefits package for breast cancer was recently raised to P1.4 million, a 1,400 percent increase.

Precision medicine is also a major focus, thanks to initiatives like the Hit the Mark campaign. This program ensures lung cancer patients receive targeted treatment through accurate, timely biomarker testing. In terms of access to biomarker testing, three biomarkers – PD-L1, EGFR, and ALK — have been unified in a lung panel test to benefit cancer patients for the first time, through the initiative of diagnostics laboratories.

Don’t miss Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in “Joker: Folie à Deux”, discover the madness in this musical-infused sequel

Posted on: September 26th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

THE wait is finally over! The most anticipated chaotic duo is about to return to the big screen, bringing mayhem and madness along with them.

Tickets for “Joker: Folie à Deux” are now available, and you don’t want to miss this haunting sequel starring Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix and global music icon Lady Gaga. The film opens in cinemas on October 2, so mark your calendars!

At this year’s CinemaCon, Joker director Todd Phillips teased what makes this sequel even more intriguing. “It’s a film where music is an essential element,” Phillips shared. “Arthur [Fleck]’s weird and aloof and all these things, but he has music in him. He has a grace to him. That informed a lot of the dancing in the first film… it didn’t feel like that big of a step here. It’s different, but I think it’ll make sense when you see it.”

Phillips hinted that this film pushes Arthur Fleck’s character even further as the Joker explores not only madness but also music. Lady Gaga joins the film in a significant role, bringing her musical prowess into a world filled with chaos and tragedy.

Set against the chilling backdrop of Arkham Asylum, Joker: Folie à Deux dives into the fractured mind of Arthur Fleck as he awaits trial for his notorious crimes. Caught between his Joker persona and his fading grip on reality, Arthur stumbles into an unexpected romance that shapes his journey. With music as a driving force in the narrative, fans are eager to see how this love story intertwines with the Joker’s inevitable descent.

Make sure you’ve got your tickets ready! Joker: Folie à Deux distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Discovery company, will premiere exclusively in cinemas on October 2. With its dark allure, gripping performances, and musical elements, this is one cinematic experience you won’t want to miss.

Secure your seat and get ready for an unforgettable ride!

Posted on: September 26th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“I do business at night after everything. I have to work during the day. I really want to grow into it, learn more about it, explore and travel, and understand Filipino infusion.

“I’m starting here at Inasal Republic and as to why I entered the inasal industry. It’s not a big industry but because of course I trust the product. I won’t jump into something if I don’t trust it, just like everybody else,” banggit pa ni Arjo.

Posted on: September 26th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Kuwento pa ng butihing producer, “we will also air it on radio as drama series through DZRH (both radio version and video version), on Viva One and right now it has 10 million subscribers, not only in the Philippines, marami ring OFW.”

“Even Viva is not getting any manager’s commission. Tulong ito. Ang nabibigay lang namin sa kanila ay honorarium for food, transportation, and basic expenses.”

Dagdag pa niya, “The people here are real heroes, bayani sila.

Palagi akong nabu-bully, all boys kasi kami. And I talk to a lot of people naman, sabi ng pari namin, ‘it’s doesn’t matter who is right or wrong. Ang importante kung sino ang nakakaintindi.

“And there’s a kind of understanding that you will reach. At pag minahal mo yun, that understanding, everything will flow in a good Godly way. God will bless you, God will help you, with this people God will find a way.

“And eventually, yung bullying, if you succeed, parang lahat ng mga nam-bully sa ‘yo, mapapatawad mo, something na hindi nila nakikita.

“And I think everything happens for a reason.”

Posted on: September 26th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“This year I appreciate [you all], and not only that, everytime that I’m on stage with the band, I feel this immense gratitude, humility and honor,” saad ni Arnel.

Kasabay nito ang pagtugon niya sa hindi niya magandang performance sa Brazil concert, at siya pa mismo ang naglagay ng link ng tugtugin sa “Behind the Songs” page, at inihayag na, “no one more than me in this world feels so devastated about this.

“It’s really amazing how one thousand right things you have done will be forgotten just cause of this and of all the places, it’s in Rock In Rio,” saad ni Arnel.

Ayon kay Arnel, “I suffered emotionally and mentally” at tinanong ang fans kung dapat pa ba siyang manatili sa banda o hindi na.

“I am offering you a chance now (lalo na ang mga galit sa kaniya) to simply text GO or STAY right here,” lahad ng Pinoy singer.

“And if GO reaches 1 million. I’m stepping out for good. Are you game folks? Let’s start.”

Aniya, “I am truly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here. The support from my Filipino fans has been overwhelming, and there is so much more I want to accomplish.”

He’s a very strong person.

“I visited him every week. From April to mga August, mga twice a month kasi mahal din ang ticket ng eroplano. Tapos everything that I was working for went to the plane tickets and what he needed na.

“So you know, you would really do if halimbawa yung commitment ninyo is strong with one another, you won’t give up, di ba? Talagang you would still, kahit nakakapagod especially nung every week ako lumilipad.“

Noong tanungin ni Marina si Ricardo kung ano ang gusto nitong gawin pag-uwi nito, gusto lang daw nito magpahinga“Sabi niya right now, gusto ko lang magpahinga. Kasi siyempre, I don’t think we can totally describe yung pinagdaanan ni Richard doon, how it was emotionally, mentally, psychologically, ‘di ba?”

Posted on: September 26th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments
