COVID-19 suspect, probable cases gumaling dahil sa VCO: DOST-FNRI study

Lumabas sa pag-aaral ng Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) na epektibo bilang adjunct supplement o dagdag na sangkap sa pagkain ang virgin coconut oil (VCO) ng mga pasyenteng suspect at probable sa COVID-19.
Ayon sa DOST, kapansin-pansin ang pagbuti ng lagay ng clinical trial participants mula ikalawa hangang ika-18 araw ng paggamit nila sa VCO supplement.
“Symptoms in the VCO group significantly declined in day two and no more symptoms were observed in day 18. Compared to the controlled group that showed improvement in day 3 and no symptoms only in day 23,” ani Science Sec. Fortunato dela Pena.
Halos 60 pasyente ng Sta. Rose Community Hospital sa Laguna ang sumali sa trial na tumagal ng 28-araw. Ang kalahati sa kanila ay nakatanggap ng 0.6-mililleters o tatlong kutsara ng VCO kada araw, habang ang kalahati ay nakatanggap ng placebo.
Hindi ikinonsidera ng pag-aaral ang mga pasyenteng may history na ng komplikasyon sa puso, mataas na cholesterol, walang sintomas at mga buntis.
Ayon sa Ateneo faculty at miyembro ng research team na si Dr. Fabian Dayrit, ginamit nilang batayan sa pagiging epektibo ng VCO ang C Reactive Protein (CRP) sa dugo ng mga pasyente.
Kung bumaba raw ng 5-milligrams ang CRP sa dugo, ibig sabihin ay gumaling sa impeksyon ang pasyente.
“Ito yung marker na mas mababa doon ay evidence na wala kang inflammation at malinaw doon sa result nila na bumaba talaga ang CRP levels ng mga kumuha ng VCO. Yung mga hindi kumuha ay hindi gaanong bumaba, nag-stabilize lang sya,” ani Dr. Fabian.
