Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto Meets Working Group for the Manila Film Festival

MANILA Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto met the technical working group of The Manila Film Festival (TMFF) recently, to discuss the preparations for its upcoming launch during the Araw ng Maynila celebration in June this year.

The February 23, 2023 meeting that was held at the Vice Mayor’s office discussed, among other matters, the timelines for the TMFF including the submission of screenplays. And even if final dates have yet to be established, target dates for the review of the screenplays submitted by the various participating schools, up to its screening in Manila theaters during the Araw ng Maynila celebration this year were discussed.

According to Nieto, the Festival aims to inspire the Manilenos, especially the young cinematography enthusiasts, to use and engage their talents in developing Filipino films for screening every time the City of Manila commemorates its founding anniversary.

“Gusto po naming bigyan ng magandang saysay at karagdagang kasiyahan ang nalalapit na pagdiwang ng Araw ng Maynila, sa pamamagitan ng maayos na pag buhay muli ng Manila Film Festival.” (We would like to give more essence and fun to the upcoming Manila Founding Anniversary celebration through the smooth re-launching of the Manila Film Festival), Nieto who is an award winning actor himself said.

A project of Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto in cooperation with Artcore Productions, the revitalized Manila Film Festival, a program that was started by then First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos during the early 70s but was shelved when the Metro Manila Film Festival was organized, will  be an added feature to this year’s celebration of Araw ng Maynila.
