Sasabak ang isang six-man Philippine surfing team sa World Surfing Games sa hangaring makahugot ng tiket sa Olympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan sa Hulyo.
Bibiyahe bukas sina 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Nilbie Blancada, SEA Games silver medalist Jay-R Esquivel, SEA Games bronze medalist Daisy Valdez, SEA Games bronze medalist John Mark ‘Marama’ Tokong, Edito ‘Piso’ Alcala Jr. at Vea Estrellado patungo sa El Sunzal, El Salvador para lumahok sa Olympic qualifying meet.
Nakatakda ang World Surfing Games sa Mayo 29 hanggang Hunyo 6 kung saan sasalang ang anim na national surfers sa shortboard category.
“The top Asian who finishes will qualify for the Olympics,” sabi ni United Philippine Surfing Association (UPSA) president Dr. Raul Canlas.
Hindi na gagamitin ng International Surfing Association (ISA) sa World Surfing Games ang qualifying format at sa halip ay magsisilbi itong automatic qualifier para sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
