Teaser Trailer For Edgar Wright’s ‘Last Night in Soho’ Reveals Neon-filled Time-traveling Ghost Story

DIRECTOR Edgar Wright (Baby Driver and Shaun of the Dead) is coming back with a new film!

This time, it’s for the psychological horror film Last Night in Soho, which stars The Queen’s Gambit‘s Anya Taylor-Joy and Jojo Rabbit‘s Thomasin McKenzie.

Just before its release in the US, Focus Features dropped the film’s teaser trailer, which gives us a hint on how wild things will go in the film.

Last Night in Soho follows McKenzie’s Eloise — an aspiring fashion designer who suddenly finds herself in 1960s London. It’s there that she ends up inside the body of Taylor-Joy’s Sandy — a wannabe singer, who’s also Eloise’s idol. She then realizes that 1960s is not as it appears to be and that the past and present seem to fall apart with shady consequences.

The film’s distributor, Focus Features, describes Last Night in Soho as a “psychological thriller,” which is a notable change of pace from Wright’s usual preference for action and comedy.

Wright’s toyed with horror before in Shaun of the Dead, but the Soho trailer, with its neon reds and blues and focus on knives and / or stabbing is also harkening back to popular Italian “giallo” horror films — specifically the work of director Dario Argento, even more specifically, his 1977 film Suspiria.

The film comes from director Edgar Wright, who also penned the script, alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Joining McKenzie and Taylor-Joy in this film are Matt Smith, Diana Rigg, Rita Tushingham, Terence Stamp, Jessie Mei Li, and more.

Last Night in Soho is scheduled for release in US cinemas this October 22.
