Courteney Cox Reveals When ’Scream 6’ Is Set To Begin Filming

COURTENEY Cox has revealed when Scream 6 is planned to begin filming.
The actress recently returned to her iconic role as Gale Weathers with the debut of the 2022 iteration of Scream, which premiered earlier this year in January. Cox has appeared as Weathers in every installment of the franchise and is apparently already gearing up for the next one as well.
2022’s Scream dusted off Wes Craven’s beloved franchise in a big way. Passing the baton from the late Craven (who passed away in 2015) to Ready or Not filmmakers, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the latest film brought the Ghostface killer back to Woodsboro. In classic Scream fashion, the film was a careful dissection of horror genre tropes – in this case, taking particular aim at the Force Awakens-esque legacyquel.
Scream ultimately proved to be a massive hit at the box office, actually putting up a commendable fight against box office juggernaut Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The huge success of the latest installment in the Scream franchise has made a sixth film inevitable. That said, it seems that the arrival of the next film in the series may come fairly soon.
In fact, during an appearance on the Just For Variety podcast (via Cinemablend), Cox opened up and confirmed that she already has the script and expects to film in June. She explained: “I got the script yesterday. I haven’t read it yet, I just got it. … I’m excited to read it, and I know they’re gonna start filming I think in June, in Canada. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say anything. Let me tell you the killer!”
So, audiences can rest easy knowing that the story for Scream 6 has already been written and delivered to the actors. As of right now, the sequel is set to begin filming in Canada this summer, which (barring unforeseen delays in production) makes a 2023 release window possible. While it is now confirmed that Cox will be returning to the Scream universe when she goes on set in June, it is still unclear if Neve Campbell’s Sydney Prescott will return to join Gale Weathers on the next adventure.
A quick turnaround on Scream 6 makes quite a bit of sense from a business perspective. The latest film came over a decade after the release of Scream 4 and capitalized on audience nostalgia for that particular brand of horror. Now that the iron is hot, the creative team behind the next film can strike quickly and hopefully continue that success. For now, audiences will just have to hope that Campbell also comes back as Sydney, and that these two legacy Scream heroes survive the next film. (source: screenrant.com)
