Margot Robbie’s First-LOOK As Barbie Has Been Revealed

MARGOT Robbie’s Barbie movie gets a first-look image with the Oscar-nominated actress in her signature pink convertible.

Though the popular toy has received a number of animated films over the years, Barbie’s first live-action venture has gone through a rather unique journey. First put into development in 2014, Barbie was once set to star Amy Schumer as the beloved blonde doll but she later departed the project, and after a few more years of uncertainty, Barbie seemed to finally find its footing at Warner Bros.

Now Barbie is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing movies of the next year. Robbie will star as the title character, while Ryan Gosling is set to play her well-known partner, Ken. Other cast members include Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, America Ferrara, Michael Cera, and Issa Rae, among many others. Greta Gerwig (Little Women) and Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story) have penned the script, and Gerwig serves as director.

As part of WB’s CinemaCon presentation, the studio unveiled the very first look at Robbie as Barbie. Screen Rant was on hand for the announcement, though Warner Bros. later debuted the image online for fans to see. Additionally, the studio confirmed Barbie will arrive in theaters on July 21, 2023.

As far as first impressions go, this Barbie image promises good things for the film. Robbie certainly looks the part with her bright smile and blonde locks. She already seemed like excellent casting, but this picture cements it. The pink set – car included – fits with the signature Barbie style and suggests the film will maintain the overall look of the long-running toy line.

While the image doesn’t give much away in terms of plot, it does show that Gerwig has some appealing visuals ahead for Barbie. It will be quite interesting to see what the rest of the movie has in store, though with a July 2023 release date, it might be some time before anything new emerges.

Between the star-studded cast, unique source material, and Gerwig and Baumbach’s attachment, Barbie has already drummed up a significant amount of buzz. This is a film that could’ve been very surface-level in its approach to the feminine toy, yet even without any plot details being revealed, it already looks like Barbie will be a nuanced take on the character.

Warner Bros. is certainly betting big on this one; the July date coincides with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. (source: screenrant.com)
