Mga private school teachers kailangan din ng salary increase tulad ng public school teachers

TINULIGSA ni Deputy Minority Leader at ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro ang Department of Education sa pagtanggi nito sa hinihinging salary increase ng mga guro mula sa public at private sectors.

Ayon sa mambabatas, dismayado at nababahala siya sa pahayag ng DepEd na hindi prayoridad ang upgrading o dagdag sahod ng mga guro sa public school.

Aniya, naiiwan ang mga public school teachers ng ibang propesyon sa kabila na may kahalintulad silang kuwalipikasyon.

Pinakamababa ang sahod ng mga guro kumpara sa ibang teachers sa ibang southeast Asian countries.

“For the longest time, the government has been denying public school teachers salary increases by pitting their salaries against teachers in the private sector, which is wrong because most private school teachers are paid at very low rates, even near-starvation salaries. Salaries of public school teachers should set the standard for salaries in the private school, not the other way around,” dagdag ni Castro.

Matagal nang nasa frontline ang mga guro sa pagbibigay ng edukasyon sa kabila ng kakulangan ng suporta mula sa gobyerno, gamit ang sariling pera para ipambili ng learning materials, o internet connection para sa blended learning modalities.

Isinulong ng partylist ang House Bill 203 o An Act Upgrading the Salary Levels of Public School Teachers to Salary Grade 15 and Teaching Personnel in Higher Education to Salary Grade 16, and Increasing the Salaries of Non-Teaching Personnel to P16,000.

Kabilang na ang House Bill 562 o An Act Increasing the Minimum Salaries of Private School Teachers to P30,000 per month. (Ara Romero)
