Sa isinusulong na vegetable gardening… Land-use conversion dapat itigil

SA muling pagsusulong ni Senadora Cynthia Villar ng vegetable gardening bilang solusyon sa food crisis, dapat ipatigil ng bagong administrasyon ang conversion ng sakahang lupa sa subdivisions o commercial areas.
Ayon sa Anakpawis Party-list at Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), karamihan sa mga nasabing lupa ay ginagamit bilang taniman ng bigas tuwing tag-ulan at gulay tuwing panahon ng tag-init.
“Tinutulak din namin ang vegetable gardening kahit sa mga baryo, laluna noong 2020 lockdown, kung saan wala namang ayudang binigay ang gubyerno. Gayunpaman, mas superyor na solusyon ang kagyat na pagpapatigil ng land use conversion para manatili itong lupa para sa produksyon ng pagkain, at hindi para maging subdivision,” ayon kay Rafael Mariano, Anakpawis Party-list National Chairperson at Chairperson Emeritus ng KMP.
Kabilang sa listahan ng mga hinihingi ng KMP sa gobyerno ay ang pagpapalabas ng executive order para ipatigil ang “conversion of agricultural lands devoted to or suitable for the production of stable food crops.”
Sinabi pa nito na maraming mga magsasaka ang gustong magtanim ngunit inaagawan umano ng lupa at pinapalayas.
“Kaya natural lang, na nakaapekto ito sa kabuuang suplay ng pagkain. Ang mga ina-announce ng gubyerno ngayon ay panay iwas sa pinakakrusyal na usaping dapat manatili sa lupa ang mga magsasaka para lumikha ng pagkain. Kaya sa kagyat, dapat itigil ang mga land-use conversion at panatiliin ang food production,” pagtatapos ni Mariano. (BISHOP JESUS “JEMBA” M. BASCO)
