Narco-cops walang lusot, hahabulin kahit magretiro

TINIYAK ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr. na kahit pa magretiro na ay hindi pa rin makakatakas sa imbestigasyon at prosekusyon ang mga tinaguriang narco-cops o yaong mga pulis na hinihinalang sangkot sa illegal drug trade sa bansa.
Sinabi ni Abalos na umaarangkada na sa ngayon ang case build-up laban sa mga hinihinalang narco cops.
Binigyang-diin ni Abalos na ang proseso na isinasagawa nila ay hindi magtatapos lamang sa pagtanggap sa courtesy resignation ng mga police officials na hinihinalang sangkot sa illegal drugs.
Ayon kay Abalos, gagamiting gabay ng 5-man Advisory Group at ang National Police Commission (Napolcom) ang mga ebidensiyang hawak nila sa pagsasampa ng kaukulang kaso sa mga ito.
“The process does not end upon the acceptance of courtesy resignation,” ani Abalos.
“As I previously stated, even if a police official is allowed to retire for the time being, the monitoring and investigation must continue, to gather evidence that may lead to eventual criminal prosecution. We must always act within the rule of law. As a lawyer, I want to make sure that cases filed shall succeed and can withstand court litigation,” dagdag pa niya.
Tiniyak ni Abalos na ang retirement ng mga pulis, na may kinalaman sa illegal drug trade, ay hindi nangangahulugang absuwelto na sila dahil bubuo aniya ang departamento ng solidong kaso laban sa mga ito upang ma-prosecute ang mga ito. (Daris Jose)
