Biden, pormal nang nanumpa bilang 46th US president

Opisyal nang nanumpa bilang ika-46 pangulo ng Estados Unidos si Joe Biden.
Idinaos ang kanyang panunumpa sa US Capitol, na pinangasiwaan ni Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
Sa kanya namang unang talumpati bilang US president, nanawagan si Biden na magkaroon ng bagong simula sa pulitika sa kanilang at pagtanggi sa aniya’y pagmanipula sa katotohanan.
“At this time in this place let’s start afresh. All of us must begin to listen to one another again, to hear one another, see one another, show respect to one another,” wika ni Biden.
“And we must reject the culture in which facts themselves are manipulated and even manufactured,” dagdag nito.
Umapela rin si Biden na itakwil ang “political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism.”
“American has to be better than this,” ani Biden.
“This is our historic moment of crisis and challenge,” dagdag nito, “and unity is the path forward.”
Nanawagan din si Biden ng pagkakaisa at kanya ring tinuligsa ang nangyaring karahasan sa US Capitol noong Enero 6.
“Now, on this hallowed ground, where just a few days ago violence sought to shake this country’s very foundation,” sambit ni Biden.
“We come together as one nation, under God, indivisible and carry out the peaceful transfer of power as we have for more than two centuries.”
Sa edad na 78-anyos, si Biden ang pinakamatandang manunungkulan bilang presidente ng Amerika.
Siya rin ang ikalawang pangulo ng Estados Unidos na isang Katoliko, sunod kay John F. Kennedy.
Samantala, nanumpa na rin si Kamala Harris bilang kauna-unahang babaeng bise presidente ng Estados Unidos.
Si Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor ang nangasiwa sa oath of office ni Harris.
Nanumpa si Harris sa bibliyang na pagmamay-ari ni dating Supreme Court Chief Justice Thurgood Marshall, ang unang Black member ng US high court. (ARA ROMERO)
