DOTr: Bike lane network pinalawak

INIHAYAG ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) na nadagdagan ng 68 na kilometro ang bicycle lane network bilang bahagi ng adhikain ng pamahalaan na ipagpatuloy na palakasin ang active transportation sa bansa.
Nagkaron ng inagurasyon ang South at East Metro Manila bike lane network noong nakaraang linggo ang DOTr kasama ang Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Sa ngayon ay mayron ng kabuohang 563.57 na kilometro ang bicycle lane network ang tapos ng ilagay sa Metro Manila, Metro Cebu at Metro Davao.
Ang East Metro Manila bike lane ay may layong 17.2 na kilometro sa kahabaan ng anim (6) na road sections sa Marikina City habang may 49.36 na kilometro naman sa South Metro Manila bike lane sa tatlong (3) road sections na dumadaan sa Las Pinas, Muntinlupa at Paranaque.
“The South and East Metro Manila bike lane network aims to connect the existing bike lane in the metropolis and extend active transport infrastructure in other areas adjacent to the existing network to provide safety for all road users,” wika ng DOTr.
Ang mga bike lane network ay may nakalagay na signages, solar studs para sa visibility sa gabi, pavement markings at physical separators tulad ng bollards, concrete delineators at bike racks.
Binigyan ng pondo ang proyekto sa ilalim ng Republic Act 11494 o ang tinatawag na Bayanihan to Recover as One Act of 2020 na mula sa General Appropriations Act of 2021.
Naniniwala ang DOTr na ang pagtatayo at paglalagay ng bike lanes ay upang palakasin ang active transportation kung saan ito ay isang mabisa at kapaki-pakinabang na paraan ng paglalakbay sa gitna ng pandemya na isinusulong ang kaligtasan ng mga pedestrians at cyclists.
“Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade believes in this program that he gave me special instructions to make sure that we include active transport as one of our proposals for the 2023 budget, hoping that the next DOTr chief will continue the project,” saad ni DOTr undersecretary Giovanni Lopez.
