Gobyerno, binatikos ang US report ukol sa human rights situation sa Pinas

KINASTIGO ng gobyerno ang pinagsama-samang report ng US State Department hinggil sa human rights situation sa buong bansa kabilang na ang extensive entry sa Pilipinas.

Sinabi ni Communications Secretary at acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar na ang findings o natuklasan sa Pilipinas sa 2021 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices ay “ nothing but a rehash of old and recycled issues by the perennial detractors of the Duterte administration.”

Ang Washington “once again displayed how infirmed its intelligence gathering is,” ayon kay Andanar sa kalatas.

“We strongly suggest that the United States State Department validate reports that reach their office, triangulate the same with all other open and institutional sources, and put to work its political officers in the US embassy in the Philippines who can then properly verify the same with the Philippine government,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Sinabi naman ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na : “Absent these data, the accusations are nothing but innuendos and [a] witch hunt. At worst, the State Department has become a gullible victim of black propaganda.”

Aniya pa rin, ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ang “most trusted at most approved government institution,” tinukoy nito ang non-commissioned survey na isinagawa ng Publicus Asia.

“Surely [the AFP] did not earn this by abusing, torturing, and killing people,” ayon sa Kalihim.

Tinutulan naman ni Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, public information officer ng Philippine National Police (PNP), ang Internal Affairs Service (IAS) ng PNP na “na-singled out” bilang “largely ineffective” sa pag-check sa mga pang-aabuso ng kapulisan.

Aniya pa, ang IAS “has taken an aggressive stance in handling and investigating police personnel who were meted with administrative charges.”

Sinabi pa ni Alba na inirekomenda ng IAS ang sanctions o kaparusahan sa mahigit na 14,000 tiwaling police officers at 5,600 mula sa mga ito ay sinibak sa serbisyo.

“It will be unfair for the PNP to be regarded as an organization that tolerates impunity and human rights abuses,” aniya pa rin. (Daris Jose)
