JEFF Goldblum recently explained the Grandmaster’s role in the upcoming MCU sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder.
The highly-anticipated film finds the titular character picking up the pieces of his life shortly after the events of Avengers: Endgame. With Thanos defeated and Asgard destroyed, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) travels with the Guardians of the Galaxy to find a new purpose in his life. With Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) threatening gods within the universe, Thor must team up with King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), his friend Korg (Taika Waititi), and his former love interest Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as the Mighty Thor to defeat the new villain.
In attempt to stop his older sister Hela from entering Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) were thrown from Bifrost and land on a hostile garbage planet known as Sakaar. There he encounters its ruler, an eccentric colorful man known as the Grandmaster (Goldblum). In their attempt to escape the planet, Thor and Loki inadvertently cause an uprising against its ruler. The film’s post-credits scene shows the Grandmaster confronted by his former subjects, implying that he will soon be killed. However, it seems with Goldblum’s admission that the playful tyrant may have survived the insurrection.
In his recent interview with Esquire, Goldblum explained his role in the upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder. When asked if his character of the Grandmaster will make an appearance in the new MCU movie, the actor humorously responded that he will be in the film, but will not be seen or heard, but can only be “sensed.”
The actor’s coy response leaves much to be desired as he barely confirms his involvement in the upcoming movie. Many have speculated that Goldblum may return to the franchise in some way, due to the fact that he was seen in Australia last year with Jurassic World Dominion co-star Sam Neill who was reportedly filming scenes for his cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder at the time. Although Goldblum has said that he is in the new film, his explanation does not offer any concrete details as to what his role entails.
If Goldblum returns to the Thor franchise, he will most likely appear in a minor cameo appearance. As director Waititi previously explained that Thor will be going through a mid-life crisis at the beginning of the film. After he separates from the Guardians, he will depart on a journey in search for a new direction in his life. That quest might lead Thor back to Sakaar where he may find the Grandmaster back on the throne, or now working as a slave, perhaps as a gladiator in the planet’s famed arena. Audiences can only speculate if the Grandmaster will return until Thor: Love and Thunder premieres later this summer. (source: screenrant.com)
