IN the new trailer for the upcoming action thriller, Prisoners of the Ghostland, Nicolas Cage wears a leather samurai outfit and appears to survive a nuclear explosion.
Co-starring Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde), Nick Cassavetes (Face/Off), and Bill Moseley (Halloween 2007), the film follows a notorious criminal (Cage) who is tasked with tracking down and rescuing Bernice (Boutella), the abducted daughter of a wealthy warlord. Prisoners of the Ghostland is directed by Sion Sono and marks the second time Cage and Cassavetes have appeared in a film together since 1997’s Face/Off.
Recently, RLJE Films released the first trailer for Prisoners of the Ghostland, teasing audiences with a glimpse into the crazy, violent, and hilarious Western-inspired world of Samurai the film takes place in. After Cage is tasked with tracking down Bernice, he’s strapped into a leather suit fitted with strategically-placed bombs, ensuring a gruesome death if he should fail to recover her in the five days allotted to him. Upon entering the ominous “Ghostland,” it seems Cage will have to contend with cult-like groups of outlaws and even the supernatural in order to complete his mission and find redemption.

Cage has had something of a comeback over the last few years, continuously appearing in strange, auteur-driven films that are ripe for a cult following, including films like Mandy, Color Out Of Space, and, most recently, the critically-acclaimed Pig.
Prisoners of the Ghostland appears as if it will be no exception and is, in Cage’s own words, “The wildest movie [he’s] ever made.” Cage’s latest offering seems poised to deliver more of the craziness his fans expect and appears as if it might also feature creative action, unique world-building, and a compelling cast of supporting characters.
Prisoners of the Ghostland releases in theaters and on-demand September 17th.
