Passing mark ng US Homeland Security, nasungkit ng NAIA

NABIGYAN ng passing mark ang Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) ng United States Department Homeland Security (DHS) matapos ang mga nakaraang pagbagsak sa mga security deficiencies ng premier airport ng bansa.

Sa isang pahayag ng Department of Transportation (DOTr), sinabi nitong ang mga dumating na inspectors mula sa Transportation Security Administration (TSA), isang ahensiya ng DHS, ay satisfied sa mga improvement na ginawa sa security measures at technologies na nilagay sa NAIA matapos ang ginawang security audit.

“The TSA commended security improvements made by the government to guarantee the safety of air travelers from the Philippines to the United States and vice versa,” wika ng DOTr.

Ang mga TSA inspectors ay namangha sa mga high-technology security at screening equipment na ginagamit ngayon sa NAIA terminals tulad ng dual view x-raymachines na may automatic tray return system.

Isang epektibong kagamitan ang dual view x-ray machines upang mabawasanang mahabang pila sa security screening checkpoints.

“We appreciate the new technologies and equipment provided. We are gratefulwith the improvements made by the government, specifically in collaboration with the Office of Transport Security,” ayon kay TSA lead inspector Jose Liriano.

Ang TSA ay may authority sa security ng mga traveling public sa US.

Ang mga TSA auditors kasama ang mga national aviation security auditors mula sa OTS ay natapos ang audit ng terminals at US-bound airlines na may operasyon sa NAIA noong nakaraang linggo.

Kasama sa assessment ang areas tulad ng airport at aircraft security, aviation management, landside security, passenger at baggage screening, hold baggagechecks, access control, perimeter security, training ng mga security personnel at ang quality control measures.

Sinabi naman ni DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade na ang security improvements sa NAIA ay dahil sa coordination ng mga ahensiya ng DOTr tulad ng Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) at OTS.

Nagbigay din ng assurance sa publiko si Tugade na ang mga improvement sa NAIA ay magiging tuluy-tuloy.
“Security is a commitment, it is a continuous process. While we are happy with this news, we must remember that the more important thing is that we sustain and improve our efforts to ensure the safety of air passengers,” ayon kay Tugade.

Maalala na noong 2018 ay nagkaroon ng advisory sa mga airlines na may flights sa Philippines na maging alerto ang mga pasahero dahil sa mga kakulangan sa securitymeasures sa NAIA matapos malaman ng DHS na ang airport ay hindi naglalagay at gumagamit ng security measures na naaayon sa standards na ginawa ng International Civil Aviation Organization.
