Setyembre ng bawat taon, deklaradong ‘Bamboo Month’

IDINEKLARA  ng Malakanyang na “Philippine Bamboo Month” ang buwan ng Setyembre kada taon base sa  Proclamation No. 1401 na tinintahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte, araw ng Lunes.

Kinikilala ni Pangulong Duterte ang pangangailangan na itanim sa kamalayan ng mga Filipino ang kahalagahan ng  bamboo plant at produkto nito.

“I, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws, do hereby declare the month of September of every year as Philippine Bamboo Month,” ang nakasaad sa proklamasyon.

Sa nasabing proklamasyon, binigyang direktiba nito ang Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council (PBIDC) na pangunahan at i-promote ang pagdiriwang sa  Philippine Bamboo Month at i-identify ang mga programa, proyekto at aktibidad para sa taunang selebrasyon nito.

“All other agencies and instrumentalities of the national government, including government-owned or -controlled corporations and state universities and colleges are directed and all local government units, relevant non-government organizations and civil society groups, as well as the private sector, encouraged to support the PBIDC,” ang nakasaad pa rin sa proklamasyon.

Sa kabilang dako, ipinalabas naman ang Executive Order No. 879  noong 2010 na lumikha sa PBIDC na naglalayong i- promote ang product development ng bamboo o kawayan at paghusayin pa ang  market access sa bamboo products, sa layuning mapanatili at mapalakas nito ang bamboo industry.

Ang Bamboo o kawayan ay itinuturing ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) bilang isa sa  “right priority industry clusters.”

Ang mga bahagi ng bamboo plant  ay ginagamit hindi lamang para sa “nourishment and construction” ng simpleng imprastraktura kundi maging sa pagpo-produce ng  world-class furniture at handicrafts. (Daris Jose)
