$14-B investments, naisakatuparan mula sa Marcos’ trips- DTI

TINATAYANG 46 proyekto na nagkakahalaga ng $14.2 billion sa foreign investments ang naikatuparan mula sa byahe ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa iba’t ibang bansa sa nakalipas na 16 na buwan.

Tinukoy ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) ang data mula sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), lumalabas na may kabuuang $72.2 billion sa investments sa iba’t ibang stages, bumubuo sa 148 proyekto ang naitala “as of December 2023.”

Sa nasabing inisyatiba, 46 proyekto na nagkakahalaga ng $14.2 billion o 20% ng kabuuang pledges, ang naisakatuparan na, ibig sabihin ay nag-operate na, o nakompleto na ang proseso ng pagpaparehistro ng proyekto sa Investment Promotion Agencies ng DTI, o naikasa na ang implementasyon.

Ang mga investments na ito ay “manufacturing, IT-BPM, renewable energy, infrastructure, transport and logistics, agriculture, at retail sectors.”

“Investment pledges from foreign firms during the presidential visits over the past 16 months are now being actualized substantively and tangibly, boosting the position of the Philippines as a premier investment destination for foreign businesses in Asia,” ayon sa PCO.

“Notably, the presidential visits of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. have been pivotal in generating serious investment interest in the Philippines. The President visited key countries, introducing to specific investor communities his overall vision and policy direction of opening up the country to more foreign investments, including implementing game-changing legislation under his term,”  dagdag na wika ng PCO.

Makikita rin sa data ng DTI na ang manufacturing ang bumubuo sa pinakamalaking share pagdating sa bilang ng mga proyekto, kasama na rito ang 16 proyekto (katumbas ng 35%). Ang sumunod naman ay ang information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) na may 10 proyekto (22%), at renewable energy na may 9 na proyekto (20%).

Samantala, kinilala naman ang Japan bilang “the most significant country’ bilang investment source base sa bilang ng mga proyekto.

Ang Japan ay mayroong 21 proyekto na naisakatuparan na, sumunod ang Estados Unidos na may 13.

Sa kabilang dako, patuloy naman na nagsasagawa ang mga foreign investors ng “pre-implementation at planning activities” sa kani-kanilang mga bansa para sa natitirang 102 proyekto, kabilang na ang $58 billion na investment pledges, ayon sa DTI.

Habang may ilan namang investment projects ang nagpapatuloy ang progreso mula “pangako hanggang sa operasyon”.

Sinabi ng PCO na kailangan ng iba ang pinalawig na implementation period ng hanggang 7 taon para sa offshore wind at pangunahing physical infrastructure projects.

“The investment flows into the country in phases over the implementation period, during which the project transitions into operational status and begins generating revenues,” ayon sa DTI.

Ipinaliwanag pa ng PCO na ang tagal ng implementation period ay depende sa sektor kung saan nabibilang ang proyekto.

“Due to relatively shorter implementation periods, investment commitments from the presidential visits in the … IT-BPM sector and in light manufacturing have mostly become operational,” ayon sa PCO.

“While the FDI (foreign direct investment) values are modest, the early actualization of investment commitments in these sectors contributes to the decrease in the unemployment rate in the Philippines, given that IT-BPM and manufacturing are significant generators of direct employment,” dagdag na wika ng PCO.

Para naman kay DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual, sinabi nito na sa bawat presidential visit ng Pangulo ay nakikinabang ang ahensiya, “springboard for building up a pipeline of investment opportunities and making the Philippines an investment destination of choice”, ayon kay Pascual. (Daris Jose)
