Meet The New MCU Hero: Shang-Chi

MARVEL Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings drops its first trailer and poster just in time for actor Simu Liu’s birthday!

Liu plays the film’s lead character Shang-Chi, a master of martial arts and the latest hero to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Titular star expressed excitement in his recent interview at EW about introducing the new MCU hero Shang-Chi on a global scale, “The most exciting thing about stepping into this character was that his backstory has never been told before.”

The actor added, “We know Peter Parker, who was bitten by a radioactive spider, and he loses his uncle. Shang-Chi’s story is very much unknown to most of the world, so we had a lot of freedom and creative liberty to make it the way that we wanted to.”

Aside from the trailer, the actor also debuted the first teaser poster through social media.

And not only are we celebrating the release of the first teaser trailer but also star Liu’s birthday, too!

The actor shared a first look at the brand new poster for the movie across his social channels as a special birthday gift.

In the film, Shang-Chi will have to face the mysterious Ten Rings organization and its leader, the Mandarin. A popular villain in the comics, the Mandarin was thought to be the big bad in Iron Man 3, but the person Tony Stark came face-to-face with turned out to be a fraud.

In Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, however, the new hero will be facing the real deal.

The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy, and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, and Ronny Chieng.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and set to hit theaters on September 3, 2021.

It is the second MCU film slated for a release this year, following Black Widow‘s May 7 release date. (ROHN ROMULO)
