Hindi kailangan ang license, registration ng e-bikers

INIHAYAG ng Land Transportation Office (LTO) na hindi kailangan ang registration papers ng mga electronic bikes at scooters na may maximum speed ng 25 kilometers kada oras upang tumakbo sa lansangan.
Ayon din sa LTO na hindi rin kailangan ng mga drivers ng smaller category of e-bikes na magkaron ng driver’s license mula sa LTO.
Subalit kahit na ang riders ng e-bikes at scooter ay exempted sa pagkakaron ng licenses at registration, ang mga sasakyan na ito ay limited lamang sa mga barangay roads at bicycle lanes na tinalaga ng mga authorities.
Sinabi rin ni LTO chief Edgar Galvante na ang guidelines ay nasa Department of Transportation na para kanilang repasuhin at pag-aralan.
“The one submitted to us is an initial draft that is yet to be reviewed by the DOTr Road Sector, Legal Affairs, and the Office of the Secretary,” wika ng DOTr.
Dati pa ay sinabi ni Galvante na may administrative order na binubuo na para sa guidelines ng e-scooter at e-bike at hinihintay na lang approval ng DOTr.
“The regulation of e-scooters and e-bikes would be based on the category depending on weight and specifications and aimed at pro- tecting the vulnerable sector,” sabi ni Galvante.
Samantala, sinabi naman ni Department of Transportation (DOTr) Arthur Tugade na hindi siya inclined na pangasiwaan ang e-scooter habang ang bansa ay nasa ilalim pa ng pandemic.
Ayon kay Galvante na ang LTO at DOTr ay hinihikayat ang publiko na gumamit ng ibang alternative modes ng transportation ngayon panahon ng pandemic at kahit na sa normal na panahon.
“These alternatives will help save the environment by lessening gas emission from traditional modes of transportation,” wika ni Tugade. (LASACMAR)
