WARNER Bros. is set to introduce a brand new version of the iconic DC hero in the upcoming film The Batman directed by Matt Reeves.
So, the DC fans shouldn’t expect Robert Pattinson’s version of the Caped Crusader to be a straight-up hero.
Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne/Batman will be joined by Zoë Kravitz‘s Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
The Batman is set for a March 4, 2022 release following a series of delays and there’s still a chance that it is pushed back even further, given the new wave of the coronavirus pandemic because of the Omicron variant.
But the marketing for the blockbuster is already ramping up with a string of teasers and tie-in The Batman merchandise. These have given fans an indication of what can be expected from Reeves’ dark take on Batman’s early years.
It has also been reported that The Batman has been rated PG-13 for violence and disturbing content, further driving up the hype for the blockbuster.
To make things even more interesting, Pattinson recently opened up about taking on the role of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego in The Batman.
In his interview with The Daily Record, the actor discusses his preparation for tackling one of the most famous superheroes of all time, and teased what his interpretation will look like.
Pattinson explained that, “I needed to know about as much of the history of the character as possible to see what hadn’t really been done … People see Batman as this straight-up heroic character but in our story it really questions what the nature of a hero is and it gives a lot of different angles to it.”
In The Batman, Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne has only been the Bat of Gotham for two years. Being fairly new in the role, he easily gets frustrated not seeing the progress he envisioned for the city since taking on his vigilante persona.
Add to that the terror from The Riddler’s antics, and it’s safe to say that things aren’t exactly going well for the burgeoning hero. Based on the teases from those who are involved in the movie, The Batman could also see Bruce learning that his family has ties with the rampant corruption in Gotham City, resulting in the metropolis’ run-down state hinted at in previous trailers.
Given Pattinson’s comments, it will be interesting to see if this also means that this Batman is opening to killing. Batman’s murderous side became a massive conversation topic when Ben Affleck‘s version of the character was seen explicitly killing bad guys in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
With The Batman expected to release in just a few weeks, audiences are about to find out whether Pattinson’s Batman is more deadly that expected. (source: screenrant.com)
