Bong Joon-ho, Confirms Two Follow-up Films for ‘Parasite’

HERE’S an update on what’s next for the director of Parasite.

Director Bong Joon-ho has confirmed that he’s currently working on two follow-up films for his Academy Award-winning movie Parasite.

Through The Director’s Cut podcast, the South Korean director shared that one of the two scripts is already finished. He also confirmed that one of the scripts will be written in English, while the other one will be written in Korean.                                    According to Bong Joon-ho, “It feels like I’m splitting my brain in half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week.”

He added that the Korean film will be set in Seoul, with “unique elements of horror and action.” But he also noted that it’s difficult to define the genre of his films. Those who have seen the genre-bending Parasite would probably agree.

Meanwhile, the director said that the English script is based on a real event that took place in 2016, and that half of it will take place in the UK, while the other half will take place in the US.

Aside from these two upcoming films, Parasite is also getting a limited series from HBO which will also be helmed by Bong Joon-ho, with Adam McKay.

Last year, Parasite made history at the Oscars when it became the first South Korean film and the first foreign-language film to win the top prize, Best Picture. It also bagged the awards for the best director, best original screenplay, and best international feature film.

The film follows the Kim family who lives in a sub-basement apartment in Seoul. When their son gets hired to tutor for the daughter of the rich Park family, the Kims plot deceptive schemes to bring every family member into the rich household.

It stars Song Kang Ho, Choi Woo Sik, Park So Dam, Cho Yeo Jeong, and more. (ROHN ROMULO)
