COVID-19 pandemic positibo ang epekto para kay Obiena

Kung negatibo ang pagtanggap ng mga tao sa coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic ay may ‘positibo’ naman itong epekto para kay Olympic Games-bound Ernest John Obiena.
Sa isang episode ng “For The Love of the Game” ay sinabi ni Obiena na binago ng COVID-19 ang kanyang katauhan at kaisipan.
“I learned a lot. I grew a lot as an athlete this year and as a person. It’s like you learned to appreciate the small things and kind a take it step by step,” wika ng 25-anyos na pole vaulter.
“I think that’s one of the good things that the pandemic brought to each one of us is to actually appreciate the small things that we normally wouldn’t even care,” dagdag nito.
Nagbalik na sa kanyang ensayo si Obiena sa kanyang training camp sa Formia, Italy sa ilalim ni Ukranian coach Vitaly Petrov matapos ang one-month break noong Oktubre.
Hindi pa nakakauwi ng bansa si Obiena matapos angkinin ang gold medal sa 30th Southeast Asian Games noong Disyembre.
Sa anim niyang podium finishes sa walong sinalihang torneo ngayong taon ay kumolekta ang 6-foot-2 Pinoy pride ng isang ginto, dalawang pilak at tatlong tansong medalya.
Ang nasabing gold medal ni Obiena ay sa 59th Ostrava Golden Spike competition sa Czech Republic kung saan naglista siya ng 5.74 metro.
