DepEd, hinikayat ang student-athletes na mag- apply para sa NAS scholarship

HINIKAYAT ni Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones ang mga kabataan mula sa iba’t ibang sektor na mag-apply para sa scholarship sa National Academy of Sports (NAS) para ma-improve o maging mahusay pang lalo ang kanilang academic at sports skills.
“I am urging all the student-athletes from all sectors of the society, including indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups, to apply for the scholarship to improve their craft,” ayon kay Briones.
Opisyal nang tumatanggap ng aplikasyon ang NAS para sa Annual Search for Competent, Exceptional, Notable, and Talented Student-Athlete Scholars (NASCENT SAS) para sa School Year (SY) 2022-2023.
Isang attached agency ng DepEd, ang NAS ay may mandato na magpatupad ng “quality and enhanced” secondary education program, integrated na may special curriculum on sports na nakasaad sa RA No. 11470.
Sa pamamagitan ng scholarship, naghahanap ang NAS ng academically competent at athletically talented natural-born Filipino youth na karapat-dapat sa scholarship.
“NAS would like to produce world-class athletes that can compete and bring home medals from SEA Games, Asian Games, Olympics, and other sporting events like our very own Hidilyn Diaz,” dagdag na pahayag ng Kalihim.
Sa ngayon, sinabi ng DepEd na ang NAS ay naghahanap para sa incoming Grade 7 at 8 learners na natural-born Filipino citizens.
“Applicants must have a general weighted average of at least 80 percent and should not be older than 14 years old (for incoming Grade 7) and not older than 15 years old (for incoming Grade 8) at the start of the school year,” ayon sa DepEd.
Ayon pa rin sa DepEd, ang aspiring student-athletes sa ilalim ng NAS focus sports na kinabibilangan ng aquatics, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, judo, table tennis, taekwondo, at weightlifting, ay hinihikayat na magsumite ng kanilang aplikasyon.
Bilang bahagi ng scholarship program, sinabi ng DepEd na ang student-athlete ay makatatanggap ng insentibo gaya ng libreng tuition; libreng board, and lodging sa NAS Dormitory sa NAS Campus, New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac; probisyon ng quality secondary education; at access para sa specialized sports training sa world-class facilities.
Ayon pa rin sa DepEd, ang mga scholars ay magkakaroon ng pagkakataon o tsansa na maging kinatawan ng bansa at NAS sa international competitions at maging sa exchange programs na may “monthly stipend and scholarship grant” para sa anim na taon “subject to the student-athlete’s sports and academic performance.”
Ang deadline para sa pagsusumite ng aplikasyon ay sa Abril 12, 2022.
Para sa SY 2021-2022, ang NAS ay mayroong 64 enrolled student-athletes. (Daris Jose)
