DILG, ipinagtanggol ang PNP, kinastigo ang mga kritiko sa pag-aresto kay Dr. Naty Castro

GINAGAWA lang ng mga police officers na umaresto sa health worker na si Dr. Natividad Castro ang kanilang trabaho gaya ng ginagawang imbestigasyon ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) sa posibleng paglabag sa police procedure.
Sa kalatas, tinukoy ni DILG Secretary Eduardo Año na ginagawa lamang ng mga Philippine National Police (PNP) officers ang kanilang gampanin nang maghain ang mga ito ng warrant of arrest laban kay Castro, araw ng Biyernes sa San Juan City.
“The PNP was just doing their jobs. Why gang up on them? This was not a warrantless arrest. The RTC issued a warrant and it’s their duty to serve it,” ayon sa Kalihim.
“The basis of Castro’s arrest by the PNP is a judicially issued warrant based on the criminal charges against her,” dagdag na pahayag nito.
Sinabi pa ni Año na si Judge Fernando Fudalan of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 7 ng Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur ang nagpalabas ng warrant.
Inakusahan ng PNP Regional Office 13 si Castro na miyembro ng Communist Party of the Philippines Central Committee at pinuno ng national health bureau nito sa Butuan City.
Sinabi ng PNP na si Castro ay “sangkot sa felonious kidnapping ng isang miyembro ng Civilian Active Auxiliary, ikinulong ang biktima sa hindi matukoy na lokasyon, at pinagbantaan pa noong Disyembre 29, 2018, sa Barangay Kolambungan, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur.”
Sa kabilang dako, niresbakan naman ni Año ang grupong Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) at ang National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) makaraang magpahayag ng pangamba ang mga grupong ito sa pag-aresto kay Castro .
“FLAG, the NUPL and other lawyers of Castro had every opportunity to quash the charges against her at the level of the City Prosecutor during the preliminary investigation and even with the court,” ayon sa Kalihim.
Para sa kanya, ang mga grupong ito ay gumamit ng legal remedies para umapela sa pag-aresyo kay Castro “instead of maligning the PNP, the judicial system and making a media circus out of this issue.”
Welcome naman kay Año ang ginagawang imbestigasyon ng CHR subalit igiit na “the zeal of the CHR to prejudge the PNP.” (Daris Jose)
