Ex-PAL president tinalaga sa DOTr bilang bagong kalihim

TINALAGA ni incoming president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. si dating Philippine Airlines president Jaime Bautista bilang kalihim ng Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Sa isang isang press statement na binigay ni press secretary-designate Trixie Cruz-Angeles, si Bautista ay isang beteranong airlines executive na may 25 na taon experience sa ating flag carrier na PAL kung saan siya ay naging president nito ng 13 taon.

Isa siyang certified public accountant na tumaas ang posisyon mula sa baba ng Lucio Tan-owned PAL. Siya ay naging vice-president sa finance mula 1993 hanggang 1994, chief finance officer mula 1994 hanggang 1999, executive vice-president mula 1999 hanggang 2004 at president mula 2004 hanggang 2012 at 2014 hanggang siya ay mag retiro noong 2019. Nagtapos siya sa San Juan de Letran na isang Magna Cum Laude noong 1977.

“I want to transform the Philippine transport industry to global standards. It will take steps. How do we get there? That is what we will talk about in the coming days,” wika ni Bautista.

Mainit naman tinanggap ng Air Carriers Association of the Philippines (ACAP) ang pagtalaga kay Bautista sa DOTr.

Ayon sa ACAP ay ang magiging pamumuno ni Bautista sa DOTr ay makakatulong sa industriya ng aviation na sa ngayon ay nagsisikap upang bumangon para maging isang successful na sektor pagkatapos na dumaan sa pandemya.

Sinabi rin ng grupo na si Bautista ay madaming management experiences, may leadership at kaalaman sa industriya ng aviation. Alam niya ang pasikot-sikot sa  operasyon ng sektor ng aviation kasama na ang technical, human resource at infrastructure requirements ng nito.

Kasama rin naitalaga si Cheloy Garafil sa Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) bilang isang chairman. Isang abogado at dating journalist si Garafil na siya ngayon service director ng House of Representatives’ committee on rules. Nagtrabaho din siya bilang isang prosecutor sa Department of Justice (DOJ) at isang state solicitor sa Office of the Solicitor General.

Dati rin siya connected sa mga media organizations tulad ng Philippine Daily Globe, Central News Agency, Associated Press at Malaya.

Mayron din siyang Master’s Degree sa National Security Administration ng National Defense College at isang Philippine Air Force reservist na may rank na lieutenant-colonel.

Samantala, si dating Light Rail Transit Authority deputy administrator Cesar Chavez naman ang tinalaga bilang isang undersecretary sa rail sektor.

“He was appointed by President Duterte to the same post in 2017, during which the DOTr was able to secure the National Economic and Development Authority board’s approval for the Metro Manila subway, PNR Manila to Calamba, PNR Manila to Bicol, and the Tagum-Davao-Digos Mindanao rail projects,” wika ni Angeles.

Sinabi naman ni president-elect Ferdinand Marcos na siya rin ang nakatulong para sa “overseeing the interconnection of the LRT Line 1 in Monumento to MRT 3 in North Edsa, ensuring seamless travel for passengers.”

Sa Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) naman ay naitalaga si Christopher Pastrana bilang general manager. Si Pastrana ay isang businessman na may experience sa iba’t-ibang aspeto ng aviation, logistics, at public maritime transport.

Nagtapos si Pastrana ng Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business mula sa University of the Philippines sa Los Banos, Laguna. Sa ngayon, si Pastrana ay president at chief executive office ng CAPP Industries Inc., na isang supply at logistics conglomerate.  LASACMAR
