Nope Cast Reveals If They Believe in Aliens in Real Life

THE cast of Jordan Peele’s Nope has revealed if they believe in aliens in real life.

The thrilling alien horror Nope released in theaters on July 22, finally bringing answers to the vague trailers and plot details of Peele’s mysterious movie. Nope is Peele’s third outing as director following the success of Get Out in 2017 and Us in 2019.

Peele’s Nope follows Daniel Kaluuya’s Otis “OJ” Haywood Jr. and Keke Palmer’s Emerald “Em” Haywood as they investigate disturbing circumstances on the Haywood Hollywood horse ranch, which was left to them after their father passed away from mysterious debris falling from the sky. With the help of Brandon Perea’s Angel, a tech salesman, and information from Steven Yeun’s Ricky “Jupe” Park, the Haywoods confront what has been terrorizing their area and aim to get proof of the being and become famous in the process.

Critics have largely praised Nope for its ambitious scope and storytelling and it is Peele’s third film to hit number one at the box office and the first original film to do so since his last movie Us.

In an interview with CinePop, Kaluuya, Palmer, and Yeun all admit to being believers in aliens. While Kaluuya believes humanity hasn’t seen aliens yet, Palmer says they may not look how humans expect, which is also something Nope explores. Yeun expresses great excitement to see any kind of proof of extraterrestrials whether it be a spaceship, lights in the air, or an alien itself.

The cast also concurred they wouldn’t put it past marketing to be involved when asked about the recent UFO sightings in Tijuana and San Diego, with Yeun expressing that humanity could use some help from aliens. Read the cast’s full comments below.

While the cast seems to be in agreement there is other life out there, Perea seems a little more skeptical but admits images like the Tijuana and San Diego sightings force him to think about what could be out in the universe. Getting people to think more about what’s lurking in the sky seems to be a goal of Peele’s with Nope, with the director citing King Kong and Jurassic Park as inspiration for the theme of humanity’s addiction to spectacle. Peele also manages to bottle the feeling of vertigo and a presence he describes felt when focusing on a cloud that sits alone too low to the ground, with Nope using a low unmoving cloud to create an ominous scene for the characters.

It is fun to see the cast excited about possible real-life aliens, with Yeun especially keen on wanting to see proof for himself. Palmer makes an interesting point and connection to Nope stating that aliens may not look like what audiences expect and could have plans of their own, pointing to the beautiful science fiction film Contact as an example. Both the cast’s enthusiasm and the sense of mystery pushed by Nope reflect Peele’s goal of getting audiences to look up and wonder what else could be possible in the universe while also delivering a gut-wrenching thriller.
