PAG-ALIS NG MGA DAYUHAN SA BANSA, MAGPAPATULOY HANGGANG KATAPUSAN NG TAON

INAASAHAN na magpapatuloy hanggang sa katapusan ng taon 2020 ang pag-alis ng malaking bilang ng mga dayuhan sa bansa, ayon sa Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Ayon kay BI Commissioner Jaime Morente na mula January hanggang September 2020, may 1.5 million na nga dayuhan ang dumating sa Pilipinas bago pa man ipatupad ang travel restrictions habang halos 2 milyon na mga dayuhan ang umalis ng bansa sa kahalintulad na panahon.

Ang dahilan ayon kay Morente ay dahil sa epekto ng Covid-19 pandemic na nagresulta sa pagpapatupad ng travel restrictions sa buong mundo.

“Similar to our Overseas Filipino Workers who wished to come home to their families during the pandemic, a lot of foreign nationals left as well,” ayon kay Morente.  “A lot of businesses closed, which also affected the foreign community in the Philippines,” dagdag pa nito.

Sa listahan ng mga dayuhang umalis ay nanguna ang Koreans na may 400,000, Americans at Chinese (300,000); at Japanese na 166,000.

Ayon sa datos ng BI, halos 500,000 na mga Chinese national ay narito sa bansa.

Ayon pa sa datos, mula 2013 hanggang 2019, may kabuuang 6.4 million na Chinese nationals ang dumating sa bansa habang mahigit 6.1 million naman ang umalis sa kahalintulad na panahon.

“In 2020, due to the pandemic, for the first time, we’ve seen more departures of foreign nationals than arrivals,” ayon Morente.

Sinabi ni Morente na 188,517 na mga Chinese nationals ang dumating sa bansa mula January hanggang September 2020 habang umabot sa 292,669 na mga Chinese nationals ang umalis naman ng bansa sa kaparehong panahon.

“If we look at the difference of the figures from 2013 to 2020, only 475,129 Chinese nationals from this period are left in the country,” ayon Morente.  Pero paliwanag nito na ang nasabing bilang ay hindi sumasalamin sa mga dumating noong 2013.

Dahil dito, ayon kay Morente na malaking epekto ito sa turismo sa bansa.

“The government had made significant strides in improving tourism,” ayon kay Morente.  “However, this pandemic proved to counter all previous efforts,” dagdag pa niya.

“You can see the effect,” paliwanag ni Morente.  “Areas that were once booming with foreign tourists, workers, or students are now empty.  We’re hoping that little by little, the confidence of foreign nationals to visit our country, invest here, work here, or study here be renewed as we work to fight this pandemic,” ayon pa sa BI chief.

Sa kasalukuyan ay hindi oa pinapayagan ang mga turista sa bansa.  “We hope that Covid-19 be resolved soon, so we may revive the tourism economy which was badly hit by this pandemic,” pagwawakas ni Morente. (GENE ADSUARA)
