Panukala sa Kamara nais ihimlay mga ‘sports heroes’ sa Libingan ng mga Bayani

POSIBLENG  Libingan ng mga Bayani ang maging huling hantungan ng mga atletang nagbibigay ng karangalan sa Pilipinas.

Ito’y matapos ihain ng isang kinatawan sa Kamara ang panukalang magbibigay pugay sa mga nabanggit.

Huwebes nang ihain ni Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers ang House Bill 3716, sa dahilang nagbibigay sila nang matinding inspirasyon sa publiko na magkamit ng mga kahalintulad na tagumpay sa buhay.

“Sports stars become heroes when they are admired for their  athletic accomplishments. As a society, we yearn to feel a connection to them, bask in their success, and pattern our lives after them,” sabi ni Barbers habang kino-quote si Joseph Hastings.

“Filipino sports icons have this amazing, unique way of making a positive impact in our society. They are our source of inspiration and strength in direst situations and serve as good role models, especially to the youth. With their incredible achievements that brought honor to our country, they deserve a spot at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.”

Ang mga “sports heroes,” ayon sa HB 3716, bilang mga distinguished Filipino athletes na merong “character and integrity” na nakapagrepresenta at nagdala ng dangal sa Pilipinas sa:

pagkapanalo ng gintong medalya sa Southeast Asian Games

hindi bababa sa silver medal sa anumang Asian Games o Asian Cup

hindi bababa sa bronze medal sa Olympic o World Games

kampeon mula sa anumang professional sports competition

Sa ngayon kasi, pwede lang ilibing ang mga sumusunod sa naturang lugar:

medal of valor awardees

presidente o mga commanders-in-chief ng Armed Forces of the Philippines

mga bise presidente

mga kalihim ng Department of National Defense

chief of staff ng AFP

mga general o flag officers

mga aktibo at retiradong militar

mga mahistrado ng Korte Suprema (chief o associate justice)

mga mahistrado ng Court of Appeals

mga senador at senate president

dating AFP members na suli sa Philippine National Police at Philippine Coast Guard

government dignitaries, statesmen, national artists atbp. namatay na inaprubahan ng commander-in-chief, Konggreso o Secretary of National Defense

dating presidente, bise presidente, secretaries ng National Defense, biyuda/biyudo ng mga dating presidente at chiefs of staff

national artists at national scientists

“I hope that it is not too late to honor our sports heroes like Lydia de Vega. This measure is but a token of gratitude that we all enormously owe her and our other unsung sports heroes,” panapos ni Barbers.
