PBBM, itinalaga si Diokno bilang miyembro ng Monetary Board

MAGBABALIK si dating Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) bilang miyembro ng Monetary Board.

Pinalitan ni dating Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto si Diokno bilang Kalihim ng Department of Finance (DoF).

Nauna rito, pinasalamatan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. si Diokno para sa “excellent performance” nito sa departamento.

“We cannot finish this event here this afternoon without a very heartfelt and warm wishes and gratitude to Secretary Ben Diokno for the services that he has given to the Department of Finance in his time as Department of Finance [Secretary],” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos.

Inalala naman ni Pangulong Marcos ang panahon na hiniling niya kay Diokno, noon ay dating gobernador ng BSP na mag-take over sa DOF upang sumulong ang ekonomiya at ilagay ang lahat ng polisiya sa “right track” sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic.

“Being one of our country’s pillars of economic management, we shall continue to rely on your expertise and exuberance as a member now of the Monetary Board [of the BSP]. Maraming, maraming salamat from a grateful nation, Secretary Ben Diokno,” ayon sa Punong Ehekutibo.

Nauna nang hiniling ng Pangulo kay Diokno na sumama sa Maharlika Investment Fund at sa management nito, subalit nakiusap si Diokno, sabay sabing “not what he feels is a specialty of his.”

Inalok din sa kanya na umanib sa Monetary Board.

“Once again, I cannot thank Secretary Ben Diokno enough for setting the economy onto the right path. He has guided us, he has put the essentials into place, he has made the structural changes that we need,” ayon pa rin sa Chief Executive.

“And therefore, he has – these economic figures, the results that we are getting a lot of that can certainly be attributable to the work that he did as Department of Finance Secretary,” dagdag na wika nito.

Samantala, sumama si Diokno sa BSP Monetary Board, pinalitan nito si Peter Favilla kung saan nagtapos ang termino noong Hulyo 2, 2023.

Bago pa ang kanyang posisyon sa BSP, nagslbi si Diokno bilang BSP Governor mula Marso 5, 2019 hanggang Hunyo 30, 2022 at dating Kalihim ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM). (Daris Jose)
