PH, US defense chiefs tinalakay ang pagprotekta sa karapatan para “fly, sail, and operate safely and responsibly”sa ilalim ng int’l law

TINALAKAY ng defense heads ng Pilipinas at Estados Unidos ang protektahan ang karapatan ng lahat ng bansa para “fly, sail, and operate safely and responsibly” sa ilalim ng international law.

Sa isang readout na ipinalabas araw ng Huwebes (Manila time), sinabi ni Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder na nagkaroon ng ‘phone call’ sina US Defense Secretary Defense Lloyd J. Austin III at Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

“Both officials discussed the importance of preserving the rights of all nations to fly, sail, and operate — safely and responsibly — wherever international law allows. Secretary Austin expressed ironclad U.S. support for the Philippines,” ang nakasaad sa readout.

“Both officials also welcomed opportunities for frequent communication as a core part of their commitment to strengthening the U.S.-Philippines alliance in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” dagdag nito.

Kamakailan, dumating sa Pilipinas si United States Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Air Force General Charles Q. Brown Jr. para makapulong sina Teodoro, National Security Advisor Eduardo Año, at ang kanyang counterpart na si Armed Forces Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr.

Pinag-usapan ng mga ito ang “bilateral security assistance, utilization of Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement agreed locations and the importance of maritime domain awareness to counter illegal, coercive, aggressive and deceptive activities.”

Nagpalitan din ang mga ito ng kani- kanilang ebalwasyon o pagsusuri hinggil sa security situation sa rehiyon kabilang na ang marahas na insidente sa Ayungin o Second Thomas Shoal.

Nilibot din ni Brown ang “US rotational access site designated as part of the EDCA.”

Tinintahan noong 2014, pinagkalooban ng EDCA ang US troops ng access na magtalaga sa Philippine military facilities, pinapayagan ang mga ito na magtayo ng mga pasilidad at ipuwesto ang mga kagamitan, aircraft, at vessels.

Samantala, nakatakda namang makapulong ni Brown ang mga pangunahing opisyal sa Indo-Pacific ngayong linggo upang itaguyod ang US investments sa pakikipagtuwang sa buong rehiyon. (Daris Jose)
