Pope Francis sa kanyang New Year message: ‘We want peace’

MULING nagpakita sa publiko si Pope Francis matapos na mapilitan itong lumiban sa New Year services ng Simbahang Katolika dahil sa naranasan nitong chronic sciatic pain.
Kung maaalala, hindi nakadalo ang Santo Papa sa prayer service dahil sa sciatica, na pananakit mula sa ibabang bahagi ng likod hanggang sa ibabang parte ng katawan.
Sinasabing ito ang unang pagkakataon na hindi nakadalo si Pope Francis sa isang major papal event buhat nang mailuklok ito bilang Catholic pontiff noong 2013.
Gayunman, hindi nagpakita ng anumang senyales ng sakit ang Santo Papa sa pangunguna nito sa okasyon.
“Life today is governed by war, by enmity, by many things that are destructive. We want peace. It is a gift,” wika ni Francis.
“The painful events that marked humanity’s journey last year, especially the pandemic, taught us how much it is necessary to take an interest in the problems of others and to share their concerns,” dagdag nito.
Karaniwang ibinibigay ang noon blessing mula sa isang bintana kung saan matatanaw ang St. Peter’s Square, ngunit inilipat ito sa loob para maiwasan ang pagtitipon-tipon ng mga tao at mapigilan ang hawaan ng COVID-19.
Sumentro rin ang okasyon sa mga pahayag ng Santo Papa sa Yemen.
“I express my sorrow and concern for the further escala- tion of violence in Yemen, which is causing numerous in- nocent victims,” ani Francis. “Let us think of the children of Yemen, without education, without medicine, famished.”
