The Australian Supernatural Horror Movie ‘Talk to Me’ in PH Cinemas on July 26, Ahead of U.S. Release

ONE of the most unique aspects of Talk to Me is that the film was directed by the twin brothers, Danny and Michael Philippou, who are actually best known for their YouTube channel, RackaRacka, debuted in 2013.

It quickly rose to popularity through their darkly comedic horror content. The duo won the Australian Academy Award for Best Web Show, and it was during that wave of success that they pivoted into creating their first feature film.

Considering the immediate success of Talk to Me, the brothers are actually in talks to direct a potential upcoming Street Fighter movie from Legendary Pictures.

The Australian horror film makes its international debut in 2023, and there are many thrilling details about the release. Spawned from the minds of directors Danny and Michael, the movie follows a group of teens who experiment with seances using an embalmed hand but soon find that they’ve unleashed an entity of pure evil.

Following in a long line of great possession movies like The Exorcist and The Evil Dead, Talk to Me is a 21st-century take on a classic concept that uses practical effects to get the biggest scares. Though the film started small, its widespread distribution promises to make it an international hit. Talk to Me had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Early reviews for the film have been overwhelmingly positive (via Rotten Tomatoes) and consistent praise has been given to the cast, the direction. Though Talk to Me seemingly came out of nowhere, it has a chance to once again put Australia on the map as a premiere destination for great horror movies.

While Talk to Me has largely only been seen by those in the film festival world, regular moviegoers have had to rely on scarce information being slowly released about the upcoming horror film. The latest update regarding the film came in June 2023 when a second trailer was released showing even more of the movie. The original Talk to Me trailer debuted in April 2023 and revealed the basic outline for the plot and what sort of horrors could be expected.

However, the newest trailer introduces more of the characters and shows off exactly how the movie’s terrifying possession actually works. Talk to Me is slated to debut in the Philippines cinemas on July 26 (distributed locally by 888 International Films), ahead of two days in United States on July 28, 2023.

Though many horror films debut in the fall, Talk to Me has the chance to become a summer blockbuster.

The horror movie features diverse mixes of well-known cast members and fresh faces, and the ensemble in Talk to Me is no exception. While most of the film’s stars are young up-and-comers from Australia, the new horror film does include a recognizable name or two as well. Leading the cast is Sophie Wilde (Eden) as Mia, the teen who first starts dabbling with spirits, and she is joined by Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings) as Sue. Alexandra Jensen (Beat) appears as Jade along with Joe Bird (First Day) as Riley.

Other cast members include Otis Dhanji (Aquaman) as Daniel, Zoe Terakes (Wentworth) as Hayley, Chris Alosio (The Messenger) as Joss, Marcus Johnson (The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee) as Max, and Alexandria Steffensen (How to Please a Woman) as Rhea.

About ‘Talk To Me’:

Conjuring spirits has become the latest local party craze, and looking for a distraction on the anniversary of her mother’s death, teenage Mia (Sophie Wilde) is determined to get a piece of the otherworldly action. When her group of friends gathers for another unruly séance with the mysterious embalmed hand that promises a direct line to the spirits, they’re unprepared for the consequences of bending the rules through prolonged contact. As the boundary between worlds collapses and disturbing supernatural visions increasingly haunt Mia, she rushes to undo the horrific damage before it’s irreversible.

Filmmaking duo (and twin brothers) Danny and Michael Philippou of @RackaRacka YouTube channel fame suspend us in the foreboding and nightmarish realm of their debut feature, making the most of their twisted propensity for the surreal and grotesque. Effortlessly blending the creepiness of a ghost tale with the modern sensibilities of a horror-thriller for the Insta-generation, Talk to Me exposes an uncanny reality where the dead roam eerily close to the living.
