Tom Holland Clarifies What Is Going On For The Future of MCU ‘Spider-Man 4’

WITH Spider-Man: No Way Home completing the MCU’s first Spider-Man trilogy, Tom Holland chats about his future as Peter Parker.

2021 ended on a big note for Marvel Studios, as well as Sony Pictures, thanks to their co-produced Spider-Man threequel.

After the major cliffhanger in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the third installment went all-in as they tackled Peter’s final story in the trilogy. This opened up the Multiverse in a massive way for the MCU as characters from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s respective Spider-Man franchises came into the fold.

Despite being the worst-kept secret in Hollywood, it didn’t stop fans from being excited when Holland shared the screen with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield‘s Spider-Men.

Even though the pandemic has heavily affected box office results for many films, it couldn’t stop Spider-Man: No Way Home, as it has crossed $1.7 billion worldwide. With that kind of success, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Sony and Marvel are developing Spider-Man 4as part of a new trilogy. Both Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige assured the fans that they are already committing to telling Spider-Man’s next story, with Holland’s involvement. Luckily, fans won’t have to relive the stress of another temporary divorce between Sony and Marvel that occurred in 2019.

Despite Feige and Pascal’s previous comments, Holland is now opening up on what is actually going on behind the scenes as far as his Spider-Man future goes.

In a new interview with EW, Holland clarified that there have only been conversations so far about the next Spider-Man movie. Stating that they are only in talking phases, it is becoming clear that no script has been written nor is there any formal commitment just yet. That is especially important to take into account as Holland is, as of now, not under contract anymore.

Holland said: “We’ve had conversations about the potential future of Spider-Man, but at the moment they are conversations. We don’t know what the future looks like.”

Based on Holland’s statement, it’s becoming evident that a new Spider-Man trilogy has barely begun coming to life. Given how game-changing Spider-Man: No Way Home was, Sony and Marvel would need to find an incredibly strong story worthy of following up with the film’s ending.

Since Peter is now on his own in a world where no one knows he’s Spider-Man, the creative should take its time in making his next chapter powerful. Whether that includes another Multiverse story or perhaps introducing Miles Morales, there are many directions they can take with Peter’s character arc.

It’s worth noting that even if they finalize plans for the next Spider-Man film, it may take a few years before it hits theaters. As Marvel Studios get further into Phase 4, there are still a number of previously announced projects that would come before a new Spider-Man trilogy starts. Marvel Studios already has projects like BladeCaptain America 4Shang-Chi 2, and Fantastic Four that are in the works. If anything, Peter may not get his own film until Phase 5, which may not start until 2024. However, it’s fair to assume that many would likely prefer to wait for Holland’s Spider-Man to return if that means they get a solid Spider-Man 4. (source: screenrant.com)
