Fast X: Part 2 seemingly gets a new update from Vin Diesel, with a set photo suggesting that filming on the sequel has now begun. After the Fast X cliffhanger ending in 2023, the long-running Fast & Furious franchise will continue with an additional installment, which might be the last for Diesel and the rest of the Fast Saga crew.
Fast X: Part 2 filming has previously been reported to be getting underway in early 2025, but Mia Toretto actor Jordana Brewster recently revealed to Screen Rant that she doesn’t know what the sequel’s filming timeline is.
Diesel now takes to Instagram to share a new set photo, seemingly from Fast X: Part 2. The photo shows a black Chevy Chevelle, a car that Dom has driven in previous installments, driving between another classic car and a camera vehicle. Diesel’s caption doesn’t explicitly confirm that they’re shooting the next Fast & Furious movie, but he does reference the franchise. Check out Diesel’s post below: “The best thing about filming practical exteriors this morning… is all the beautiful memories of shooting the very first Fast,” Diesel writes in his caption.
In addition to Brewster expressing uncertainty regarding Fast X: Part 2’s filming timeline, Roman actor Tyrese Gibson revealed on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast this summer that he hadn’t yet read a script for the film and that he expects filming to get underway in 2025. A lot could have changed over the last few months, and it’s possible that Gibson’s podcast interview was recorded even earlier in the year, but the updates from Gibson and Brewster could speak to how the upcoming installment will be filmed.
The Fast X cast was massive, and getting all of these actors together is sure to be challenging. It’s possible that 2025 will be the year that Gibson and other franchise regulars start their filming, but Diesel, due to his busy schedule, could be getting some solo Dom filming done before the holidays. This timeline would fit with the Fast X ending, too, as that film’s final moments suggest that Dom and his son, Brian, will be on their own for parts of the next installment. It’s not yet clear, however, who is driving the blue car beside Dom’s Chevy.
From the photo, it doesn’t appear that Diesel is filming a particularly involved vehicular action sequence. The franchise has traditionally had plenty of shots of actors driving cars under tame circumstances as they arrive in new locations, and it makes sense that, if the script isn’t yet done or if actors’ schedules are preventing bigger sequences from being filmed, the production starts with some of these more straightforward scenes that are easier to shoot.
Though the Fast X: Part 2 filming situation remains somewhat unclear, it’s certainly exciting to see Dom back in his Chevy Chevelle. Diesel continues to be a strong source of information regarding the Fast & Furious franchise, and it’s entirely possible that he will be sharing more filming updates and behind-the-scenes photos in the weeks to come.
