WARNER Bros. Drops Full Synopsis of R-Rated ’Mortal Kombat’

WARNER Bros. finally dropped the full synopsis of Mortal Kombat just days after its first-look images were revealed.

The latest movie remake of the Mortal Kombat franchise is coming this April 16 in theaters and on HBO Max. And to pump up the excitement among fans, more details about the film have been revealed. Check out the synopsis below:

In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?”

Days before, Warner Bros. also dropped stills from the film, featuring the iconic characters of the franchise.

The film’s cast includes Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), and Chin Han (Shang Tsung).

The Mortal Kombat franchise was first adapted into film in 1995 and had a sequel two years later. Now that the upcoming film has an R rating, viewers can expect the gore and violent fatalities made famous by its source material.

The film is produced by James Wan and is directed by Simon McQuoid from the screenplay of Greg Russo and Dave Callaham. (ROHN ROMULO)
