2 U-turn slots sa EDSA muling binuksan

Muling binuksan ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang dalawang (2) U-turn slots sa EDSA sa Quezon City matapos na udyokan ng mga lawmakers at ng pamahalaang lungsod ng Quezon City.

Ang nasabing U-turn slots ay ang nasa tapat ng Quezon City Academy at ang malapit sa Darrio Bridge sa Balintawak upang magamit ng mga motorista at dahil sa sunod-sunod na complaints na tinalakay sa nakaraang congressional inquiry ng House committee sa Metro Manila development.

“We opened this up since its holiday season so the volume is really high. But we assure everyone that even if we open this up, we are not giving a favor to the few private vehicles passing through the area,” wika ni MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia.

Ang nasabing U-turn slot sa Quezon Academy ay bukas lamang para sa mga light vehicles samantalang ang nasa Darrio Bridge ay para lamang sa mga emergencies at government vehicles.

Nagalak naman si Mayor Joy Belmonte sa naging desisyon ng MMDA sa muling pagbubukas ng nasabing U-turn slots, na noon pa man ay hiniling na ni Belmonte dahil sa maraming complaints na kanyang natatangap mula sa mga motorista.

Ayon kay Belmonte ang pamahalaang lungsod ng Quezon City sa ilalim ng task force traffic management ay silang mangangasiwa sa stop-and-go scheme sa mga nasabing U-turn slots.

Sila rin ang titingin sa daloy ng traffic sa mga iba pang lugar upang malaman kung maaari pa na humiling sa MMDA na muling buksan ang ibang U-turn slots.

“We made the request in response to the numerous complaints we received from motorists. This is a win-win solution for motorists who have been experiencing heavy traffic along EDSA due to congestion caused by the U-turn closures, and along nearby roads due to the spillover of vehicles. Patients and visitors going to Quezon City General Hospital will benefit the most, and we thank the MMDA for their favorable response,” ayon naman kay Belmonte.

Dagdag pa niya na kahit na binibigyan nila ng suporta ang mga transportation initiatives ng pamahalaan lalo na ang EDSA Bus Carousel project subalit hindi naman nila puwedeng pabayaan ang kapakanan ng mga mamayan na dumadaan sa EDSA.

“The MMDA and the city government will continue to explore short and long-term solutions to the perennial bottlenecks along EDSA. We are willing to help for as long as it will bring comfort to our constituents and ensure that their mobility is not hampered,” saad pa ni Belmonte.

Ayon sa report, ang MMDA ay pumayag na rin dahil sila ay nakatangap ng mga batikos mula sa mga lawmakers dahil sa pagsasara ng U-turn slots sa EDSA sa nakaraang hearing sa Kongreso.  (LASACMAR)
