JAMES Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, is really going out of the conventional superhero film formula in his upcoming DC film, The Suicide Squad.
In his take of the supervillain team, Gunn has rounded up a much bigger roster of characters compared to David Ayer’s 2016 film, Suicide Squad. And within this lineup, he has also added some of the weirdest and lamest characters from the DC comics.
In a new clip from The Suicide Squad puts the spotlight on Nathan Fillion’s The Detachable Kid and we get to see one of the weirdest superpower to be seen in a DC film, or in superhero films in general.

Yes, you probably have the same reaction as Harley Quinn’s. The Detachable Kid has the power of detaching his limbs and telekinetically to use them as weapons. But when executed, the character’s powers aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be.
He’s just one of the unconventional film supervillains we’ll get to see in The Suicide Squad, as Gunn also recruited characters such as the Weasel, whose live-action counterpart does not look threatening at all, and the Polka-Dot Man, whose name turned up when Gunn was looking for “the dumbest DC character of all time”.
But it looks like the director isn’t just adding some of these silly characters for comic relief. Gunn described in an interview, how he intended to use the character of Polka-Dot Man in the film: “We’ve turned that character who’s a sad, pathetic character into a character who’s depressed because people think he’s stupid. He has a very tragic story that you learn about throughout the film – to be able to add depth to characters who are thought of as the silliest is a fun thing for me to do.”
Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney are reprising their roles from the 2016 Suicide Squad film. Also joining them are John Cena, Idris Elba, Sylvester Stallone, Sean Gunn, David Dastmalchian, and Fillion, to name a few.
The Suicide Squad is set for release in US theaters and on HBO Max this August 6. For more information about the film, visit its official website and social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
