PBA, players makikinabang sa free agency rule

PAREHONG makikinabang ang mga PBA teams at mga players sa ipinatutupad na kauna-unahang unrestricted free agency rule sa liga.

Sinabi kahapon ni top sports agent Marvin Espiritu na kailangan lang takpan ng PBA ang ilang butas na maaaring pagmulan ng kontrobersya sa nasabing bagong patakaran.

“I think it’s beneficial both ways overall. We just need to maybe as we go along plug some holes into it kasi this is something new na na-e-experience natin,” ani Espiritu sa ‘Power and Play’ program ni Noli Eala.

“I think kapag medyo may mga controversial moves or mga controversial na outcome from here, I believe the leaders of the PBA we’ll adjust to it as we go along,” dagdag nito.

Sumalang sa free agency market sina Nards Pinto at Rodney Brondial, kasama sa 2014 draft class, kung saan sila lumipat sa Barangay Ginebra at San Miguel, ayon sa pagkakasunod, matapos mapaso ang kontrata sa Meralco at Alaska.

Decongestion sa Bilibid ginagawan na ng paraan – DOJ

KINUMPIRMA ng isang opisyal mula sa Department of Justice (DOJ) na mayroon ng ginagawang hakbang ngayon para tugunan ang problema sa decongestion sa New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Ayon kay DOJ Undersecretary Deo Marco, na bumuo ngayon ang pamunuan ng Bureau of Corrections (BUCOR) ng task force para ilipat ang New Bilibid Prison (NBP) sa ibang lugar para maibsan ang problema sa high congestion rate sa national penitentiary.

Sinabi ni USec Marco na balak ng Bucor na ilipat ang NBP sa mega prison sa Nueva Ecija.

Inihayag din ng opisyal na nakapag submit na ang Bucor ng kanilang proposal at seryosong kinukunsidera ito ng DOJ at masusing pinag-aaralan ito sa ngayon.

Nakikipag-ugnayan na rin ang DOJ sa Malacañang para sa nasabing proposal. (Daris Jose)

Bulacan, gugunitain ang Anibersaryo ng Araw ng Unang Republikang Pilipino

LUNGSOD NG MALOLOS– Pangungunahan ni Gobernador Daniel R. Fernando ang paggunita sa “Ika-123 Anibersaryo ng Araw ng Unang Republikang Pilipino” sa makasaysayang bakuran ng Simbahan ng Barasoain sa lungsod na ito sa Linggo, Enero 23, 2022, alas-8:00 ng umaga.

Bilang panauhing pandangal, pangungunahan ni Fernando ang pagtataas ng watawat at pag-aalay ng bulaklak sa bantayog ni Hen. Emilio Aguinaldo sa isang payak na programa na naka-angkla sa temang “Unang Republikang Pilipino: Sandigan ng Nagbabagong Panahon”.

Sa kabila ng pandemya at kahit sa pamamagitan ng maikling programa, sinabi ni Fernando na mahalaga ang paggunita ng katangi-tanging kaganapan na ito na umukit sa pangalan ng Pilipinas sa kasaysayan ng mundo bilang bansa na kayang pamahalaan ang kanyang sarili.

“Ito ay hindi upang ipakita na memoryado natin ang aklat ng kasaysayan. Ang higit na mahalaga ay ang ipamulat sa ating henerasyon na taglay natin ang katatagan na nag-ugat sa mga aral ng nakaraan, at upang patunayan na marami tayong prinsipyong natutunan mula dito,” anang gobernador.

Sasamahan si Fernando nina Bise Gob. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, Kinatawan ng Pambansang Komisyong Pangkasaysayan ng Pilipinas Rosario V. Sapitan, Punong Lungsod ng Malolos Gilbert T. Gatchalian, Pangalawang Punong Lungsod Noel G. Pineda, at PCol. Rommel J. Ochave ng PNP Bulacan.

Dahil sa mga restriksyong pangkalusugan na dulot ng pandemya, iilang tao lamang ang papayagang pisikal na dumalo sa pagtitipon ngunit ila-livestream ito sa opisyal na Facebook page ni Fernando. (Bishop Jesus “Jemba” M. Basco)

Alert Level 2 sa NCR, malabo pa – DOH

MASYADO pa umanong maaga para sabihin na maari nang ibaba sa Alert Level 2 mula sa Alert Level 3 sa pagpasok ng Pebrero ang National Capital Region (NCR).

Paliwanag ni Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, ang ‘peak’ ng mabilis na pagtaas ng mga kaso ng COVID-19 ay inaasahan sa pagtatapos ng Enero o sa kalagitnaan ng Pebrero.

Inasahan din na ang mga aktibong kaso ng COVID-19 sa Metro Manila ay dodoble pa sa ikalawang linggo ng Pebrero.

“It’s too early to declare or to say to our people that we will shift or de-escalate to Alert Level 2,”ani Vergeire.

Ang NCR at 50 iba pa ay nasa ilalim ng Alert Level 3 hanggang sa katapusan ng Enero.

Nabatid na sinabi ni National Task Force Against COVID-19 special adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa sa Dobol B TV na posible nang ibaba sa Alert Level 2 ang Metro Manila pagsapit ng Pebrero subalit ayon kay Vergeire, bumababa man ang kaso sa Metro Manila, dapat ding isipin na hindi lahat ng sumailalim sa antigen testing ay nagrereport sa DOH.

“So we are closely monitoring… sa ngayon hindi pa masasabi if we can de-escalate by the middle of February dito sa NCR,” dagdag ni Vergeire.

PDu30, nagtalaga ng bagong Court of Appeals justice

ITINALAGA ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte si dating Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Executive Director Jennifer Joy Chua Ong bilang associate justice ng Court of Appeals (CA).

Sa panahon na itinalaga si Justice Ong, siya ay undersecretary ng Office of the Appointments Secretary ng Office of the President.

Si Justice Ong, nanumpa sa kanyang tungkulin, araw ng Biyernes, Enero 21, kay Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo sa session hall ng Korte Suprema, pinalitan nito si retired Associate Justice Ma. Luisa Q. Padilla.

Si Ong, mula sa Davao City, ay nagkaroon ng law degree mula sa Ateneo de Manila University.

Ang appointment papers ni Ong ay ipinadala ni Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea kay Chief Justice Gesmudo. (Daris Jose)

Pinoy top challenger Magsayo at WBC champ Russel Jr nagkaharap sa final presscon bago ang big fight

NAGKAHARAP kanina sa final press conference sina WBC featherweight world champion Gary Russell Jr at ang wala pang talo at top Pinoy challenger na si Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo bago ang big fight sa Linggo.

Ginanap ang harapan ng dalawa sa Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa sa Atlantic City sa New Jersey.

Ipinagmalaki ni Magsayo na siya ang magpapatikim sa ikalawang talo ng kampeon mula sa Amerika.

Si Russeli na 33-anyos na at may record na 31 wins, 18 knockouts at isa pa lamang ang talo, ay pinapaboran ng mga eksperto na mapapanatili pa rin ang korona.

Si Russell ay kinikilalang longest-reigning champion at idedepensa ang korona sa ika-anim na pagkakataon.

Para naman sa 26-anyos na si Magsayo na isang protégé ni Senator Manny Pacquiao, ay merong record na 23 panalo at 16 knockouts sa kanyang career.

Si Magsayo na nagmula sa Tagbilaran, Bohol ay kinilala ang isa sa kanyang laban noong nakaraang taon bilang “knockout of the year” ng Premiere Boxing Champions.

International arriving Filipino passengers na gumaling sa COVID pinapayagan nang makapasok sa Pilipinas

MAAARI nang pumasok sa Pilipinas ang mga Pinoy travellers na galing sa ibang bansa na gumaling na sa COVID subalit nagpopositibo pa din sa required pre-departure RT-PCR test.

Ayon kay Acting Presidential Spokesperson at Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles na kailangang lang na makapag- pakita ng medical certificate ang isang Pinoy international traveller na inisyu ng isang licensed physician.

Kailangan lamang ani Nograles na nakasaad sa medical certificate na nakakumpleto na ang biyahero na gumaling sa COVID-19 traveller ng kanyang mandatory isolation period.

Kailangan din aniyang nakapaloob sa certificate na hindi na infectious o nakakahawa pa ang biyaherong Pinoy at pinapahintulutang makabiyahe.

Sinabi pa ni Nograles na ang positive RT PCR test ay dapat ginawa earlier than 10 days but not later than 30 days.

Samantala, kailangang sumailalim sa facilty based quarantine ang kinuukulang biyaherong Pilipino pagdating dito sa bansa. (Daris Jose)

PDP-Laban faction na suportado ni PDu30, in-adopt si Mayor Sara bilang VP bet

IN-ADOPT ng PDP-Laban faction na suportado ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ang anak ng huli na si Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio bilang vice presidential bet ng partido para sa May elections.

Nauna nang sinalungat ni Pangulong Duterte ang pagtakbo ng kanyang anak bilang bise-presidente, kahit pa nanguna ito sa surveys bilang kanyang posibleng successor.

Tinawag pa ng Chief Executive ang ka- running-mate ng kanyang anak na si dating senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., na isang “weak leader.”

Ang PDP-Laban faction na suportado ni Pangulong Duterte at pinangungunahan ni Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi ay nagpahayag sa kanilang huling kalatas na ang adbokasya ni Mayor Sara at pananaw nito ay “strongly aligned” sa PDP-Laban

Idinagdag pa ng Cusi group na ang liderato ni Mayor Sara at track record “make her most qualified for the position she is now aspiring for and therefore deserves the party’s support.”

Giit pa ng Cusi group na si Mayor Sara ay “help ensure the continuity of the vital programs of the current administration,” kabilang na sa kanilang drug campaign at infrastructure drive.

Isinasapinal pa ng Cusi group ang alliance agreement sa Lakas-CMD, kung saan si Mayro Sara ang chairman.

“We are now on our way to launching our campaign for Mayor Sara, and we assure all PDP-Laban candidates that the party is committed to support all of your candidacy,” anito.

Matatandaang, naiwan ang Cusi wing ng walang standard-bearer matapos na umatras si Senador Christopher Go sa presidential race.

Si Go ay orihinal na dapat ay tatakbo bilang bise-presidente.

“SCREAM” CHARACTERS: MEET THE NEXT GENERATION

JUST as the original 1996 Scream film starred a group of young actors who would go on to achieve enormous success, the makers of the 2022 Scream set out to fill their movie with an equally talented group of up-and-comers destined for stardom.

Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) plays Samantha “Sam” Carpenter, who returns to Woodsboro after a long absence when her younger sister Tara is attacked by Ghostface. Like the character she portrays, Barrera has a younger sister in real life and says she identified with Sam’s protective instinct.

Jenna Ortega (Netflix’s You) plays Tara Carpenter, Sam’s younger sister.

Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games, The Boys) plays Sam’s devoted boyfriend Richie. Quaid describes Richie as a supportive boyfriend to Sam in her hour of need. When viewers first meet Richie, he’s working with Sam in a bowling alley, and when she learns that her sister has been attacked, Richie goes with Sam to Woodsboro to keep her safe.

Every Scream movie needs a resident film expert to explain the intricacies of the genre, and in the 2022 Scream, that character is Mindy, played by Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers). Gillett describes Mindy as an obsessive horror buff who speaks in a rapid-fire delivery and can be snarky and overly honest at times.

From the moment the filmmakers met Mason Gooding (Booksmart), they knew he was the only actor to plays Mindy’s athletic twin brother Chad. Throughout his career, Gooding has played many jocks and student athletes, and what he enjoyed most about playing Chad was being able to satirize those tropes.

Rounding out the cast are new additions Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why) as Wes, Sonia Ammar (Jappeloup) as Liv, Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) as Amber, and Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War) as Vince.

Minnette — whose character’s name is an affectionate tribute to Craven — was such a fan of the Scream series, he personally reached out to the filmmakers and lobbied for the role. Although at first glance Minnette’s character might appear to be the traditional nerdy member of the group, the actor didn’t see him that way at all. “What’s interesting about Wes is that he’s actually kind of cool,” Minnette says. “He’s just a little bit sheltered by his mom. But he’s very well developed in other ways.”
