P1.4 bilyong pondo sa libreng sakay sa EDSA carousel, aprub ng DBM

APRUBADO na ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) ang P1.4 bilyon na Special Allotment Release Order (SRO) at ang Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) na karagdagang pondo para sa pinalawig na “Libreng Sakay” program.

Ayon kay DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, ang paglalaan ng karagdagang pondo ay suporta sa hangad ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na palawigin ang Libreng Sakay ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) at ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) hanggang Disyembre.

Sinabi ni Pangandaman, malaking tulong at ginhawa ang nasabing programa sa bulsa ng mga commuter lalo na sa mga estudyante at mga kabilang sa labor force lalo na sa 50 milyong mananakay mula Setyembre 1 hanggang Disyembre 31.

Ang nasabing karagdagang pondo ay inilabas umano ng DBM noong Agosto 9 at makikinabang dito ang humigit kumulang 628 unit ng mga public utility bus sa kahabaan ng Edsa busway route sa Metro Manila.

Magugunita na nagpasya si Pangulong Marcos na palawigin pa ang mga libreng sakay sa Edsa Bus Carousel kasama ang libreng sakay para sa mga estudyante sa mga linya ng tren sa Metro Manila. (Daris Jose)

HINDI pa rin natatapos ang pagluha ng Megastar na si Sharon Cuneta.

Pagkatapos nga na pumanaw ng malapit niyang kaibigan, ang actress na si Cherie Gil, bukod pa sa mga nagkasunod-sunod din ang malalapit sa kanyang namayapa na sa loob lang ng taong ito, sinabi niyang hindi na raw talaga niya kakayanin kung may panibago na naman.

Sa naging social media post niya, may binanggit siyang kaibigan na na-stroke at nasa ICU ngayon. Nakikiusap siya na pahabain pa ang buhay nito. Gayundin ang 25 year old na pamangkin niya na may cancer.

Ayon kay Sharon, “Family and friends…after Tita Fanny passed away, I was very, very afraid for Cherie and this one other friend who is also sick and who also means the world to me…I just found out that she is in the ICU now because of a “silent stroke.”

“Please, please pray with me for her healing…Lord kahit a few more years na lang po idagdag Niyo please sa buhay niya…Hindi ko na kaya. I am still in pieces over losing Cherie…Hindi ko na kaya. Please pray.

“My faith is wavering and I don’t want it to be…But this is just too much too soon…Wala nang pahinga ang puso ko sa sakit. Please, please pray for me…More than that, please pray for my friend. Thank you so much and please take care of yourselves.”

Sa kasunod na post niya, ang tungkol naman sa kanyang pamangkin. Aniya, For my niece, “Bam,” I ask for all your prayers too…She is only 25…and I do not understand why she has cancer…She is a loving, happy, good girl whom we all love so much…Please, please be our prayer warriors and help us pray for her healing too…Maraming salamat po.”

NAG-POST na si Camille Prats at binigyang-linaw ang mga advertisement na lumalabas sa social media.

Ang larawan kasi niya kasama ang buong pamilya niya ang ginagamit na nag-e-endorse sila ng produkto tulad ng snacks at cereal.

Dahil marami na raw siyang natatanggap na messages tungkol dito, nag-post na si Camille sa kanyang Intagram account para linawin na ginagamit lang sila at posibleng scam ang mga ads na ‘to.

Ayon kay Camille, “Have been getting a lot of messages about this photo of our family endorsing some snacks and cereals. Guys, THIS IS A SCAM.

“We are not endorsing such products. Our collabs with brands are only posted on my official social media platforms and nowhere else. These posts have been reported but they keep creating new ones.”

May kaibigan na rin daw siyang bumili ng produkto pero expired na.

Kaya sabi niya, “Please report if you come across it. Always check if the account is verified before clicking/purchasing. Let’s all be vigilant in posts like these. Madami ng magaling mag-edit at mang-budol.”

Ang totoo, hindi lang si Camille ang biktima ng mga ganitong fake advertisement o fake endorsements. Ilang mga kilalang artista ang talagang nagagamit sa social media ng mga manloloko.

Colegio de San Lorenzo sa QC nag-anunsiyo na ng pagsasara

NAG-ANUNSIYO ng “permanent closure” ang Colegio de San Lorenzo sa Quezon City.

Ito ay dulot ng financial instability bilang resulta ng pandemya ng COVID-19, at mababang enrollment.

Ang kolehiyo, na matatagpuan sa Congressional Avenue, ay nagsabing ganap nitong ibabalik ang mga bayad na binayaran ng mga mag-aaral na nakapag-enroll na para sa school year 2022-2023.

Idinagdag pa nito na tutulong din ito sa mga mag-aaral sa paglipat sa ibang mga paaralan sa pamamagitan ng paglalabas ng kanilang mga rekord at kredensyal.

Ang Colegio de San Lorenzo ay umaabot na rin sa tatlong dekada ang operasyon.

Noong nakaraang buwan, ang Kalayaan College, na matatagpuan din sa Quezon City, ay nag-anunsyo na tatapusin ang operasyon nito pagkatapos ng 22 taon “dahil sa patuloy na pagkalugi sa pananalapi na dulot ng pagbaba ng populasyon ng mga mag-aaral at pinalala ng mga hamon na dulot ng patuloy na pandemya.”

Sa unang bahagi ng taong ito, ang 107-taon na rin na College of the Holy Spirit sa Mendiola Street sa Maynila ay tumigil din sa operasyon dahil sa kahirapan sa pagpapataas ng enrollment na pinalala ng coronavirus pandemic.

Jordan Peele Reinvents the Sci-Fi Horror Genre in ‘Nope’

FILMMAKER Jordan Peele, also known for Get Out and Us that disrupted and redefined the horror genre, reinvents the sci-fi horror genre this time in his latest film Nope.

Shot with large-format and IMAX cameras, Peele, along with the film’s director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema (whose work includes Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and Tenet) teamed up to capture the impossible on camera.
Jordan Peele was eager to expand his cinematic canvas and embraced a new challenge unlike any in his filmmaking career so far and tackle the granddaddy of genre movies: the summer event film. ‘Nope’ is both a spectacle and an examination of how spectacle shapes cultures and ideas of ourselves.

The film puts siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood back together (played by Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) when their legendary father dies and leaves them the ranch estate to manage, known for training horses used in big Hollywood productions.

As they delve deeper in managing the ranch, both notice something unusual – something is in the sky and it is abducting people and animals, and the Haywood siblings are determined to uncover the mystery behind it.

A man of few words but noble actions, OJ is the moral center of the film. Although he works in Hollywood, his world is mostly isolated to the Haywood Ranch in Agua Dulce, and he’s most comfortable doing his work and keeping his head down. When his sister Emerald (Keke Palmer) returns to the ranch, some old tensions and wounds begin to surface.

“What I love about Jordan’s films is that they’re hard to describe,” Kaluuya says. “They have to be experienced. There’s always a real eternal premise and then a real truth in the middle of it. I always lean in when I don’t know what something is,” Kaluuya continues. “But I can only lean in when I know that the director is passionate about it, that they understand it, that they feel it. And that’s always true of Jordan.”

An aspiring actor, singer and stuntwoman, Emerald Haywood, played by Keke Palmer, seems, at first, to be the opposite of her brother OJ in fundamental ways. A defining moment from her childhood forever shaped her relationship with OJ and their father. She has a tight bond with OJ, despite her avoidance of her role in the family business.

For Palmer, the experience of making Nope and working with Peele inspired her to reflect on the state of our culture and ourselves. “For me, the film is about chasing something far outside of yourself and chasing it to such an extent that you don’t realize, until it’s too late, what you already had,” Palmer says.

“Nope was written in 2020 during the pandemic,” Peele says. “It was this crazy time. In a lot of ways, the film is a reflection of all the horrors that happened that year and are still happening.” As for the title, he says, “Nope means a lot of things. I always love to get into the head of my audience. I was inspired by the feeling of existential helplessness in us all, then this idea of spectacle, to bring people out to the theatres and help invigorate their love for the cinematic experience, and at the same time I asked myself the reason why we are obsessed with spectacle.”

A Universal Pictures release, ‘Nope’ is now showing in local cinemas nationwide.

Tinalo siya ni Zhang Shuai ng China sa score na 6-4, 7-5.

Ito ang pangatlong torneo ni Osaka mula ng magtamo ng Achilles injury.

Noong nakaraang linggo kasi ay umatras na ito sa opening round ng Toronto dahil sa pananakit sa likod nito.

Sa panig naman ni Zhang ay ito ang unang singles event na panalo niya noong 2014.

Susunod naman na makakaharap ni Zhang si Ekaterina Alexandrova ng Russia.

Tulfo, ipinag-utos ang paglikha ng IRR para sa solo parents welfare act

IPINAG-UTOS ni Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin Tulfo ang pagbalangkas at pagbuo ng implementing rules and regulations (IRR) para patakbuhin o maging operasyonal ang Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act.

Sinabi ng Kalihim na binuo ang technical working group (TWG) para mag- draft ng IRR ng bagong batas na magbibigay ng P1,000 monthly cash subsidy para sa low-income solo parents, kasama ng karagdagang benepisyo.

Sinabi ni Tulfo na inatasan na niya ang TWG para isa-pinal ang IRR ng batas sa loob ng 90 araw na “prescribed period,” idagdag pa ang “the solo parents will be able to receive the benefits immediately.”

“The new law will be of great help to solo parents, especially that they are raising their children single-handedly,” ayon kay Tulfo.

Maliban sa P1,000 monthly cash assistance para sa low-income solo parents, ang bagong batas ay magbibigay ng 10% discount sa ilang gamot para sa low-income solo parents na may anak na anim na taon pababa, pagbibigay-prayoridad sa low-cost housing, PhilHealth coverage, workforce, apprenticeships, livelihood training, reintegration programs para sa Overseas Filipino Workers, employment information/matching services, educational scholarships, at iba pang anti-poverty initiatives ng gobyerno.

Idagdag pa rito, pinapayagan ng bagong batas ang solo parents na makatanggap ng benepisyo hanggang ang kanilang anak ay umabot ng 22 taong gulang.

Sa ilalim ng batas, “a solo parent with children in school will also be priority in the selection of new beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program if the income is within or below minimum wage.”

Maaari rin aniyang mag-apply ang solo parent para sa livelihood assistance sa ilalim ng Sustainable Livelihood Program of the DSWD.

“With the new law in place, it is expected that more poor families headed by single parents will be assisted to have an improved quality of life,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Matatandaang, ipinalabas ng Malakanyang ang kopya ng Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act na nag-lapsed into law noong nakaraang Hunyo 4. (Daris Jose)

Pangako ng gobyerno, maging “more responsive” sa pangangailangan ng mga Filipino- OPS

MAGIGING “more responsive” na ang gobyerno sa mga pangangailangan ng mga Filipino

Sinabi ni Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles na maliban sa pagpapalaganap ng impormasyon sa polisiya, programa, aktibidades at achievements, iimbitahan din ng OPS ang publiko na magbigay ng feedback bilang bahagi ng pagsisikap na makapanghikayat ng citizen engagement.

“Hindi lang po kami nagdi-disseminate ng impormasyon. Bahagi po ng ating mandato ay makinig,” ayon kay Cruz-Angeles sa isinagawang virtual attendance sa Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media hearing, araw ng Lunes.

Aniya, imo-monitor ng pamahalaan ang social media platforms upang kaagad na makakuha ng tugon mula sa mga mamamayan.

“Mahalaga sa amin ‘yung social media namin dahil nakikita namin dito kung ano yung mga larangan kung saan namin kailangan punuin ng impormasyon na kinakailangan ng taongbayan,” dagdag na pahayag ni Cruz- Angeles.

Tatanggapin din aniya ang feedback via postal system.

Samantala, inaayos naman ng OPS na ilagay ang communication units ng mga ahensiya na nasa ilalim ng Executive Branch sa front line ng impormasyon.

Pinagsisikapan din ng gobyerno na “reduce disinformation, misinformation, and mal-information through streamlining of the information process.”

Ang iba pang plano ay kinabibilangan ng “The National Printing Office and APO Production Unit target to minimize printing costs to attain a long-term goal that will encourage reading and writing books; The Philippine News Agency (PNA) portal will be relaunched as the country’s premier news portal; PTV-4 will become the primary channel for news, public service, and information in the country; IBC-13 is in the works to be the avenue of culture, arts, and educational shows; Philippine Broadcasting Service stations will air more Filipino works in music and literature; at The OPS Digital Media Unit will work with agencies in upgrading their websites to be more responsive, user-friendly, and packed with information.

Sa ilalim ng Executive Order 2, ire-reorganisa ng OPS ang binuwag na Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) at mga attached agencies nito.

Sa kasalukuyan, ang OPS ang nangangasiwa sa operasyon ng state-run TV stations PTV-4 at IBC-13, radio station Radyo Pilipinas, at PNA. (Daris Jose)

2.2 milyong mag-aaral, mabebenepisyuhan ng ‘Libreng Sakay’ ng LRT-2

INIHAYAG ni Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Atty. Hernando T. Cabrera na tinatayang aabot sa 2.2 milyon ang mga mag-aaral na makikinabang sa ‘Libreng Sakay’ program na ipagkakaloob ng Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) sa unang quarter ng School Year 2022-2023.

Ayon kay Cabrera, ang ‘Libreng Sakay’ program ng LRT-2 ay nakatakdang simulan sa Agosto 22 hanggang Nobyembre 5, 2022, alinsunod na rin sa kautusan ni Pang. Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr..

Ani Cabrera, bago pa man ang pandemya, ang tipikal na weekday average ridership ng LRT-2 ay nasa 90,000-100,000 kada araw.

Siniguro rin niya na naghanda na sila ng sistema upang matiyak ang ligtas, maayos at episyenteng pagpapatupad ng programa.

“We have prepared a system to ensure the safe, smooth, and efficient implementation of the program in compliance with the directive of the Department of Transportation,” aniya pa sa isang pahayag.

Pagpapaliban ng Brgy., SK polls sa Disyembre 2023, aprub sa House

INAPRUBAHAN ng House committee on suffrage and electoral reforms ang mosyon na ipagpaliban ang halalan para sa barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan na nakatakdang gawin ngayong Disyembre 5, 2022.

Sa pagdinig ng komite, isinuwestiyon ni Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. na magkaroon muna ng consensus kung ipagpapaliban o hindi ang nalalapit na halalan bago talakayin kung kalian ito itutuloy.

Matapos buksan ang isyu sa motion to postpone ang eleksyon, inihayag naman nina Alliance of Concerned Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro at Kabataan party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel ang kanilang pagkontra sa pagpapaliban ng halalan na naging dahilan para magpatawag ng botohan si committee chair at Mountain Province Rep. Maximo Dalog Jr.

Sa ginanap na nominal voting, 12 miyembro ng komite ang pabor sa panukala na pagpapaliban ng eleksyon habang hindi pabor sina Castro at Manuel.

Makaraang naaprubahan ang mosyon, isinulong naman ni Barzaga na ideklara ang petsa para sa susunod na barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan elections sa unang Lunes ng December 2023 na sinigundahan naman ng ibang mambabatas.

Bago ang panimula ng pagdinig, mahigit sa 30 panukalang batas ang para sa suspension ng eleksyon dala ng iba’t ibang dahilan tulad nang paggamit ng pondo nito para sa COVID-19 response, pag-iwas na magkaroon ng dalawang eleksyon sa loob ng isanga taon at mabigyan ng panahon ang mga guro na makapagpahinga matapos manilbihan bilang miyembro ng election board nitong May 9 elections. PBBM, kinokonsidera na palawigin ang State of Public Health Emergency

KINOKONSIDERA ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na palawigin ang public health emergency na idineklara sa buong bansa noong 2020 dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic.

Sa PinasLakas vaccination event sa SM City sa Lungsod ng Maynila, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na kinokonsidera nito na palawigin ang deklarasyon hanggang katapusan ng taon.

“Yes, we will just discuss it with Usec Vergeire… Malamang we will extend it until the end of the year,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos nang tanungin kung kinokonsodera niyang palawigin ang state of public health emergency sa bansa.

Ang state of public health emergency ay idineklara ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte noong Marso 2020 bunsod ng pandemiya na nakatakdang mapaso sa Setyembre 12.(Daris Jose)
