Stephen King’s The Long Walk Adaptation Zeroes In On First Cast Members

Posted on: June 13th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

THE Long Walk adaptation is confirmed for filming in July 2024, with potential leads Copper Hoffman and David Jonsson.

The premise suggests the need for multiple male actors, this Hoffman and Jonsson possibly portraying the main characters.

Hoffman and Jonsson, though not officially confirmed, have promising resumes for their potential roles in The Long Walk.

The adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk is getting close to confirming its first couple of cast members. Set in a distant future, The Long Walk revolves around a deeply exacting, annual walking contest where about 100 teenage boys walk south through Maine and must not drop below four miles per hour, or they will be fatally shot. After languishing in limbo for years, it was finally confirmed that The Long Walk adaptation will happen and filming will begin in July 2024.

Now, with the filming start date of The Long Walk fast approaching, Deadline reports that Copper Hoffman, who recently starred in Ethan Hawke’s Wildcat, and Rye Lane cast member David Jonsson, are both currently in the mix to lead the forthcoming adaptation’s ensemble cast. The roles these two are likely to play is yet to be revealed.

The Long Walk’s premise suggests that this forthcoming adaptation to the big screen will require many male actors and characters to bring to life King’s distant, dystopian world. While no actors have been officially confirmed, Hoffman and Jonsson could be playing Raymond Garraty and Peter McVriees, the two main characters from King’s book. Both actors have a fairly light resume, but their recent and past works suggest that they could be a perfect fit for their respective roles.
Hoffman made his film debut only a few years ago, starring in Paul Anderson’s Oscar-nominated romcom Licorice Pizza. He played Gary Valentine, a teenage actor who develops a relationship with a 25-year-old photographer’s assistant. Hoffman’s performance led to subsequent roles in movies like the aforementioned Wildcat and the upcoming comedy, Old Guy.
Jonsson started his career on the theater stage and eventually made his film debut in 2018, starring in ITV’s detective drama Endeavor. He appeared briefly as a field agent in another British show titled Deep State before signing on to play Dom in Rye Lane and Augustus Lackey in Industry, arguably his most famous role to date. He can also be seen in the upcoming Alien: Romulus. Jonsson and Hoffman have yet to be officially confirmed for The Long Walk, but if they are, it’ll be interesting to see how they both tackle their respective roles. (Source: deadline.com)

Experience The Best Of British Theater A Second Time Around (part 2)

Posted on: June 12th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

IN Jack Thorne’s The Motive and Cue, audiences are offered a glimpse into the politics of a rehearsal room and the relationship between art and celebrity. Coming to Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati on August 27, Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, will play the title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet under John Gielgud’s exacting direction. But as rehearsals progress, two ages of theater collide and the collaboration between actor and director soon threatens to unravel.

Theater lovers and moviegoers at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu will have the chance to see Vanya on August 27.

Directed by Academy Award-winner Danny Boyle, with adaptation by Nick Dear, Frankenstein will return to the Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati on September 24. The thrilling, deeply disturbing Mary Shelley classic combines scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil. Child-like in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful Creature determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

Captured live on stage in 2011, the sold-out production stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, alternating between the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his creation. For September 24, Miller will be playing as the Creature.

The Motive and Cue will be shown at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu on September 24.

Come October 30, Fleabag will return to the Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati for the third time. Frankenstein, this time with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature, will premiere at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu on same day.

Witness Nye’s mind-bending life journey on November 26 at the Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati.

In Tim Price’s opus, Aneurin “Nye” Bevan confronted death in the eye, as he recollects his deepest memories from his childhood to mining underground, and his fights with Churchill

Benedict Cumberbatch plays the title role of yet another great Shakespearean tragedy, Hamlet, premiering on November 26, at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu. As the country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralyzed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state. The play is directed by Lyndsey Turner.

Closing the 2024 CCP NTL’s lineup, Hamlet will return to the Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati on December 17. Dear England will premiere on the same day at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu.

Experience The Best Of British Theater A Second Time Around with New CCP NTL Season

Posted on: June 11th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

A bigger, brighter, and bolder second season of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ National Theatre Live (CCP NTL) is set to delight its devoted Filipino audiences with a new lineup of world-class stage plays filmed live from Britain’s most exciting stages.

After a successful first season boasting waves of support from theater enthusiasts, playwrights, artists, and the broader public, the CCP National Theatre Live forges on to provide yet another exceptional ‘live’ performance experience with the best of what British theatre has to offer in more cinemas near you.

Through the partnership of the CCP with National Theatre Live and Ayala Malls, the second season of CCP NTL will premiere at Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati, Vertis North in Quezon City, and at the Ayala Center in Cebu from June 25, 2024 to May 27, 2025.

Award-winning plays Vanya, Dear England, The Motive and Cue, and Nye will grace the big screens in the Philippines.

Crowd favorites Fleabag, King Lear, Frankenstein, and Hamlet from the past season will make their comeback.Hopes, dreams, and regrets are thrust into sharp focus in Vanya, a one-man adaptation premiering on June 25 at the Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati. Exploring the complexities of human emotion, Andrew Scott brings multiple characters to life in Chekhov’s Uncle masterpiece, filmed live in West End, London.

Returning on June 25 at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu is Fleabag, a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life. Written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and directed by Vicky Jones, Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose. The hilarious, award-winning play that inspired the BBC’s hit TV series with the same title was filmed live on stage in London’s West End in 2019.

On July 30, James Graham’s Dear England arrives at the Ayala Malls Cinemas in Greenbelt, Makati. With the worst track record for penalties in the world, Gareth Southgate knows he needs to open his mind and face up to the years of hurt, to take the team and country back to the promised land.

The contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play King Lear will be re-screened on July 30 at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu. Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two aging fathers – one a King and another, his courtier – reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends. The play is directed by Jonathan Munby and stars Sir Ian McKellen.

Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” premieres in PH cinemas on June 28

Posted on: June 10th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

KEVIN Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” opens in Philippine cinemas on June 28, 2024, the same day as its global release.

Kevin Costner returns to the director’s chair with “Horizon: An American Saga,” a four-part epic Western featuring a star-studded cast including Costner himself, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Jena Malone, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Luke Wilson.

Distributed in the Philippines by Parallax Studios and Saga Films Studios, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” will premiere simultaneously with its global release on June 28, 2024. The eagerly anticipated Chapter 2 is slated for release in August 2024.

Kevin Costner, no stranger to the Western genre, made his directorial debut with the acclaimed 1990 film “Dances with Wolves,” which earned him Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards. Since 2018, he has also starred in the popular neo-Western drama series “Yellowstone,” which has inspired several prequels and spinoffs.

Jamie Campbell Bower and Kevin Costner in “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1”

“Horizon: An American Saga” is a passion project for Costner, who also co-wrote the films. The actor-director reportedly invested $38 million of his own money into the sweeping saga, a project he has been developing for over 30 years. The first two chapters, scheduled for release this year, cost $100 million to produce.

At the recent Cannes Film Festival, the first chapter received a seven-minute standing ovation. Costner, visibly moved, expressed his gratitude: “Such good people. Such a good moment, not just for me, but for the actors that came with me, for people who believed in me who continued to work. It’s a funny business, and I’m so glad I found it. There’s no place like here. I’ll never forget this — neither will my children.”

Sienna Miller in “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1”

“Horizon: An American Saga” delves into the lure of the Old West and the trials and tribulations faced by those who lived through it. Spanning the years of the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure promises to take audiences on an emotional journey through a country at war with itself.

According to movie website Next Best Picture, “In Western epics, there are incredible opportunities to explore engaging worlds while showcasing impressive visual artistry within the genre. However, no matter what, you can always count on folks like Kevin Costner to remind audiences of the power these films can still have in today’s age. It’s impossible not to feel that passion with ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’ as so much is packed into this nod to the epics of yesteryear. There’s a lot thrown at the screen that still manages to result in an engrossing experience.”

At the film’s press conference at Cannes, Costner spoke about the financial challenges he faced while making the epic saga. “I believe that when these lights go out and we’re in a movie theater, something magical can happen. Part of why I wanted to make one, two, three and four was to make it for myself because I know what it’s like to sit out there in the audience and the curtain opens and something magical is going to happen, and a story is going to transport us. The movies have always been a place for us to go have a chance at magic. Something that we’ll never ever forget.”

He humorously added, “To make the third one, I’ve knocked on every billionaire’s boat in Cannes to help me. They go, ‘Oh come, I want to have a picture.’ I say, ‘No, get your checkbook out. Let’s talk money,’” Costner laughed.

When asked about wearing multiple hats for this project, Costner said, “I’d like to think that I got to this place [in my life] because I like the work. I like the dreaming part. I like the late nights, directing and editing and writing – I like that part of it the best.”

Exploring Riley’s Teenage Mind: Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” Tackles Anxiety and Joy

Posted on: June 8th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

DISNEY and Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, “Inside Out 2,” is set to hit cinemas nationwide next week, on June 12. Picking up from the last scene of the beloved 2015 film “Inside Out,” the new installment delves into the vibrant and tumultuous world of Riley’s mind as she steps into her teenage years.

“Inside Out 2” begins with the ominous red button hinting at Riley turning 13, signaling the onset of the challenging and equally beautiful stage of puberty. The original film introduced viewers to the colorful characters representing Riley’s emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, as she navigated the significant changes that came with moving to a new city. It brought to light the complexity of emotions and the concept of ‘core memories,’ opening up meaningful conversations between kids and parents about feelings.

Now a teenager, Riley’s mind undergoes significant changes. In the Headquarters, a demolition crew arrives, preparing to make room for new Emotions, concepts, and locations. The trailer hints at the excitement and chaos this transformation will bring. What new experiences and lessons await Riley? What fresh concepts will she discover?

Every demolition marks the beginning of new construction, much like Riley’s ‘Belief System.’ This sacred space, interwoven with strings connected to Riley’s memories, plays a crucial role in decision-making and navigating the world. As old beliefs crumble to make way for new ones, Riley’s Emotions will clash, reshaping her ‘Belief System’ and influencing her future choices.

Alongside this, Riley’s ‘Sense of Self’ will be introduced, symbolizing the essence of her true inner self. This core aspect of identity is central to understanding the person Riley is becoming.

Capturing the essence of teenage chaos, Riley’s mind features the ‘Back of the Mind,’ a place where non-urgent thoughts are stored for later consideration, and ‘The Vault,’ a secure repository for all her secrets. These elements add depth and realism to the portrayal of Riley’s mental landscape, reflecting the complexities teenagers face.

“Inside Out 2” promises to be a chaotically fun and refreshing film that viewers of all ages can enjoy and relate to. As Riley navigates her expanding world and the intricate dynamics of her Emotions, audiences are invited to join her on this exciting journey.

So, gather your barkada or family for a cinematic experience filled with laughter and the creation of new core memories. “Inside Out 2” premieres in cinemas nationwide on June 12!

Feel the fear and the danger of the unknown in Ishana Night Shyamalan’s horror-thriller, “The Watchers”

Posted on: June 6th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Director Ishana Night Shyamalan weaves fantasy and horror together in her feature debut, The Watchers, and takes us on a mystery deep within the forests of Ireland. “The movie is very much a journey of uncovering this mystery—figuring out who these creatures are and what they want. Why are they being watched?”

Watch the “Try not to Die” featurette here: https://youtu.be/NZRGnOolB6g

To set the stage where the mysterious Watchers can observe the trapped individuals, Shyamalan started to formulate the look of the coop. “The coop is such an intriguing place, and it gave us so much to play with and think about when designing the build. In essence, it’s an observatory, but it works two ways—you are looking out, but you’re also being watched,” she says. “We were really drawn to the idea of almost a play with very theatrical elements and lighting—where any moment you are being observed and on display. That can be a very uncomfortable feeling. So, we leaned into brutalist architecture, and the colors and textures associated with it.”

Dakota Fanning, who plays the main character Mina, talks about the unsettling nature of the coop and being one of the characters trapped inside. “The coop’s purpose is to keep these four characters safe from the Watchers, and to also provide a way for the Watchers to watch them. There’s a big window that turns into a mirror at night,” Fanning explains. “At first, we filmed mostly with the mirror in, so you were kind of forced to look at yourself, which was a little bit strange at first, but it was also helpful, because it added to the uneasiness that the characters might also feel.”

Step inside the coop and uncover the truth as “The Watchers” is now showing in Philippine cinemas. Tickets are available at www.thewatchers.com.ph

About “The Watchers”

From producer M. Night Shyamalan comes “The Watchers,” written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan and based on the novel by A.M. Shine. The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.

You can’t see them, but they see everything.
