Gen.

Gen. Neil Alinsañgan, sa DICTM habang ipupuwesto si dating Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG) director Brig. Gen Lou Evangelista, bilang bagong Police Regional Office (PRO) 1 Director kapalit ni Brig Gen. John Chua.

(Gene Adsuara)

For World Pneumonia Day 2023, different stakeholder groups, advocates advance the fight to #StopPneumoniaTogether

Posted on: November 22nd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Manila, Philippines — For World Pneumonia Day 2023, healthcare company MSD in the Philippines mounts a multi-stakeholder media forum titled “Advance the Fight Against Pneumonia,” to engage different sectors to strengthen the call to stop pneumonia together. The forum also facilitates expert talks and multi-stakeholder discussions about the challenges and opportunities surrounding pneumonia prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in the Philippines.

World Pneumonia Day, celebrated every November 12, is a yearly reminder that pneumonia is a life-threatening disease that can strike anyone, anytime, anywhere. The annual event not only draws more awareness to this severe lung infection, but also drives a whole-of society approach to combat this highly preventable disease.

Facing the burden of pneumonia head-on

Just hearing the word “pneumonia” can make people hold their breath. After all, this life-threatening disease affects a couple of internal organs vital to our survival—our lungs.

Pneumonia is usually the result of a pneumococcal infection, caused by bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae. Other different types of bacteria can also cause pneumonia, as well as viruses and, more rarely, fungi. Once a person is infected, this bacterial infection can cause swelling or inflammation of the tissues in one or both of our lungs. Symptoms of pneumonia develop within 24 to 48 hours and may include coughing, difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, and chest pains.

It remains a leading cause of death among older adults and people with chronic diseases. In the Philippines, pneumonia was the sixth leading cause of death in 2022, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

And pneumonia doesn’t just strike older adults—it’s also a leading cause of death among children. In fact, pneumonia kills more children than any other infectious disease, claiming the lives of over 700,000 children under five years old every year, including 200,000 newborns, according to data from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This means that every 43 seconds, a child dies from pneumonia.

This alarming reality persists despite the wide availability of healthcare innovations that can help prevent the spread of and manage this life-threatening lung disease. This is why the call to #StopPneumoniaTogether has become more critical now more than ever to improve equitable and sustained access to effective pneumonia prevention and control intervention.

Vaccination: The first line of defense against pneumonia

One can significantly lower their risk of contracting pneumonia through immunization. It is highly recommended for people at greater risk of catching pneumonia, namely: infants under two years old, older adults over 65 years old, people with weakened or compromised immune systems, and people with chronic health conditions that affect the heart and lungs.

The Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID) recommends adults 50 years old and above to get immunized with pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccines (PPSV) or pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) to prevent invasive pneumococcal diseases.

The good news is, people can now secure their pneumococcal vaccinations from multiple access points – from hospitals and clinics, and at pharmacies and community drug stores as well.

Thanks to the Immunizing Pharmacist Certification Program of the Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA), pharmacists can now be trained and certified to become immunizing pharmacists, expanding the network of allied healthcare professionals pushing forward the fight against pneumonia.

And good news for our older adults, too: Filipinos aged 60 years old and above can get their pneumonia shots for free at the barangay health centers (BHCs) of their local government units (LGUs). This was made possible through the National Immunization Program (NIP) of the Department of Health (DOH).

Making healthcare accessible to all to #StopPneumoniaTogether

This World Pneumonia Day, join us in raising awareness about the burden of pneumonia and the importance of collective action to #StopPneumoniaTogether.

By strengthening and diversifying multi-stakeholder partnerships, we can make healthcare accessible to all, so the most vulnerable can access the whole spectrum of interventions against pneumonia—from prevention to early diagnosis and treatment. Together, we can make pneumonia a thing of the past.

#SEXIESTMANALIVE PATRICK DEMPSEY PLAYS THE SHERIFF IN A MURDER-PLAGUED TOWN IN ELI ROTH’S “THANKSGIVING”

Posted on: November 22nd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

FOR his holiday horror movie Thanksgiving, director Eli Roth brought the cast together very quickly – and first to join the film was Patrick Dempsey – McDreamy himself and People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2023. In the slasher movie, Dempsey plays Sheriff Newlon, who has the unenviable job of investigating the gruesome deaths that pile up like food on a Thanksgiving plate in his town.

Dempsey had two main reasons for wanting to join the cast: “My son wanted me to do a horror film,” he explains, “and I wanted to wear a uniform.”

In the movie, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings are soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. Dempsey is joined by younger cast members who play local high schoolers, including Nell Verlaque, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Tomaso Sanelli, Gabriel Davenport, Jenna Warren and TikTok star Addison Rae.

Dempsey notes that after coming of age as a heartthrob in teen movies like Can’t Buy Me Love and Loverboy, he’s now “on the other side,” as he puts it. With that experience, he knows what makes a teen cast tick. “It was fun to watch them blossom and come together as a company and as friends,” he says. “That chemistry makes the film fun and enjoyable and gives it authenticity.”

Dempsey’s castmates have only nice things to say about him too. “He’s a class act,” shares Verlaque, who plays Jessica. “I wish I could talk badly about him but I can’t.”

“Patrick really heightens this movie,” says Manheim, who plays Jessica’s boyfriend Ryan, and who stars in another upcoming holiday film, Journey to Bethlehem. “There’s nobody else that I’d rather have be our fearless leader.”

A starstruck Warren, who plays Yulia, shares a fun behind-the-scenes story about her heartthrob costar. “On our first day, Patrick Dempsey scared me in a clown costume twice,” she recalls. “I screamed and dropped to the ground. It was the weirdest phone call I’ve ever made to my mom. ‘You can’t repeat this to anyone, and I shouldn’t even be telling you this right now but Patrick Dempsey just scared me in a clown suit twice in front of everyone on my first day. So I’m really excited to be here.’”

It’s been quite an experience for Dempsey too. “I haven’t done a horror film in a really long time, so for me it’s been really fun,” he says.

This November, a new horror legend will emerge. Thanksgiving, starring Patrick Dempsey, opens in  Philippine cinemas November 22, distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Connect with the hashtag #ThanksgivingMovie

Supportive naman at ‘nakikialam’ in a good way: LA, never nagka-problema sa mommy niya sa naging girlfriends

Posted on: November 22nd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“Nakikialam in a good way. Pine-facial niya.

“Nakikialam in a good way, iyon nga, in a good way.”

“Parang nag-drift apart kami.

“Pero I’m very happy.

First time niyang katrabaho si Claudine.

Tigil-pasada naging payapa – PNP

Posted on: November 22nd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

(Daris Jose)

Karagdagang financial assistance ibigay sa mga bingi, bulag, pipi at may down syndrome kada taon

Posted on: November 22nd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Posted on: November 22nd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“The concept is that when you modernize, it can’t be done individually, in bits and pieces. Your modernization won’t progress if you do it one at a time. However, we are giving them a very long time, at least around three years,” wika ni LTFRB chairman Teofilo Guadiz III.

“By mere filing, you can be considered consolidated,” dagdag ni Guadiz.

“As of now, we’re only giving them one-year provisional authority to time it with the modernization program. But the moment that they join the modernization program, we can provide them with a five-year authority,” saad ni Guadiz.

“Through this proposal, we aim to expedite the process, reduce or shorten the requirements so that everyone is encouraged and able to comply with the implementation of PUV modernization,” wika ni Lee.

LASACMAR
