Ridley Scott and his team Reflect on the Journey Behind “Gladiator II”

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

FANS of Gladiator can finally rejoice as the highly-anticipated sequel, Gladiator II, directed by Ridley Scott, roars into cinemas on December 4.

Ever since the first film’s legendary success in 2000, whispers of a sequel have echoed through Hollywood. According to Scott, “The popularity of Gladiator just kept growing. The film stayed in the public’s mind. I knew we should consider a sequel, but it took years to figure out what the story was going to be.”

Producer Michael Pruss, who has worked closely with Scott for over a decade, reveals, “The world of the Roman Empire and the unforgettable characters of Gladiator were so brilliantly crafted. Recreating that on an even grander scale [for the sequel] was a necessity. We wanted that same powerful motivation for revenge but something that was also fresh and modern and unique. It took longer than anybody anticipated, but great ideas and human drama take time to craft. Hopefully the results here speak for themselves.” This fresh twist involves a new lead character, Lucius, portrayed by rising star Paul Mescal, who plays the part of an embittered exile determined to confront his past.

Producer Lucy Fisher, who has been part of the Gladiator II journey since 2001, felt that a strong story was crucial. “It took a long time to get a story that we thought would be worthy of being a sequel to Gladiator. But once we grabbed onto the character of Lucius [played by Paul Mescal] as an angry young man, exiled and abandoned, and committed to destroying the city that had both made and betrayed him, our story began to unfold. Lucius would be a lost prince, wanting to be anywhere but Rome, and yet all roads would lead him there.” Fisher explains.

Reprising the grand combat scenes that made the original a spectacle is a formidable task, notes producer Douglas Wick. “The audience has seen grand combat many times over and their thirst for MORE was unquenchable. Whatever we created had to provide captivating new thrills. A true spectacle for the ages.”

In 2021, Scott teamed up with screenwriter David Scarpa, known for All the Money in the World. Together, they brought a new layer of intensity to the Colosseum, where battle has become even more brutal and audiences more bloodthirsty. Roman emperors Caracalla and Geta (portrayed by Fred Hechinger and Joseph Quinn) heighten the sense of tyranny, pushing the empire to new depths of cruelty and spectacle.

“I knew and loved the original,” says Scarpa. “When Ridley approached me, I was extremely excited. Gladiator is such an esteemed classic and a touchstone for historical action films. I was both honored and a little apprehensive about working with the people who created that world. Ridley has a very strong directorial voice, and his vision is central to the movie.”

For Scott, Gladiator II is about more than Rome. “This film is about the Roman Empire, obviously,” he says. “But it’s also about the way humanity never learns its lesson. We keep repeating history again and again and again.”

Mark your calendars! Gladiator II is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas on December 4, distributed by Paramount Pictures through Columbia Pictures. Don’t miss this epic return to the world of Gladiator. Share your excitement with #GladiatorII and tag @paramountpicsph. (Photo & Video Credit: “Paramount Pictures”)

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

At kahit malayo man kami sa isa’t isa ngayon, sana huwag nila akong iwan.

“I’m a happy new dad to a very, very healthy and beautiful baby boy. He’s four months old today.

“He’s my constant source of inspiration and he makes me so happy. I’ve never experienced happiness at this level.

“I wouldn’t want that for me as well. So I wouldn’t want him growing up na yun din ang mararamdaman niya.

“I’m very proud, I’m very happy… I learned now, biggest learnings from the past few years of my life, that you really have to ano…

“I love to work, I’m very thankful for it, and I love the industry. Pero you do need now the reason. Para sa kanya din yun.

“It’s something I wanna pass down to him. I wanna teach him to have proper boundaries between your main life and your professional life.”

“Nag-meet kami after nung divorce namin. So everything na meron ako ngayon is a good start,” pakli ni Tom.

“It’s everything. It’s the very reason why I came back,” pagsisiwalat ni Tom.

“Everything I go through, iniisip ko, ‘How will I want to teach him this?

“Like, hindi yung ano, ‘OK, how do I get through this?’ No. ‘What can I learn from this to be able to pass it down to him?’

“So, even coming back, kasi ang sarap ng… parang kuntento na ako sa buhay ko dun sa Amerika, and yet I have contracts and obligations that I need to take care of here.

And yet I would like to show him that I can finish things that I’ve started, and parang set a good example.

“So that’s all I can do for now. So everything that I do, he really is in my mind.”

Nasa cast din sina Pinky Amador, Rita Avila, Emilio Garcia, Jim Pebanco, Lloyd Samartino, Nella Dizon, Simon Ibarra, Tanya Gomez, Marcus Madrigal, Panteen Palanca, Mygz Molino, Felixia Crysten, at King David Arce.

Mula ito sa Bentria Productions.

Kumita agad ng P85M at pinalabas sa 1,000 cinemas worldwide: ‘Hello, Love, Again’ nina sa ALDEN at KATHRYN, nakuha ang highest opening gross for a local film

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“True love shouldn’t be forcefully stolen, only experienced. Kindly report ALL pirated ‘Hello, Love, Again’ content:

“Send email to Report-Piracy@abs-cbn.com

“Email subject: Report Piracy (Hello, Love, Again)

“Please provide LINKS of pirated content. Let’s protect the love that Joy and Ethan fought hard for.”

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Sam Verzosa.
Ayon sa Kapuso actress, “I emailed New York Road Runners to ask why 3 of our splits were missing… here’s their response (Yup! Fact checking is THAT easy!)”
Sumagot naman ang NYRR Runner Services:
“Rhian,
“It looks like both you and Samuel fell behind the sweep and the timing points at 30km, 20 miles and 35km were removed from the course as the streets reopened before you passed through. In Central Park, we can stay open longer, so you were picked up again at 40km.
“We certainly are not holding those timing points against you; you are both still listed as official finishers.
“Tom”
Say pa ni Rhian, “Happy about their speedy response [white heart emoji] and that they don’t hold those timing points against us. Bet they’ve never met [three red crabs] though.”
Kaya sa kanyang social media post na sinimulan niya ito ng: I’LL KEEP THIS HERE JUST FOR TODAY, WILL DELETE TOMORROW.
“I understand that a lot of people think “chismis” is fun, and it’s so easy to make something up just to get 15 minutes of fame… But in 2024, it’s so easy to send an email, verify facts, and get your story straight before trying to ruin someone’s name for a little attention -especially when it’s your job to do so.
“Yes, if you work in media, publications, or law, you do have a much bigger responsibility to not spread fake news, and it’s much more disappointing from people in that line of business to publicize lies… But I believe that everyone can also benefit from a little fact checking and common sense.
“Sam and I aren’t professional runners. In fact, the New York Marathon was my first 42k ever. Before this, I’ve never even run 32k…not even 22k! 😅.png Everyone said I was crazy to do it, especially without a professional trainer.. But given my schedule, I basically just relied on mental strength and making sure that I kept a fairly active lifestyle before actually flying to the US.
“We didn’t do it to compete with anyone’s times. We just had to make sure we could finish it without passing out or getting injured, because above everything, we were doing it for charity. By completing each of our runs, Sam and I raised money for children with clefts to get proper treatment and essential operations…and even if we were pretty much limping to the finish line, it was this cause that kept us from quitting and made this experience one of the best things I’ve ever done! 😊.png And I’d totally do it again too.”
“I can’t fathom why someone would try to take that away from us and our cause. Crab mentality is such a common term in this country, but can we Filipinos not be known for that anymore? Can we be known for pushing one another to achieve goals and make dreams come true? Like, why is that our norm, right?
“Anyway, I’d like to use this moment to encourage you that if we could do this, you can do anything ! …and also it’s a reminder that liars and fake news are everywhere! And even if “chismis is fun”, the truth can be fun too.“

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“ If the former President desires to surrender himself to the jurisdiction of the ICC, the government will neither object to it nor move to block the fulfillment of his desire.

But if the ICC refers the process to the Interpol, which may then transmit a red notice to the Philippine authorities, the government will feel obliged to consider the red notice as a request to be honored, in which case the domestic law enforcement agencies shall be bound to accord full cooperation to the Interpol pursuant to established protocols,” mensahe ni Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin. (Daris Jose)

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“Our mission is to seek the truth, and we shall not be swayed from that path,” pahayag ni Abante.

“The Quad Comm was established after realizing that overlapping issues were being investigated by various committees. We are here not to judge but to listen, to understand the truth,” ani Barbers. (Vina de Guzman)

‘Timely announcement’ ng gov’t work, class suspension, pangako ng DILG

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“When I was governor of Cavite, I was always a day ahead,” ang sinabi ni Remulla.

Posted on: November 15th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

PINURI ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang paghatol kay Kenyan national Cholo Abdi Abdullah sa New York.

Si Abdullah ay dineport mula sa Pilipinas noong 2020 matapos maaresto ng an alleged operative of the terrorist group al-Shabaab, had been deported from the Philippines in 2020 after his arrest by BI intelligence officers and Anti-Terrorist Group

“This conviction shows the importance of our work in keeping high-risk individuals out of the country, as well as dismantling terrorist operations,” ayon kay BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado . “Our commitment to national and global security is unwavering.”

GENE ADSUARA
