PINAG-UUSAPAN nang husto ang katatapos lang na PBA Philippine Cup Game 7 last Sunday, September 4 kung saan tinutukan ng basketball aficionados ang matinding labanan ng San Miguel Beermen at TNT Tropang Giga.
The match scored record-high viewership para sa TV 5 at OneSports Channel. Napuno rin ang Araneta Coliseum.
Ayon sa Nielsen NUTAM Overnight Data, ang PBA Game 7 telecast sa TV5 at OneSports ay nakakuha ng “cumulative unduplicated reach” of 6.9 million viewers and a combined ratings of 6.85 average minute rating (AMR), placing Top 6 Program of the Day across all channels.
Umapaw din ang tao na nanood sa Araneta Coliseum kung saan may 15, 195 gate attendance para sa do-or-die Game 7 match kung saan napuno ng hiwayan ng mga PBA fans ang venue.
Nakatutuwang makita ang excitement ng mga sports fans sa iba’t-ibang bahagi ng bansa. Mahigit sa 879,000 namatay, naitala para sa taong 2021
ITINUTURING ng Commission on Population and Development (PopCom) na “deadliest” sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas ang naitalang 879,000 filipinong namatay noong 2021.
Sinabi ni PopCom executive director, Undersecretary Juan Antonio Perez III na ang kabuuang 879,429 na namatay na filipino ay batay sa ulat ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) noong nakaraang taon.
Noong nakaraang taon naman ay nakapagtala ng 2,700 deaths daily.
Base sa kanyang pansariling obserbasyon at pag-aanalisa sa nakalipas na mga taon, sinabi ni Perez na mayroong isa hanggang limang porsiyento ang itinaas sa mortality rate sa normal years subalit noong taong 2021, ang pagtaas ay lumobo sa 43% kumapara sa taong 2020.
“Translated into figure, the reported death in 2021 is 265,493 higher than in 2020 which recorded a total of 613,936 deaths,” ayon kay Perez.
” It was in September which had the most number of deaths in 2021 when a total of 119,758 Filipinos perished—which means that 3,992 Filipinos died daily in that month or almost three deaths per minute,” dagdag na pahayag nito.
May kabuuang 146,137 naman ang namatay dahil sa Covid-19.
“In 2020, there were 30,188 Covid-related deaths reported in the country. In 2021, it ballooned to a total of 105,723.
From January 1 to May 21 in 2022, a total of 10,226 Covid-related deaths were already reported,” ayon sa ulat.
Sinabi ni Perez na ang Covid-19 ang itinuturing na “major factor” sa labis-labis na mortality sa bansa noong 2021.
Samantala, ang mga namatay naman dahil sa malnutrisyon ay tumaas ng 47%.
Bago pa pumutok ang Covid-19 sa bansa, sinabi na ng PopCom na ang mataas na “excess mortalities” ay dahil sa health-related matters.
Kabilang dito ang “heart attacks, cerebrovascular disease or referred to as strokes, diabetes at hypertension.”
“Many of the diseases that caused increased mortality are preventable at the primary level of care, but the health system was not flexible enough to treat and care for both COVID and non-COVID patients,” ayon kay Perez. (Daris Jose)

Kai Sotto posts double-double in Adelaide’s first preseason game for NBL23
FILIPINO young star Kai Sotto flexed his offseason improvement in his return to the Adelaide 36ers in NBL Australia.
The 7’3″ Sotto delivered 11 points and 11 rebounds in limited playing time in Adelaide’s 98-87 loss against Perth Wildcats.
Despite not getting the win, Sotto impressed everyone including his three slam dunks in the game.
This is a good sign after he went undrafted in the 2022 NBA rookie selection.
Sotto and the 36ers will play several pre-season games including against NBA teams Phoenix Suns and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Filipino fans were expecting the Sotto-Chet Holmgren matchup in OKC before the No. 2 overall pick got injured in the Crawsover Pro-Am league that will force him to sit out the entire season.
Insentibo sa mga guro, matatanggap ngayong National Teachers’ month
TINIYAK ng Department of Education (DepEd) na makakatanggap ang lahat ng mga guro ng kanilang mga insentibo kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng National Teachers’ Month mula Setyembre 5 hanggang Oktubre 5.
Makakakuha ng P1,000 ang mga guro sa pampublikong paaralan bilang insentibo.
Ginawa ni Department of Education (DepEd) Spokesperson Michael Poa ang anunsyo sa isang press conference, na sinabing magpapatuloy ang ahensya sa pagbibigay ng insentibo, katulad ng nakaraang administrasyon.
Ipinagdiriwang ang National Teachers’ Month mula Setyembre 5 hanggang Oktubre 5.
Binigyang-diin ni Poa ang mahalagang papel ng mga guro sa pag-aalaga ng mga mag-aaral, na nangakong gagawin ng ahensya ang lahat para matugunan ang kanilang mga pangangailangan.
Hindi sila mapapagod na makinig sa mga hinaing ng guro
Aniya, hindi man mabibigyan ng resolusyon overnight o sa mga susunod na linggo ngunit talagang adhikain nila sa Department of Education na matugunan ang kanilang mga suliranin.
LTO: 101,889 sasakyan maaring marehistro kahit may NCAP violations
MAKARAANG mag-issue ng temporary restraining order (TRO) ang Supreme Court (SC) sapagpapatupad ng no-contact apprehension policy (NCAP), ang Land Transportation Office (LTO) ay nagpahayag na kanilang papayagang marehistro ang mahigit sa 100,000 na sasakyang may violations sa ilalim ng NCAP.
May kabuuang 101,889 na sasakyan na may traffic violations mula sa tatlong lungsod ang aalisin sa alarm tagging system at papayagang marehistro ang mga nasabing sasakyan.
Sinabi ng LTO na ang tatlong (3) local government units (LGUs) naaalisin ang alarm tagging ay ang Quezon City na may 1,190 alarms, Paranaque City na mayroong 93,083 na alarms, at Bataan na may 7,616 na alarms.
Natapos na ng lungsod ng Quezon, Paranaque at Bataan ang proseso para sa pag-aalis ng alarm tagging ng mga sasakyan habang ang Manila ay patuloy pa rin ang ginagawang proseso.
“This will allow the renewal of registration of apprehended motor vehicles through the NCAP pending the final decision/resolution of the Supreme Court on the matter,” wika ni LTO assistant secretary Teofilo Guadiz.
Subalit kung sakaling pagtibayin ng SC ang validity ng NCAP, ang mga LGUs ay papayagan na muling ma-re-tagged ang mga nasabing sasakyan na may corresponding fines at penalties.
“In the event the Supreme Court will affirm the validity of the same, the alarms shall be re-tagged in our system, and the fines/penalties shall be reflected and/or applied during the next renewal for registration,” dagdag ni Guadiz.
Ganon pa man, pinaalalahanan ni Guadiz ang motoring public na maging responsible kung sila ay nagmamaneho at huwag magmaneho kung nakainom o nasa ilalim ng drugs.
Mula nang magsimula ang taon, may 353 na drivers ang nag-positive sa alcohol intoxication nang sila ay nasangkot sa aksidente na naging sanhi ng 15 kaso ng pagkamatay at 232 na kaso ng physical injuries.
Ang mga drivers ay nabigyan ng 90 days suspension at humarap sa administrative sanctions at penalties.
Sa ilalim ng NCAP, ang isang motorista ay binibigyan ng multang P2,000 para s aunang offense, P3,000 sa ikalawang offense at P4,000 naman para sa ikatlong offense nakaugnay sa disobedience sa traffic, control signals at signs, obstruction ng pedestrian lanes, driving sa yellow yellow box, overspeeding, non-wearing of helmet ng motorcycle riders at disregard sa lane markings.
Para naman sa offenses tulad ng counterflow, reckless driving at non-wearing ng seatbelts ay nagkakahalaga ng P3,000 sa unang offense, P4,000 sa ikalawang offense at P5,000 sa ikatlong offense. LASACMAR

Nakumpletong flagship infra projects, pumalo na sa 15 mula sa 119 —DPWH
TUMAAS na sa 15, “as of June” ngayong taon ang bilang ng mga infrastructure flagship projects (IFPs) sa ilalim ng “Build, Build, Build” initiative ng nagdaang administrasyon.
Sa isinagawang House Organizational Meeting of the Committee on Flagship Programs and Projects, sinabi ni Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain na mayroong tatlo pang IFPs ang nakumpleto sa loob ng unang bahagi ng taon.
Ito ang dahilan para makumpleto ang IFPs sa 15 mula sa 119. May 12 lang kasi ng IFPs ang natapos ng DPWH noong Abril.
“These three newly completed projects are the P7.505-billion Flood Risk Management Project in Cagayan, Tagoloan, and Imus Rivers; the P5.947-billion China grant-funded Metro Manila Logistics Network (Estrella-Pantaleon and Binondo-Intramuros Bridges); and the P9.759-billion LRT-2 East Extension Project,” ayon kay Sadain.
Napaulat na ang unang 12 proyektong nakompleto para sa taong 2020 ay “P1-billion Improvement of remaining sections along Pasig River from Delpan Bridge to Napindan Channel, P245-million Pulangi 4 Selective Dredging Phase 3, P1.436-billion Sangley Airport, P3.29-billion Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project, P18-billion New Clark City Phase 1, P14.972-billion Clark International Airport Expansion Project at P1-billion Luzon Bypass Infrastructure Project.”
Habang ang mga proyekto naman na nakompleto para sa taong 2021 ay P950-million LTO Central Office Command Center, P1.096-billion General Santos Airport, P971-million Programme for the Support to Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Marawi City and its Surrounding Areas, P5.724-billion Metro Manila Logistics Network: Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road Project at P21.966-billion MRT-3 Rehabilitation Project.”
Samantala, ang mga proyekto naman na natapos lamang nitong nakaraang buwan ng Hunyo ay “P1.166-billion Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project at ang P5.445-billion Matibug-Maridagao Irrigation Project Stage 2.”
Kasalukuyan namang nagpapatuloy ang P750-million Motor Vehicle Recognition and Enhancement System Project na may 87% completion rate, habang ang P2.783-billion Unified Grand Central Station ay nagpapatuloy din na mayroong 76.29% progress rate.
Mayroon ding 10 IFPs ang inaasahang mako-kompleto sa Disyembre 2022, kabilang dito ang “P4.573-billion Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project Phase 5 (92.73% complete), P4.497-billion Chico River Pump Irrigation Project (87.64% complete, partially inaugurated noong Hunyo 25, 2022), at P4.798-billion Bicol International Airport Development Project (97.328%, inaugurated noong Oktubre 6, 2021).
Sa kabilang dako, mayroon namang 90 IFPs ang nasa “implementation and completion stage” para sa taong 2023 pasulong.
Mayroong ongoing construction na 37; ongoing detailed engineering design na 11; ongoing processing ng financing na 7 ; ongoing procurement na 8 eight; ongoing government approval na 8 ; at ongoing project preparation na 19.
Matatandaang sinabi ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., na maglalaan ang pamahalaan ng 5% hanggang 6% ng gross domestic product (GDP) sa infrastructure projects ng bansa. (Daris Jose)
Dagdag sa DA budget, subsidies, pagagaanin ang impact ng inflation
NAGPAHAYAG ng kumpiyansa ang isang mataas na lider ng Kamara na ang halos 40% increase sa badyet ng Department of Agriculture (DA) sa susunod na taon at ang patuloy na subsidiya sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) para sa bulnerableng sector, ay makakatulong para maisaayos at mapagaan ang impact ng mataas na inflation rates.
“Kaya importante na tumaas ang budget ng DA. As we know, iyong inflation rate kasi weighted average iyan ng inflation rate ng iba’t ibang commodities. As we know, iyong commodity na mayroong pinakamalaking weight is of course food, one way to reduce food inflation rate is to ensure na mayroon tayong adequate supply,” ani Marikina City Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo, senior vice chairperson ng House committee on appropriations.
Ayon sa mambabatas, makakatulong ang pagtaas sa alokasyon ng DA para sa pagpapatupad ng mga programa nito na magsisiguro sa food security ng bansa.
“So ibig sabihin, kailangan nating palawakin ang suplay ng agricultural crops natin. Nandiyan ang bigas, corn, of course nandiyan ang karne, ang fish at meat,” dagdag ni Quimbo.
Naniniwala rin ito na tama ang direksiyon ng gobyerno na bigyan ng sapat na atensiyon at sapat na dagdag ang budget ng Department of Agriculture dahil kapag dumadami ang suplay ay puwedeng mapababa ang presyo ng pagkain.
Ang badyet ng DA para sa susunod na taon ay tumaas ng P46.5 billion o 39.62% mula sa P117.29 billion ngayon taon o magiging P163.75 billion sa 2023.
Importante rin aniya ang patuloy na ibinibigay na subsidiya ng DSWD para matulungan ang bulnerableng sector sa impact ng mataas na presyo ng bilihin.
“Kaya importante ang DSWD assistance programs, we have to make sure na ang ating mga kababayan na nangangailangan, nandiyan ang sufficiently funded na iba’t ibang assistance programs. With or without the pandemic, dapat may assistance programs talaga,” pahayag pa ni Quimbo. (Ara Romero)
