A Weekend of Celebration: 10 Years of Greenfield District’s Weekend Market

Posted on: June 20th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

The vibrant community brought out the thrill and festivities at the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Greenfield Weekend Market on May 25, 2024. The grand celebration was jam-packed with astonishing performances, exciting games, raffle prizes, and, of course, its staple artisan food, live art, and live music.

Launched in March 2014, the market has been a consistent presence in the list of top weekend hangout spots in the metro. It has become a beloved destination for friends and families due to its exquisite blend of food, vintage and unique finds, art, music, books, and even tarot reading! But more than just a market, it has become a cornerstone for community-building in Mandaluyong City.

The Birth of a Community Hub

The Greenfield Weekend Market was conceived with a vision: to create a space where people could escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse themselves in a vibrant, communal atmosphere. Nestled in a wide, green expanse in Greenfield District, the market showcases Metro Manila’s most exciting experiences and serves as an outdoor destination to gather people with their loved ones.

“We wanted to create more than just a place to shop. We envisioned a space where people could connect, share experiences, and build lasting memories. Over the past decade, it’s been incredible to see how the market has grown and evolved, becoming a significant part of this community and of so many people’s lives,” said Ms. Kathy Tambunting, Sr. Marketing Manager of Greenfield Development Corporation.

“I’m here every weekend,” shared Mary Joy, 35, who brought her pet dog and invited her friend Euella, who came from Cebu, to enjoy the festivities of the market. “What I love most about the Greenfield Weekend Market is its live band. It’s fun to come here because of that, coupled with the affordable, wide-ranging food stalls. Plus, I can bring my dog with me!” She shared how she frequently meets up with fellow dog owners and has created a mini dog community with them.

“The vibes are somewhat similar to Cebu’s Sinulog festival! As a first-timer, the event is amazing. We’re happy and we’re chill!” said Euella, 43.

A Feast for the Senses

One of the main draws of the Greenfield Weekend Market is its eclectic array of food stalls. From traditional Filipino street food to gourmet delicacies and too international cuisine, there is something to satisfy every palate.

For many visitors, the market has been an avenue for culinary adventures. Families gather to enjoy freshly cooked meals, couples share sweet treats, and friends toast with refreshing drinks. The aroma of ihaw ihaw, freshly baked pastries, and exotic spices fills the air, creating an inviting and festive atmosphere.

“It’s our first time here. We’ve always wanted to visit the market, so it’s good that our schedules finally aligned. Despite the weather, we are having fun! We love the ambience of the place, and the food stalls all look appetizing. We’ll definitely becoming back,” said Pat, 27, who brought her mom to the celebration.

More than just a place to eat, the Greenfield Weekend Market is a cultural hub. Live music performances add a vibrant soundtrack to complete the market experience. Local bands and solo artists entertain the crowd with a variety of genres, from indie rock to jazz. These performances provide a platform for emerging talent and enrich the market’s lively atmosphere. At the recently held 10th anniversary celebration, the Rockitwell Band livened up the crowd with its renditions of timeless songs Filipinos have loved and rocked to.

Art also plays a significant role in the market’s identity. Every weekend, local artists set up booths to display their work and offer live portraits to visitors. From paintings and portraits to artisan crafts, the market celebrates creativity in all its forms. Attendees can even find artists at work, offering a glimpse into their creative process.

A Treasure Trove of Unique Finds

Shopping at the Greenfield Weekend Market is like a treasure hunt. Hard-to-find books, handcrafted jewelry and trinkets, quirky home décor, and handmade bags are just a few of the items that it offers. Each stall tells a story, reflecting the passion and creativity of the vendors.

Clifford, the owner of MRR Elite and Accessories, has been selling precious stones and handmade jewelry on the market for 10 years. “The Greenfield Weekend Market had affordable rent yet was the most crowded area and profitable among other bazaars in Metro Manila. We started with only one table, now we have two tables at the market, and we have even expanded to a branch in Pasig. Over the years, we have established our shop here and have developed relationships with our mga suki from different parts of the country,” he shared, fondly looking back at his experience as a merchant at the market.

One of the more unique attractions at the Greenfield Weekend Market is the presence of a tarot reader. Whether visitors are believers in the power of the tarot or are simply curious, it is undeniable that these mystics add an element of intrigue and mystery to the market. Over the years, the market has also served as a place where people come to explore not just the external world, but their inner selves as well.

Looking Forward

The Greenfield Weekend Market’s 10-year anniversary is not just a celebration of its past, but also a look toward the future. The market plans to further evolve and promote the vibrancy at the heart of Mandaluyong, serving as a prime communal space for people in the metro while fostering community ties.

“We want to keep evolving and responding to the needs and interests of our community. Whether it’s through introducing new types of cuisine, hosting cultural events, or providing more opportunities for local artists and entrepreneurs, our goal is to keep the market a dynamic and welcoming place for everyone,” said Ms. Tambunting.

The Greenfield Weekend Market has proven that it is more than just a weekend destination. It is a living, breathing community that has brought people together for a decade. As it celebrates its 10-year milestone, the market remains a testament to the power of shared experiences and the enduring value of community. Here’s to many more years of food, art, music, shopping, and memories at the Greenfield Weekend Market, where every weekend promises a new adventure. Opens every Saturday and Sunday from 4pm till 12am located at Greenfield District Central Park in Mandaluyong City.

Paolo, Krista at Sid, may kanya-kanyang paniniwala: RHEN, umaming na-karma dahil sa nagawang mali pero may natutunan

Posted on: June 20th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“Dahil buong buhay ko isa yun sa mga pinapaniwalaan talaga na, do good to others and everything good will happen to you.

“So talagang naniniwala ako dun. So so far naman lahat ng karma ko sa buhay e maganda and I’m very thankful for that.”

“So good karma ako so far,” ang nakangiting pahabol pang sinabi ni Paolo.

Lahad naman ni Krista Miller, “Yes po naniniwala din po ako sa karma and like din kay Paolo good karma naman siya.

“And kung nakakaranas man ako ng bad karma tine-take ko siya as good karma for me to learn sa mga past experiences ko, ganun.”

One hundred percent.

“And I don’t think it just extends to like how you treat other people because all my life, like si Paolo, I’ve been up and down, under the wheel, and I notice that I don’t really treat other people poorly, in fact I’ve been raised to treat everybody as equals, right?

“But I realized also that it goes and like extends to how well you treat yourself.

“And ever since I started being nice to myself the world started shining back at me,” at natawa si Sid.

Dagdag pa niyang sinabi, “So I’m really happy.”

“Like yung na-mention ko kanina it was more of not how I like treat the world around me, it was more of how I treated myself and I think I treated myself so well that the universe turned its back on me,” at tumawa si Sid.

“I partied too hard, is that what you wanna know,” ang tumatawa pa ring bulalas ni Sid.

“Yes! Anyway, yeah, after that, like I said with the first question, you start treating yourself better, the universe smiles back at you.”

“Nag-grow ako as a person, as an actor.

“But it doesn’t mean naman na kapag kinarma ka in a bad way is you’re a bad person, hindi naman po ganun iyon.

“Part iyon ng life, lahat naman tayo nagkakamali and lahat tayo for sure doon sa bawat bad karma na iyon may natutunan tayo.”

Mula sa Viva Films at Happy Infinite Productions (represented by Grace Mariel Isais during the mediacon), at ipapalabas sa mga sinehan sa June 19, nasa cast rin ng ‘Karma’ sina Roi Vinzon, Mon Confiado at Leandro Baldemor, sa direksyon ni Albert Langitan at Zyro Radoc.

KEVIN COSTNER’S EPIC WESTERN “HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA” CHAPTER 1 TO OPEN IN PH CINEMAS, SAME DAY AS U. S.

Posted on: June 20th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

KEVIN Costner is back in the director’s chair with “Horizon: An American Saga,” a four-part epic Western featuring a star-studded cast that includes Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Jena Malone, Jamie Campbell Bower and Luke Wilson. “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1,” distributed in the Philippines by Parallax Studios, opens in local cinemas simultaneously with the rest of the world on June 28, while Chapter 2 has been scheduled for August 2024.

Costner is no stranger to the Western genre. His directorial debut was 1990’s “Dances with Wolves,” also an epic Western, which won the then first-time director Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards. And since 2018, Costner has top-billed “Yellowstone,” a popular neo-Western drama series that has inspired multiple prequels and spinoff series.

Sanding ovation at Cannes
Horizon: An American Saga” is said to be a passion project of Costner’s. The actor-director, who also co-wrote the films, reportedly poured $38 million of his own money to make the sweeping saga, a project that he’s been developing for over 30 years. According to reports, the first two chapters, scheduled for release this year, cost $100 million to make.
The first chapter was screened at the recently concluded Cannes Film Festival, where it earned a seven-minute standing ovation. “Such good people. Such a good moment, not just for me, but for the actors that came with me, for people who believed in me who continued to work,” said a teary-eyed Costner, in response to the standing ovation, applause and chants of his name. “It’s a funny business, and I’m so glad I found it. There’s no place like here. I’ll never forget this — neither will my children.”
“Horizon: An American Saga” explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won – and lost – through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the American Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself.

In their review out of Cannes, movie website Next Best Picture said that in Western epics, “there are incredible opportunities to explore engaging worlds while showcasing impressive visual artistry within the genre. However, no matter what, you can always count on folks like Kevin Costner to remind audiences of the power these films can still have in today’s age. It’s impossible not to feel that passion with ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’ as so much is packed into this nod to the epics of yesteryear. There’s a lot thrown at the screen that still manages to result in an engrossing experience.”

Magic in the movies
“I don’t fall out of love with what I think is something good,” Costner, speaking at the film’s press conference at Cannes, answered when a reporter asked him about the financial challenges he’s so far had to face while making the epic saga. “I believe that when these lights go out and we’re in a movie theater, something magical can happen. Part of why I wanted to make one, two, three and four was to make it for myself because I know what it’s like to sit out there in the audience and the curtain opens and something magical is going to happen, and a story is going to transport us. The movies have always been a place for us to go have a chance at magic. Something that we’ll never ever forget.”
Costner then went on to joke that to make the third one, he’s knocked on every billionaire’s boat in Cannes to help him. “They go, ‘Oh come, I want to have a picture.’ I say, ‘No, get your checkbook out. Let’s talk money,’” a laughing Costner told reporters.
When asked if it was difficult to wear so many hats for this passion project (writer, director, producer, actor), Costner said, “I’d like to think that I got to this place [in my life] because I like the work. I like the dreaming part. I like the late nights, directing and editing and writing – I like that part of it the best.”
Get ready to be swept away when the first chapter of the epic “Horizon: An American Saga,” distributed in the Philippines by Parallax Studios with Axinite Digicinema, opens in cinemas June 28.

Nagulat at ‘di makapaniwala sa naganap sa concert: STELL, napabilib si DAVID FOSTER sa pagbirit ng ‘All By Myself’

Posted on: June 20th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Say pa ni Foster, “Stell, who sang before me, incredible! He did a great job!”

“I’m still shocked. Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala na nabigyan ako ng ganitong opportunity to perform on stage with the hitman, Mr. David Foster,” panimula niya.

Pagpapatuloy ni Stell, “So, pag akyat ko ng stage dapat mag-soundcheck na ako for my spot, pero nagulat ako Sir David is playing the piano.

So na pa “huh” ako then sabi niya ‘all by myself’ give it a try daw.

“After iplay yung arrangement nung song sabi niya “do you want to perform this song tonight?” nasabi ko nalang “if it’s ok with you sir” biglang BOOOM ayun na ang nangyare.

Thank you Sir David Foster and to the whole team.

Posted on: June 20th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Posted on: June 20th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments
