Bonggang regalo sa kanyang 40th birthday: MARIAN, waging best actress sa ‘Cinemalaya XX’ at ka-tie si GABBY
WAGING-WAGI si Marian Rivera dahil siya ang tinanghal na best actress sa 20th Cinemalaya Film Festival noong Linggo, August 11, bisperas ng kanyang ika-40 na kaarawan.
Dahil ito sa mahusay na pagganap bilang Teacher Emmy sa Balota, na certified box-office hit kasama ang Gulay Lang, Manong! at The Hearing.
Ka-tie niya si Gabby Padilla para sa Kono Basho (This Place) na shot entirely sa Rikuzentakata City sa Japan, na kung saan nakasama niya ang Japanese actress na si Arisa Nakano.
Ang nanalong best actor ay ang 15 years old na si Enzo Osorio para sa The Hearing ni Direk Lawrence “Law” Fajardo. Gumanap siya bilang 12-anyos na deaf-mute na ginahasa ng isang pari.

TATLONG Rated PG (Patnubay at Gabay ng Magulang) at ilang R-16 (Restricted 16) at R-18 (Restricted 18) na mga pelikula ang nakatakdang ipalabas sa mga sinehan ngayong linggo sa pahintulot ng Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Ayon kay MTRCB Chairperson at CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio, sa ilalim ng PG, maaaring manood ang mga edad labingtatlo (13) at pababa na kasama ang kanilang mga magulang o nakatatanda sa kanila.
Ang lokal na pelikulang “When the World Met Miss Probinsyana” ay may PG rating, sa takda nina MTRCB Board Members (BM) Jan Marini Alano, Racquel Maria Cruz, at Richard John Reynoso. Sinabi nila na ang pelikula ay naglalaman ng mga tema, eksena at aksyon na kakailanganin ang gabay ng magulang.
Ang Korean action movie na “Project Silence” ay nabigyan din ng PG rating nina Cruz, Reynoso, at Antonio Reyes. Sinabi nila na ang pelikula ay may marahas na paglalarawan at hindi pangkaraniwang mga salita na hindi angkop sa mga bata.
Ang pelikulang “Borderlands” mula sa Pioneer Films ay PG rin ayon kina BMs Cruz, Federico Moreno, at Lillian Ng Gui dahil ito’y naglalarawan ng ilang wika at eksena na kailangan ng gabay ng nakatatanda sa mga batang manunuod.
Samantala, nabigyan naman ng markang R-16 ang “It Ends With Us” mula sa Columbia Pictures Industries Inc. Ang R-16 ay para lamang sa mga edad 16 at pataas. Sinabi nina BMs Cruz, JoAnn Bañaga, at Wilma Galvante na ang materyal ay may grapikong paglalarawan ng karahasan at ilang sekswal na mga eksena.
Ang “Unang Tikim” ng Viva Communications, Inc., ay nabigyan ng R-16 at R-18. Ang R-18 ay para lamang sa mga edad 18 at pataas. Ayon kina BMs Gui, Juan Revilla, at Antonio Reyes, ang pelikula ay may mga sekswal na eksena na hindi akma sa mga menor-de-edad.
Sa R-16 namang “Unang Tikim,” sinabi nina BMs Galvante, Moreno, at Jerry Talavera na may grapikong eksenang sekswal ang pelikula, paglantad ng mga maselang parte ng katawan at mga salitang hindi angkop sa mga batang edad 15 at pababa.
Pinaalalahanan ni Chair Sotto-Antonio ang mga manonood na ang MTRCB Ratings system ay nagsisilbing gabay ng publiko tungo sa responsableng panunuod. Sinabi niyang sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalakas ng media literacy at responsableng panunuod, magiging matalino ang publiko sa pagsusuri ng mga angkop na pelikula para sa kanilang pamilya tungo sa isang makabuluhang Bagong Pilipinas.

CHANNING TATUM WAS THE ONLY CHOICE FOR THE MYSTERIOUS SLATER KING, SAYS DIRECTOR ZOË KRAVITZ FOR “BLINK TWICE”
TO play tech billionaire Slater King in her feature film directorial debut “Blink Twice,” Zoë Kravitz immediately wanted Channing Tatum.
At the time she didn’t know him, but she wanted to see him do something unlike anything he had ever done before, and thought he would be a perfect match for Slater. His naturally good-natured demeanor would lure the audience – and Frida (played by Naomi Ackie) – onto the film’s mysterious island.
In the psychological thriller “Blink Twice,” when tech billionaire Slater King (Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks immediately fly. He then invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. But as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.

When the script got into Tatum’s hands he found it both “exciting” and “terrifying.” Slater offered up a new challenge for him in that he would have to inhabit a person who was nothing like him. “Almost every dude I’ve ever played I’ve had some sort of connection to them,” he says. “There’s nothing really to love about Slater. There just isn’t, he’s a full psychopath.”
But Tatum was also intrigued by the possibility of doing something daring, and in Kravitz he found an eager collaborator in challenging himself. “We’ve talked about lots of different versions of Slater,” he says. “The one thing that we both agreed upon is that we didn’t want to do the, the very stereotypical movie moment in a thriller where you reveal the bad guy.”
Finding her Frida was a “whole other journey” for Kravitz. “It’s a hard part,” Kravitz says. “She’s many things at once. You kind of never really get a real handle on who she is. How manipulative is she? How unaware? Is she the villain? Is she the victim? There’s so many different elements to that character.”
Casting director Carmen Cuba offered up an option: Naomi Ackie, star of films like “Lady Macbeth” and “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Kravitz was not as familiar with Ackie’s work, but once she watched her projects like “Master of None” and “The End of the F***ing World” she was blown away. “I was like, ‘What a beast!’” Kravitz says. “And also her face is like so cinematic.”
Ackie remembers that what was supposed to be an initial chat with Kravitz turned into a two-hour conversation around the ideas of the film. “There was a lot that conversation brought up for me around the idea of the pursuit of power, about sexual assault, but also about Frida’s want for something more,” Ackie says. “Her relationship with the symbol of power that is Slater, how that affects her and that gives her blind spots to certain things. There’s many different things going on at the same time about how people are interacting with each other when it comes to these ideas of status and money, and they’re all abusing it in one way or another. We talked about Frida as quite an interesting, imperfect character, and how that made her a really interesting victim.”
In Tatum, Ackie found a supportive partner to play off. “I think there was an awareness for both of us that we were tapping into some really hard sh*t,” Ackie says. “His character as this awful guy who does really f***ing awful things, and my character as someone who is suffering from those awful things. Those aren’t easy, so we had to balance it with silliness and goofiness and making sure that everyone felt safe.”
Of Ackie, Tatum says she’s “probably one of the more talented people I’ve worked with.” He adds: “You walk into a scene and you’re like, man, this is kind of a hard scene. And she’ll just walk right through it. Like, not a problem at all.”

MAY forever pa rin!
Aba e, makalipas ang sampung taon ng kanilang relasyon, nag-propose na si Jerald Napoles kay Kim Molina.
At ang nakatutuwa pa, naganap ang engagement ng magsing-irog sa loob mismo ng PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) Theatre Center kung saan sila unang nagkita at nagkakilala.
Sa mga litrato ng dalawa na naka-post na sa social media, makikita si Jerald na nakaluhod habang nagpo-propose kay Kim, with matching sunflowers at fairy lights na background.
At siyempre naman, kitang-kita rin sa kanilang mga litrato ang tears of joy ni Kim dahil magiging Mrs. Napoles na siya.
Akala pala ni Kim ay mag magaganap lamang na pictorial, hindi niya akalain na aalukin na siya ng kasal ni Jerald, proposal na matagal na palang plano ni Jerald.
Bahagi ng speech ni Jerald para sa nobya at soon-to-be misis, “On this stage, exactly ten years, two months, and five days ago, we met for the first time without knowing each other.
“Saudi girl and Tondo boy, nag-duet agad tayo nang hindi man lang tayo nag-uusap, doon tayo nagkakilala.
“So this stage gave me a lot of things in my life.

Actor Ryan Reynolds, along with his mother Tammy Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, made an appearance at the New York premiere of It Ends With Us, to support Reynolds’s wife Blake Lively who stars as the main character Lily Bloom. They also unexpectedly dropped in during the cast interviews and did an unscheduled surprise interview with Brandon Sklenar, who plays Lively’s onscreen love interest, Atlas Corrigan.

Sklenar was wrapping up an interview with another journalist when Reynolds entered, taking a seat at the interviewer’s chair and playfully grilling Sklenar on his role with Lively. His mom Tammy Reynolds and Hugh Jackman also took their turns questioning Sklenar, teasing him about replacing Ryan Reynolds as Lively’s husband.

INANUNSYO ng ‘It’s Showtime’ host na si Karylle ang pagpanaw ng kanyang ama na si Modesto Tatlonghari.
Sa isang Instagram post, ipinakita ni Karylle ang ilang larawan sa simbahan at ang misang isinagawa para sa yumaong ama.
Inalala rin ni Karylle ang pagmamahal ng ama sa kanyang madamdaming mensahe.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dad, Papa M, Doc, Dr. ‘M,’ Moy, Tito M… He was a beloved man who lived life fully. Always a presence in a room, while also making sure everyone felt seen and heard. He, too, was always seen and heard with his handsome “cute” face, youthful porma, and booming voice,” sulat ni Karylle.
Pagpapatuloy niya, “He was a great guy, always brightening up people’s days. A Baguio boy (and Laguna lad!) at heart and topnotcher at the dental board, he loved basketball and his no-look shot.

INARESTO ang American rapper na si Nelly ng Missouri State Highway Patrol sa Maryland Heights na malapit sa hometown niya sa St. Louis.
He was arrested for possession of four ecstasy pills and a lack of car insurance.
Ayon sa report ng Extra: “Nelly was arrested at the Hollywood Casino, adding that he was taken into custody for failure to appear on an old traffic charge.”
Ang mugshot ng 49-year old rapper ay nag-trend sa social media. Naganap ang pag-aresto kay Nelly pagkatapos lumabas na sikteto silang kinasal ng singer-girlfriend niyang si Ashanti. Kinasal sila noong December 27, 2023 at kasalukuyang buntis ito.
The baby will be Ashanti’s first child and Nelly’s third. Ama si Nelly sa 29-year old daughter na si Chanelle at 24-year old son Cornell with ex-wife, Channetta Valentine.

LAST Saturday August 10 ay ginanap sa Archivo 1984 sa Chino Roces sa Makati ang first ever “Vilma Night.”
Ito rin marahil ang kauna-unahang sort of exhibit ng mga memorabilia o mga larawan, posters na kuha sa mga nagawang pelikula ng isang icon ng Philippine showbiz.
Siyempre dumalo si Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos-Recto na very much happy sa isa-isa niyang nakikitang posters at mga larawan mula sa more or less 300 movies na nagawa niya.
Mga memorable films kagaya ‘Sister Stela L’ to ‘Burlesk Queen’ at kasama pa rin produced ng kanyang VS Films na ‘Pagputi ng Uwak, Pag itim ng Tagak’ at ‘Mga Rosas sa Putikan.”

“Appendicitis suddenly hit during my flight back to Manila.”
At kahapon, August 11 at sa kanyang Facebook accounts, muling nag-post si Darren kasama ng mga photos.
“What a plot twist! Life update:
“Akala ko sa trabaho ako de-deretso pagka-land namin. Hindi pala. Was so ready to be back on ‘It’s Showtime’ but the universe had other plans,” panimula niya.
Pagkukuwento pa niya sa nangyari, “From the airport to the hospital. Woke up on the plane from Los Angeles at around 1 AM (Manila Time) and felt a bit of pain in my stomach. Didn’t mind it and thought I was just super hungry. We landed 4 hours later and the pain got worse once I got into the car.
“Thought it was just gas but the pain became unbearable. I asked to be taken to the nearest hospital from my house and they had me take a CT Scan right away. Found out I had appendicitis and had to get an appendectomy immediately. Thankfully, my appendix hadn’t ruptured yet. Went to our doctor at St. Luke’s and I had a laparoscopy all within 5 hours of everything happening!”
Dagdag pa niya, “Thank you to my family and friends who visited and sent gifts! Thank you, Darrenatics! Y’all made me feel so loved.
“Finally discharged and hope to get back to work soon! I’d like to apologize to the commitments I had to cancel because of this. Thank you po for understanding.”
Mababasa rin ang caption niya sa bawat photo, na kung saan nakatanggap siya ng flowers and fruits na mula na kanyang fans, ‘It’s Showtime, Star Magic at kanyang ini-endorse.
Pati ang pagdalaw ng malalapit sa kanya tulad nina Gela, Luigi at si Angela na sa ibang branch ng hospital kaya ‘di sila nagkita.
Muling bumuhos ang mga mensahe sa kanyang post, at patuloy na pinagdarasal ang mabilis niyang paggaling.
