Prophecy of an Apocalypse Forces Family to Give Up a Life in M. Night Shyamalan’s “Knock at the Cabin

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments
ACCLAIMED filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan’s latest and most anticipated horror film “Knock at the Cabin” to open in local theaters on February 1 features an impressive cast of actors led by Dave Bautista along with Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Rupert Grint, newcomer Kristin Cui, Abby Quinn and Nikki Amuka-Bird.

“Knock at the Cabin” centers on a gay couple, Eric (Groff) and Andrew (Aldridge) and their adopted daughter Wen (Cui), who are vacationing at a remote cabin in the woods, when their house is surrounded by four armed strangers: Leonard (Bautista), Sabrina (Bird), Adrianne (Quinn) and Redmond (Grint.) Taken hostage, the family is informed that these four strangers—who also do not know each other—have all been haunted and tormented by a shared prophecy: that the world will end unless the family in this cabin chooses one member of the family to die.

Fil-Am actor and former wrestling champion, Bautista, also known for his roles in successive blockbuster films “Guardians of the Galaxy”, “Army of the Dead” and “Suicide Squad” takes on the role of Leonard in “Knock at the Cabin.” As Leonard and the designated leader of the group of four mysterious strangers, Bautista thinks that the role is an opportunity of a lifetime.  “This is what I’ve been waiting for because roles like this don’t get offered to me. Typically, everybody wants me for action stuff, and I understand why they want to put me in that box. But I’ve been fighting to get out of that box. I wanted deeper roles because I want to prove myself as an actor,” enthuses Bautista.  One of the main messages behind Knock at the Cabin is sacrifice and not putting a definition on what love looks like. “Love takes all kinds of shapes and forms and comes from places you wouldn’t expect,” Bautista further says. “I hate to be cliché, but it can save the world.”

The role of Leonard is complex and layered, according to director Shyamalan. “Leonard is like a giant who’s physically intimidating and has to do these horrific things, but is actually incredibly gentle, like a teacher,” Shyamalan says. “And Dave is this character. He is this childlike giant. He’s very smart and is incredibly analytical about human nature—almost like a child. He can panic in a way, like a child, in the most beautiful way. And I wanted all of that on screen.”

Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint continues to solidify his filmography in his latest role in the movie as Redmond. “There’s something quite seductive about apocalypse movies,” Grint says. “Rarely has been it explored in such a confined, remote, intimate setting, which. And my role as Redmond is a character who’s also kind of in reform. He’s got a shady past, and suddenly, he’s hit with this huge burden and decision to make. He’s very aggressive, and still has a lot of anger he’s struggling with .” Grint was also fascinated with the story because it taps into a lot of the topical fears that surround us right now. “We’re just coming out of a global pandemic,” Grint says. “There’s an environmental crisis in the world that has never felt more fragile. So that kind of impending fear of the demise of the planet is something that’s in a lot of people’s minds at the moment.”

Shyamalan is eager for audiences to see the depth and nuance of Grint’s performance. “Rupert is the rare actor that reinvented himself as an adult,” Shyamalan says. “He took all those child-actor experiences—didn’t eat himself up—and turned it into wonderful techniques and opportunities for his adult acting journey. I’m really excited for everybody to see what he’s capable of and to continue finding stories for him.

A Universal Pictures International presentation, “Knock at the Cabin” opens February 1 in cinemas nationwide.

Sen.

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

(Gene Adsuara)

Metro Manila mayors OK single ticketing system

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“The Metro Manila mayors gave their go-signal for the implementation of the unified ticketing system. There was a motion for approval. It was duly seconded and there was no objection,” wika ni MMC chairman at Sa Juan mayor Francis Zamora.

“Under the single ticketing system, traffic violators will pay a standard amount regardless of the location where the traffic violations were committed,” dagdag ni Zamora.

“The STS will establish uniform and clear guidelines for violations like disregarding traffic signs, illegal parking (attended and unattended), reckless driving, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle, overspeeding, illegal counterflow, number coding violations at obstruction,” saad ni Zamora.

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“The December 2022 Hunger figure is slightly above the 11.3% (estimated 2.89 million families) in October 2022 and 11.6% (estimated 2.95 million families) in June 2022,” wika nila.

“The 0.5-point increase in Overall Hunger between October 2022 and December 2022 was due to increases in the Visayas and Balance Luzon, combined with decreases in Metro Manila and Mindanao.”

Mindanao: 12.7%

Visayas: 12%

Metro Manila: 11.7%

Balance Luzon: 11.3%

moderate hunger: 9.5% o 2.4 milyong pamilya

severe hunger: 2.3% o 599,000 pamilya

“The rate of Overall Hunger (i.e., Moderate plus Severe) rose among the Non-Poor (Not Poor plus Borderline Poor) from 6.7% in October 2022 to 7.8% in December 2022,” dagdag pa ng SWS.

“However, it fell slightly among the Self-Rated Poor, from 16.0% to 15.7%.”

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Bilang tugon, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na  “I think to an extent but not – because the belief is that first of all, there is no point in the Philippines building up its armory.”

“More importantly, perhaps is our abiding belief that the solutions are not going to be military,” ayon sa Pangulo.

Ani Pangulong Marcos, “resorting to militaristic solutions will “end badly for everyone involved and even those who are not involved.”

“I think all of us were quite surprised, especially us in the Philippines, to think that a war in Eastern Europe would affect agriculture in the Philippines and I guess it just goes to show how well connected that is,” ani Pangulong Marcos.

“If a similar situation would arise in the region, then I would say it would be disastrous for the rest of the world as well, not only for the region but for the rest of the world,” wika pa ni Pangulong Marcos. (Daris Jose)

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Caption pa niya: “Our Philippine trip is coming to an end. Last month @spiesmj and I went to explore Bohol without Lukas. Thanks to our parents who looked after Lukas. Martin wanted to do all the activities kaya napilitan na din ako.

“We went to see the Chocolate Hills, drove ATVs (swipe left to see the aftermath!), visited the man made forest and took the scooter and discovered a beach hut. We met the owner of Iya Tinay and they gave me a painting that I can take back to London (so sweet!). We also met the beautiful ladies of Loboc River Resort (thank you for sharing your testimony after the typhoon hit your city), and the kuya + his kalabaw stopping for a photo.”

“Sending my love to the cast of @lesmizofficial UK tour! I am so thankful to be part of this incredible company for 6 months last year! Lukas loves you too. Enjoy today, I’m sure it will be an emotional one,” caption pa ni Rachelle.

Contribution hike, sinimulan na ng SSS

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“It is the right thing to do for the institution and its members. The contribution hike will benefit the workers with the SSS being able to provide a financially viable social protection system to Filipino workers and their families. It will not be a burden on workers but will be shouldered by employers. Workers earning less than P25,000 per month, who comprise 78 percent of SSS-paying employee members, will not be affected,” pahayag ni Macasaet.

Si Macasaet ay dating President at General Manager ng Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) noong Duterte administration at itinalaga ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos sa SSS noong January 5.

“The contribution hike will not be paid by the lowly worker but by financially-stable employers who can afford such adjustments. I am appealing to the PCCI, the ECOP, and the PECI, who we consider our valuable partners in our mission to provide social protection to our workers, to treat the contribution hike not as another operational expense but as a noble investment to ensure the viability of the workers’ pension fund,” dagdag ni Macasaet.

Posted on: January 23rd, 2023 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“This budgetary allocation seeks to support the construction, rehabilitation, and improvement of the country’s transportation infrastructure, particularly in the aviation sector. This is in line with the mandate of President Bongbong Marcos to put prime importance in enhancing our country’s transportation system,” ayon sa Kalihim.

“When we say transport infrastructure development, this does not only mean building or improving railways or road transport. It also means the improvement and rehabilitation of airports,” ang wika ni Pangandaman

“That is why, for 2023, we made sure that various airports in different regions across the country would be getting their needed funds, as their development will propel growth in different sectors, such as trade, employment, and tourism,” dagdag na pahayag ni Pangandaman. (Daris Jose)
