Pagdami ng mga kaso ng COVID-19 sa NCR, hindi dahil sa eleksyon – OCTA

NILINAW ng OCTA Research group na ang mas maraming transmissible Omicron subvariants COVID-19 ang dahilan ng bahagyang pagtaas ng mga kaso ng nasabing sakit sa Metro Manila.

Sa isang pahayag, binigyang-diin ni OCTA research fellow Dr. Guido David na hindi ito dahil sa mga aktibidad na inilunsad noong panahon ng eleksyon.

Aniya, bagamat kaliwa’t kanan ang mga campaign rallies at sorties na nilalahukan ng maraming tao noong kampanya ay wala raw silang nakitang anuman epekto nito o pagtaas man sa bilang ng mga kaso ng nasabing sakit.

Samantala, sa kabila naman ng pagdami ng mga kaso nito sa rehiyon ay ipinalagay naman ni David na hindi na ito lalagpas pa sa 10,000 ang bilang ng mga kaso nito sa rehiyon.

Patuloy pa rin naman ang kanyang panawagan sa publiko na magpabakuna na at booster shot bilang dagdag na proteksyon laban sa naturang sakit at gayundin ang patuloy na pagsunod sa mga ipinatutupad na health and safety protocols sa bansa. (Daris Jose)

MASAYANG-MASAYA ngayon ang StarStruck Season 7 Ultimate Female Survivor na si Shayne Sava dahil nasimulan na raw ang bahay na ipinapagawa niya para sa kanyang pamilya.

Panahon na raw na magkaroon na sila ng sariling bahay pagkatapos ng mahabang panahon na pag-rent ng bahay.

“Ayun po ‘yung isa sa very kinikilig ako kasi finally mayroon na ‘kong sariling bahay. Siyempre, pinapagawa pa po ngayon so hindi pa po kami makakalipat. Pero ayun po, very thankful po talaga ako sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa akin,” sey ni Shayne na naging breadwinner ng kanyang pamilya.

Inipon daw ni Shayne ang mga talent fees niya mula sa mga projects niya kaya matutupad na ang matagal niyang pangarap sa pamilya.

“Ito po ‘yung mga naipon ko na sa mga projects. ‘Yung napanalunan ko po sa StarStruck, nagamit ko na ‘yun during pandemic kasi siyempre walang work, natengga tayo for ilang months,” sey pa niya.

Napapanood si Shayne sa GMA Afternoon Prime series na Raising Mamay kasama ang veteran actress na si Ai-Ai delas Alas. Kahit daw nasa ibang bansa si Ai-Ai, tuluy-tuloy lang daw ang communication nila.

“Binibigyan niya po ako ng fruits kasi parehas po kaming mahilig sa mga prutas. Parang nanay po talaga siya sa akin. Until now, nagkukumustahan kaming dalawa. Sobrang thankful po talaga ko na nakilala si Mamay in person,” pahayag pa ni Shayne.

NAG-CELEBRATE si Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen ng India ng kanyang 28th anniversary bilang kauna-unahang Indian beauty na manalo ng Miss Universe crown.

May 21, 1994 noong koronahan si Sushmita sa Pilipinas kunsaan ginanap ang Miss Universe pageant at tinalo niya ang higit sa 77 contestants from different countries.

Nag-post ng throwback photo si Sushmita sa Twitter na may caption na: “Beautiful is a feeling. Happy 28 years of India winning Miss Universe for the very first time!! Time flies…Beauty remains!!”

Isang fan page naman ang nag-post ng ilang photos at video nang pagpanalo ni Sushmita noong 1994 sa Pilipinas.

May caption ito na: “21.05.94… Dearesssstttt Titu Dede Happy 28th Anniversary!!! You make us sooooo proud!!! Our tribe sooooo proud!!! And, our country sooooo proud!!! I love you!!”

Hinding-hindi makakalimutan ng mga Pinoy si Sushmita dahil sa ganda’t talino nito. Sa katunayan ay maraming sinilang na sanggol noong panahon na iyon ay pinangalan ay Sushmita.

After Sushmita, dalawang beauty queens from India ang nagwagi rin ng Miss Universe title. Ito ay sina Lara Dutta (2000) at Harnaaz Sandhu (2021).

Kasalukuyang nagtatrabaho bilang film and TV actress si Sushmita sa India. May dalawa siyang adopted kids at na-diagnose siya with Addison’s disease na required siyang mag-take ng lifelong steroids drugs.

NAGBABALIK sa TV ang Queen of Latin Music na si Shakira.

May dance competition show siya titled Dance With Myself kunsaan kasama niya si Nick Jonas at Liza Koshy. Mag-premiere ito sa NBC on May 31.

Naging inspiration ng Dance With Myself at ang Tiktok dahil sa mataas na energy ng mga gumagawa ng videos. Sa naturang dance competition, may sariling pod sa stage ang mga contestants at bibigyan sila ng time para pag-aralan ang isang dance routine. Kapag nag-perform na sila onstage, may sarili silang version ng dance routine na dapat ma-impress ang judges.

Ang mapipiling best dancer of the night ay mag-uuwi ng malaking cash prize.

Sey ni Shakira: “I think it’s a show for everybody, not only for professionals. Most of the contestants who participated… they just enjoy dancing and want to share their passion for it. They wanna express themselves, and I think this show is gonna be an excellent platform for that.”

Sey naman ni Nick: “I think the thing for me that was so special about this was just watching people being given this opportunity to do what they love where the stakes are high. Sure, it’s a competition, but it’s really just about expressing yourself and having fun, which is really what dance should be.”

Nag-lielow sa TV si Shakira noong 2015 pagkatapos niyang isilang ang second son niyang si Sasha. Huli siyang napanood sa Season 6 ng The Voice bilang isa sa mga coach kasama sina Nick, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine at Usher.

BBM CAMP: 99.93% accuracy rate ng manual count nagpapakita ng totoong kagustuhan ng tao

ANG 99.93 percent vote accuracy rate mula sa lumabas na random manual audit (RMA) ay ang patunay na nagdesisyon na ang mga Pilipino at ang kanilang kagustuhan ay dapat respetuhin, ayon sa kampo ni incoming President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos nitong Lunes.

Ayon kay incoming Executive Secretary Atty. Vic Rodriguez, ang random manual audit ng boto ay nagpapakita na ang mga digitally transmitted election results ay kahalintulad ng mga botong nakasulat sa mga balota.

“We welcome the results of the random manual audit of votes that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported out. We believe that the high accuracy rate proves that the recent elections were not marred by fraud as some sectors have been claiming. The RMA results should erase any doubt regarding the election results. The people have spoken and they have chosen presumptive President-elect Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos to be the country’s 17th president,” sabi ni Rodriguez.

Base sa random manual audit of votes nitong nagdaang 2022 elections, 99.93% ang overall accuracy matapos 128 sa 757 sa randomly selected clustered polling precincts ang nasuri na.

Dagdag pa ni Comelec Commissioner George Garcia ang ulat na 99.97% accuracy rate ay para sa presidential elections, habang 99.96% ang para sa vice-presidential race, at 99.97% naman sa senatorial at party-list polls.

Ang random manual audit ay pinangunahan ng Comelec, at mga poll watchdogs gaya ng LENTE, na asosasyon ng mga certified public accountants, at kasama din nila ang Philippine Statistics Authority.

Ito ay ginagawa upang suriin ang mga vote counting machines at masigurong tama ang pagkakabilang sa mga balota.

Muling nananawagan si Rodriguez sa mga sektor at grupo na nagbibigay ng pagdududa sa publiko kaugnay sa resulta ng halalan na tigilan na ang kanilang ginagawa at hayaang makapaglingkod ang susunod na administrasyon.

“I appeal to those who keep on pursuing this divisiveness, the people have spoken. The Filipino people have spoken and an overwhelming majority has voted President-elect Bongbong Marcos and Vice President-elect Inday Sara Duterte into office as President and Vice President. Learn to respect the will of the Filipino people,” sabi pa niya.

CHR ukol sa drug war report “No malice, we did our mandate”

PINANINDIGAN ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) ang report nito na mayroong paggamit ng “excessive force” laban sa drug suspects at maraming biktima ang di umano’y tumanggi ang nauwi sa pagkamatay na karamihan ay mula sa marginalized communities.

“Contrary to remarks that seek to put malice in the crucial work of CHR, our guide has always been the mandate bestowed unto us by the 1987 Constitution and the plight of the vulnerable people we serve,” ayon kay CHR executive director, Atty. Jacqueline de Guia.

Sinabi ng komisyon na ito’y “consistently endeavored” na maging “collaborative and non-adversarial in the defense of human rights.”

“In line with our mandate, we provide recommendations and advice to the government for the improvement of the human rights situation and to address human rights violations with the interest of the people in mind, particularly the most vulnerable ones,” ayon kay De Guia.

Ipinalabas naman ng CHR kamakailan ang “Final Report on Investigated Killings in Relation to the Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign,” na nakumpleto ng Extrajudicial Killings Task Force sa pangunguna ni dating commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana.

Sinabi ni De Guia na ang tatlong final na nagpalakas ng findings na “there is a consistent narrative by law enforcers alleging victims initiated aggression or resisted arrest; that there is use of excessive and disproportionate force; that targeted victims were mostly civilians killed in uninhabited locations sustaining gunshot wounds in the heads and/or torso; that there is non-cooperation by the police; and that there is a lack of effective, prompt, and transparent accountability mechanism to address the drug-related killings.” (Daris Jose)

Knights pupuntiryahin ang ‘three-peat’ sa NCAA Season 98

WALANG ibang puntirya ang Letran Knights kundi ang ‘three-peat’ sa susunod na NCAA Season 98 men’s basketball tournament sa Setyembre.

Kinumpleto ng Knights ang 12-game sweep matapos dominahin ang Mapua Cardinals sa NCAA Finals para angkinin ang kanilang back-to-back championship sa Season 97 noong Linggo.

Unang kinopo ng Letran ang dalawang sunod na titulo noong 1998 at 1999.

“Babalik ako na kapag nag-start iyong practice namin. Kailangan ko na lang is i-improve iyong kulang ko,” sabi ni Rookie of the Year at Most Valuable Player Rhenz Abando sa kanilang asam na ‘three-peat’.

Tanging sina center Jeo Ambohot, forward Christian Fajarito at guard Allen Mina ang mawawala sa lineup ng Knights ni head coach Bonnie Tan sa susunod na season.

Ang pagkopo sa korona ng Season 97 ang sinabi ni Tan na pinakamahirap.

Ito ay dahil sa coronavirus disease (COVID-19) kung saan napuwersa ang NCAA na kanselahin ang Season 96 bago naituloy ang Season 97 noong Abril sa isang bubble setup.

“Mahirap itong pandemic na liga coming from more than two years na bakante,” sabi ni Tan, ang team manager ng NorthPort Batang Pier sa PBA.

LTFRB nagbukas ng 106 PUV routes para sa libreng sakay

NAGBUKAS ang Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) ng 106 na public utility vehicles (PUVs) na ruta sa Metro Manila at Rizal para sa libreng sakay ng mga pasahero.

Ang mga nasabing PUV na ruta na may libreng sakay ay ang nasa lugar ng Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Makati, Manila, Malabon, Marikina, Muntinlupa Navotas, Pasig, Quezon City, Taguig, Pasay, Pasig at Cainta sa Rizal.

Kasama rin ang libreng sakay ng mga PUV na ruta mula sa North Luzon Express Terminal (NLET) at Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) papuntang mga lungsod sa Metro Manila.

“More PUV routes will be opened in the coming days to offer free rides to commuters,” wika ng LTFTB.

Ang nasabing programa ay sa ilalim ng service contracting para sa mga PUV drivers at operators kung saan sila ay magbibigay ng libreng sakay sa mga pasahero. Ang mga drivers at operators ay bibigyan ng compensation ng pamahalaan based sa number ng trips na nilakbay ng mga PUV kada isang linggo.

Noong nakaraang buwan ay inilungsad ng LTFRB ang ikatlong bahagi ng programa sa service contracting na may 510 PUVs na units ang may operasyon para sa EDSA bus carousel at ibang pang selected na ruta sa Metro Manila.

May tinatayang 49 million na mga pasahero ang naka avail ng libreng sakay hanggang noong April 11.

“The Service Contracting Program also aims to provide financial support to transport service providers and workers through a performance-based payout system. Under the program, drivers and operators will be paid by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) based on the maximum based on the maximum trips made per week, with or without passengers and in compliance with the agreed-upon performance indicators,” wika ni DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade.

Ang programa ay may pondong P7 billion para sa Phase 3 ng Service Contracting kung saan ang Department of Budget and Management (DBM) ay nagbigay na ng pondo noong March 22 at na download na sa LTFRB noong March 23.

Ayon sa DOTr, ang programa ay tatagal hanggang katapusan ng taon o di kaya ay hanggang may natitirang pondo na nakalaan dito na gagamitin hanggang hindi pa ubos ang pondo.

Sinabi ni Tugade na malaking tulong ito para sa mga drivers at operators lalo na ngayon na patuloy na tumataas ang presyo ng krudo at produktong petrolyo. Dahil sa programa ito ay magiging tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang Libreng Sakay kung saan ang mga pasahero ay hindi na kailangan pa na magbayad ng pamasahe.

Sa ilalim ng programang service contracting, ang PUV operators ay bibigyan ng one-time incentive na P5,000 kada unit bilang “pre-operating costs” habang ang operational incentives ay ibibigay kada linggo.

Ang programang ito ay inilungsad sa ilalim ng Republic Act 11494 o ang tinatawag na Bayanihan To Recover as One Act kung saan ito ay naglalayon na magbigay ng pansamantalang kabuhayan sa mga mangagawa sa sektor ng transportasyon sa gitna ng pandemya.

“The latest implementation of the program was included in the General Appropriation Act (GAA) for the Fiscal Year 2022 and aims to ensure efficient and safe operations of PUVs, provide financial support to transport operators and workers, and sustain support to Filipino workers and commuters,” dagdag ni Tugade. 31st Southeast Asian Games pormal nang nagsara sa isang makulay at magarbong programa

MAKALIPAS ang mahigit dalawang linggo, pormal na ring isinara kagabi doon sa Hanoi, Vietnam ang 31st Southeast Asian Games sa isang makulay at magarbong programa.

Isinagawa ang selebrasyon sa indoor sports complex ng Vietnam na may capacity na 3,000 katao.

Ito ay sinabayan naman ng pagbuhos ng ulan sa labas ng venue.

Mas maliit na ang naturang bilang kumpara sa opening ceremony na halos magsiksikan ang libu-libong mga atleta sa My Dinh stadium.

Ang delegasyon ngayon ng Pilipinas na pumang-apat na puwesto sa final medal tally, ay naiwan na lamang ang kakarampot na grupo ni chef de mission at Phil. Sports Commission Commissioner Ramon Fernandez dahil ang bulto ng mga Pinoy athletes ay nakabalik na ng Pilipinas.

Hindi na rin pumarada ang mga atleta sa seremonyas kagabi.

Idineklara naman ni Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ang pagtatapos na ng Games at pagdedeklara bilang pinakamatagumpay sa kabila na na-delay ito na noon pa sanang nakaraang taon pero naging matindi ang COVID pandemic.

Samantala, pormal na ring na-turn over ang responsibilidad ng 32nd edition ng SEA Games ng 11 mga bansa kung saan gaganapin naman ito isang taon mula ngayon doon sa bansang Cambodia.

HIHINTAYIN muna ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang pagdedeklara ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso para sa vacancy sa puwesto ni Cavite Congressman Crispin “Boying” Remulla.

Sa Laging Handa public briefing, sinabi ni COMELEC Commissioner George Garcia na dalawang opsyon ang nakikita nila para mapunan ang maiiwang congressional seat ni Remulla kasunod ng pagtanggap nito sa alok na maging DOJ secretary sa Marcos Administration.

Una na aniya rito ay ang pagsasagawa ng special elections ngunit mangangailangan pa aniya ng batas ukol dito.

Maaari rin naman sa kabilang banda na magtalaga na lang ang Speaker of the House ng care taker sa distrito na pdeng aktuhan ng isang congressman mula sa kalapit na distrito o di kaya ay nasa discretion na mismo ng House speaker kung sino ang ilalagay na care taker

Laguesma, Ople, Balisacan kasama sa gabinete ni Marcos Jr.

TINANGGAP ng tatlong indibidwal ang alok sa kanila na maging bahagi ng incoming Cabinet ni presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Sinabi ni Atty. Vic Rodriguez, tagapagsalita ni Marcos Jr., na tinanggap ni dating Labor secretary Bienvenido “Benny” Laguesma ang alok na pamunuan ang Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at overseas Filipino worker advocate Susan “Toots” Ople para pamunuan naman ang Department of Migrant Workers.

“Yes, they both accepted their nomination,” ayon kay Rodriguez.

Si Laguesma, naging pinuno ng DOLE sa panahon ng Estrada administration, habang si Ople naman ay dating labor undersecretary sa panahon ng administrasyong Arroyo.

Samantala, ibabalik naman ni Marcos Jr., si Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) chair Arsenio Balisacan para pamunuan ang National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), tinanggap na ni Balisacan ang nasabing alok sa kanya.

Si Balisacan ay nagsilbi bilang director general ng NEDA sa ilalim ng namayapang dating Pangulong Benigno Aquino III.

“I’ve asked him to return to NEDA. I’ve worked with him extensively at the time when I was governor, we have very similar thinking in that regard kaya’t malakas ang loob ko, I know he’s very competent, I know his policies are policies that will be for the betterment of our country,” ayon kay Marcos Jr.

Si Balisacan, sa kabilang dako ay nagpahayag na sasama siya sa bagong gabinete matapos na pamunuan nito ng anim na taon ang PCC, “mindful of the immense work needed to accelerate economic recovery and post-recovery development.”
