Wala ng libreng sakay sa EDSA busway

MAGBABAYAD na ang mga pasahero ng EDSA busway matapos na hindi na palawigin ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) ang pagkakaroon ng libreng sakay kung saan may mahigit na 400,00 na pasahero kada araw ang sumakay noong nakaraang taon.

Pinag-aaralan ng DOTr na kung maaari ay ibigay nasa pribadong sektor ang pamamahala ng P551 million na infrastructure ngayon 2023.

“The EDSA busway system would be turned over to the private sector this year, leaving its future operator the task of managing it and the benefit of profiting as well. Several groups have relayed their interest to vie for the concessions on the EDSA busway, compelling the DOTr to prepare the terms of reference for the privatization,” wikaniDOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista.

Dagdag pa ni Bautista na walang pagkakataon pa na ma-extend ang programa lagpas ang Jan. 2023. Ayon sa kanya, ang mga pasahero ay magbabayad na ng P15 minimum fare sa pagsakay ng EDSA carousel.

Diniin din ni Bautista na hindi na kaya ng DOTr ang gumastos ng P12 million kada araw upang ma-subsidize lamang ang libreng sakay lalo na ngayon na nagtitipid ang pamahalaan upang mabawasan ang budget deficit.

Ngayon 2023, ang DOTr ay makakuha ng P1.2 billion na pondo para sa service contracting program (SCP) kung saan ang Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) ay magbibigay ng financial support sa mga transport service providers at workers sa pamamagitan ng performance-based payout system.

“Under the program, drivers and operators will be paid by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) based on the maximum based on the maximum trips made per week, with or without passengers and in compliance with the agreed-upon performance indicators,”dagdag ni Bautista.

Subalit, ang nasabing pondo ay hindi lamang gagamitin sa EDSA buses kasama rin ang lahat ng mga public utility vehicles (PUVs) sa lahat ng rehiyon upang masiguro na ang mga commuters sa rural areas ay makakuha rin ng benipisyo mula sal ibreng sakay.

Sinabi naman ni Senator Sonny Angara na maaari naman na ipagpatuloy ang PUV SCP dahil binigyan ito ng P2.16 billion mula sa General Appropriations Act of 2023 upang masiguro na maipagpatuloy ang programa. May P1.285 billion ang nasa ilalim ng unprogrammed appropriations at mayroon pa na P875 million ang nakalagay sa unprogrammed appropriations.

May plano ang DOTr na magtalaga pa rin ng 600 hanggang 650 buses sa EDSA carousel mula sa 750 na buses noong 2022. Inaasahan na baba na ang mga pasahero dahil maghahanap na sila kung saan sila makakamura ng pamasahe tulad ng MRT 3 at iba pang rail lines.

Bigtime drug pusher, tiklo sa P16 milyon shabu sa Malabon

NASABAT ng mga awtoridad ang mahigit P16 milyon halaga ng shabu sa isa umanong notoryus drug pusher na listed bilang High-Value Individual (HVI) matapos maaresto sa buy bust operation sa Malabon City.

Pinuri ni Northern Police District (NPD) District Director PBGEN Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr, ang Malabon police sa pamumuno ni P/Col. Amante Daro sa matagumpay na kampanya kontra ilegal na droga na nagresulta sa pagkakaaresto sa suspek na kinilala bilang si Noel Herrera alyas “Toto”, 56 ng Maragarita St. Brgy. Niugan.

Nakumpiska sa suspek ang humigi’t kumulang 2 kilos at 380 grams ng hinihinalang shabu na may standard drug price value Php 16,184,000.00, buy bust money na dalawang pirasong P1,000 bills na may kasamang boodle money, digital weighing scale at driver’s license.

Sa ulat ni Col. Amante kay BGen. Peñones, unang nakatanggap ang mga operatiba ng Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) ng Malabon police hinggil sa pagbebenta umano ng suspek ng shabu kaya’t ikinasa ng mga operatiba ang buy bust operation sa pangunguna ni PLT Alexander Dela Cruz sa Pureza Street, Brgy. Tugatog kung saan isang undercover police ang nagawang makipagtransaksyon kay Herrera.

Nang matanggap ang pre-arrange signal mula sa pulis poseur-buyer na hudyat na nakabili na siya ng shabu sa suspek ay agad lumapit ang back-up na operatiba saka sinunggaban si Herrera.

Posibilidad na ‘external threat’ ang sanhi sa New Year’s Day glitch sa NAIA kasama sa iniimbestigahan – DOTr

KABILANG sa iniimbestigahan ngayon ng Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Aerodrome and Air Navigation Safety Oversight Office (AANSOO) ang posibilidad na “external threat” ang dahilan sa nangyaring technical glitch sa NAIA na naging sanhi sa total shutdown ng operasyon ng paliparan at pagkansela sa mahigit 300 mga international at domestic flights at nasa nasa 65,000 pasahero ang naapektuhan.

Ayon kay Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista hindi nito inaalis ang posibilidad ng panlabas na pag-atake sa Air Traffic Control System ng Pilipinas.

Sinabi ni Bautista lahat ng posibilidad ay pakatutukan ng probe team.

Aniya may mga ispekulasyong nagsilabasan subalit ni isa dito ay hindi nila makumpirma sa ngayon.

Pagtiyak ng kalihim gagawin nila ang lahat para hindi na maulit pa ang nasabing insidente.

Sa kabilang dako, nanindigan si Bautista na ang nangyaring technical glitch nuong new years day ay dahil sa outdated facilities na kailangan na talagang palitan ng modernong facilities.

Aminado si Bautista na 10 taon ang layo ng airport ng Pilipinas kumpara sa mga paliparan ng ibang bansa na mga modernong kagamitan na ang ginagamit.

Personal na nagsagawa ng inspeksyon ang kalihim upang alamin ang sitwasyon sa paliparan at matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga pasahero.

Siniguro ni Secretary Bautista na lahat ng apektadong pasahero na nakansela o na-delay ang flights ay maayos ang kalagayan at maibibigay ang anumang tulong na kanilang kailangan.

Tinungo din ni Secretary Bautista ang CAAP kung saan kaniyang inalam ang sanhi ng nangyaring aberya sa Air Traffic Control System na nag-resulta sa pagkakabalam ng mga biyahe sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport. (Daris Jose)

Malakanyang, ipinag-utos ang suspensyon ng pagtataas sa insurance premiums ng PhilHealth, pagtataas sa sahod

IPINAG-UTOS ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. ang suspensyon ng bagong premium contribution rates ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) at ang income ceiling para ngayong taon ng 2023.

Ang katuwiran ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, patuloy pa rin kasing nakikipagpambuno ang mga Filipino sa mga economic challenges sanhi ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Base sa dokumentong ipinalabas sa mga mamamahayag, sinabi ni Bersamin na gusto ni Pangulong Marcos na suspendihin ang nakatakdang pagtataas sa premium rate ng PhilHealth mula 4% ay magiging 4.5% na.

Sa joint statement, kapuwa welcome naman sa Department of Health (DOH) at PhilHealth ang desisyon ni Pangulong Marcos.

“The DOH and PhilHealth recognize the suspension is intended to help our kababayans cope with the increasing prices of commodities caused by inflation,” ayon sa DoH at PhilHealth.

Ang paliwanag ng DoH, ang premium contributions ay kinokolekta ng PhilHealth para tustusan ang ekspansyon o pagpapalawak sa benepisyo alinsunod sa Universal Health Care law.

Idinagdag pa nito na ang pagbabago sa premium schedules ay “synched with planned benefit roll-outs.”

Hangad din aniya ng Chief Executive Marcos na i- block ang pagtataas sa salary ceiling mula ₱80,000 na magiging ₱90,000.

“In light of the prevailing socioeconomic challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide financial relief to our countrymen amidst these difficult times, please be informed that the President has directed the PhilHealth to suspend the abovementioned increase in premium rate and income ceiling…,” ang nakasaad sa dokumento.

“I love this house because it’s very cozy… Every now and then, we visit because we love how relaxing it is here. Pagpasok namin, wala na ‘yung stress,” sabi ni Sharon.

Pinakita niya sa vlog na may titulong ‘MEGA – Farmhouse Holiday Wonderland’, na napapaligiran ito ng iba’t-ibang puno at halaman, ang bahay ay may three bedrooms, living at dining area, kusina, at maluwag na balkonahe.

Pinalamutian ang kanilang tahanan na may parehong Filipino at American-themed na Christmas decor na makikita sa buong bahay.

Kasama rin sa farmhouse ang mga piraso mula sa kanilang lumang tahanan sa Cavite, tulad ng two-piece center table, lighting fixture, at accordion glass door, na inamin niyang may kamahalan.

PBBM, hangad na palakasin ang bilateral ties sa kanyang China trip

LAYON ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na mas palakasin pa ang bilateral ties ng Pilipinas sa China sa kanyang state visit sa Beijing, simula Martes, Enero 3.

Kabilang dito ang pakikipag-usap sa aspeto ng kooperasyon lalo na sa larangan ng ekonomiya, kalakal at pamumuhunan at maritime security. Para sa Department of Foreign Affairs, ang mga ito ay “great significance” ng biyahe ng Pangulo.

At dahil kapuwa galing sa “fresh mandates” sina Pangulong Marcos at Chinese President Xi Jinping dahil sa kamakailan lamang na halalan, inaasahan na ang state visit ay magtatakda ng “magandang tunog” sa bilateral relations sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa sa mga darating na taon.

Kaugnay nito, ang bilateral agreements na nakatakdang lagdaan sa state visit ni Pangulong Marcos sa China ay kinabibilangan ng “trade and investment, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, people-to-people exchanges, at maritime security.”

Samantala, para sa ilang analysts, ang state visit ay pahiwatig o indikasyon ng foreign policy direction ni Pangulong Marcos.

“The trip is also a test of PBBM’s diplomatic acumen because, for China, our relationship with the US is too close. They think we are pivoting towards the US so PBBM will have to convince China, and we have an independent foreign policy and we are not taking sides,” ayon kay Beijing-based journalist Benjamin Lim.

Inaasahan din na babanggitin ni Pangulong Marcos ang mga concerns sa West Philippine Sea sa kanyang pakikipagpulong kay Xi.

Ang magkabilang panig ay lalagda ng isang kasunduan upang maiwasan ang miscommunication sa pinagtatalunang lugar.

“The ball is in their court. They have to be the one to act fairly. How can you negotiate properly? It’s like you’re negotiating under conditions of coercion and duress. Hindi tama ‘yun [That’s not right]. Nothing will happen if China is really sincere and want to show good faith,” ang wika naman ni maritime law expert Jay Batongbacal.

Buwan ng Disyembre ng nakaraang taon, binatikos ng mga senador ang mga aktibidad ng China sa West Philippine Sea.

Nanindigan naman ang China na ang maritime issue ay hindi kabuuan o bubuo sa relasyon sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.

“It’s normal to have differences among neighbors. Do not allow the differences to effect or hijack our bilateral relations because we need to get along in a peaceful manner,” ayon kay Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian.

Sinabi naman ng ilang analysts na hindi dapat i- discount o hindi dapat tawadan ang impluwensiya ng China sa rehiyon at naging ambag nito sa economic recovery.

“China is a neighbor. We can’t move the Philippines or move China away for better or worse. We have to coexist. We have to make the best out of it,” ayon kay Lim. (Daris Jose)

Utang ng Pilipinas nanatili sa P13.64 trilyon

HALOS hindi gumalaw ang “outstanding debt” ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas nitong Nobyembre 2022 sa P13.64 trilyon kasabay ng pagtaas ng halaga ng piso.

Ito ang ibinahagi ng Bureau of Treasury, Martes, ilang buwan matapos ipayo ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos na iwasan ang “hindi kinakailangang gastusin” at magpatupad ng mga bagong buwis.

“For the month, NG’s total debt portfolio marginally increased by P3.15 billion or 0.02% from the end-ctober 2022 level primarily due to the effect of local currency appreciation against the US dollar on foreign currency loans,” wika ng Treasury sa isang pahayag kanina.

“However, NG debt has increased by P1.92 trillion or 16.33% since end-December 2021.”

Ang domestic debt noong Nobyembre ay umakyat ng 0.78% o P72.73 bilyon kumpara sa pagkakautang isang buwan bago ito. Ito ang bumubuo sa 69.1% kabuuang utang ng bansa ngayon.

Nadagdagdan ito ng P75.76 bilyon dahil sa net issuance ng government securities ngunit nabawasan ng P3.03 bilyon dahil sa pagtaas ng halaga ng piso kontra dolyar.

Pumalo naman na sa P4.22 trilyon ang halaga ng external debt, na siyang mas mababa ng 1.62% o P72.73 bilyon kumpara sa end-October 2022 level.

“NG’s external debt amounted to P4.22 trillion, P69.58 billion or 1.62% lower than the end-October 2022 level due to the P106.98 billion impact of local currency appreciation and P13.38 billion net repayment,” dagdag pa ng Treasury.

“This was tempered by the net impact of third-currency fluctuations against the US dollar amounting to P50.78 billion.”

Kumakatawan ang utang panlabas sa 30.9% ng kabuuang debt portfolio ng bansa.

Kamakailan lang nang sabihin ni Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno na hindi dapat mabahala sa mataas na debt level ng Pilipinas lalo na’t hindi pa nakikita ang recession lalo na’t may positibong mga sinyales na nagtuturo sa “strong recovery.”

Matatandaang malaki ang inutang ng nakaraang administrasyong Duterte kasabay ng COVID-19 pandemic, bagay na naiwan sa kasalukuyang administrasyon. (Daris Jose)

First time lang sumali, title holder agad: CRISTINA, kinoronahan bilang ‘Noble Queen of the Universe 2022’

BONGGA ang naging salubong ng eventologist na si Tim Yap sa New Year dahil kinasal siya ulit sa kanyang partner na si Javi Martinez.

Sa Instagram ay pinost ni Tim ang photo nila ni Javi na magka-holding hands habang nasa Amapulo beach sila at may caption na “married… again.”

Kinasal si Tim at ang events director na si Javi noong December 25, 2018 sa New York. Isa sa naging witness ng kanilang intimate wedding ay ang Broadway star na si Lea Salonga.

Hindi naman binanggit ni Tim kunsaan naganap ang renewal of vows ni Javi. Binati sila ng maraming kaibigan at may nag-comment pa na hindi na naman daw sila ulit naimbitahan.

Kinoronahan si Kring-Kring bilang Noble Queen of the Universe 2022 noong nakaraang December 29 sa Tokyo Prince Hotel sa Japan.

Ito ang first time na sumali ng 52-year old actress-politician sa isang beauty pageant at sinuwerteng mauwi niya ang korona.

Bukod sa title, na-proclaim din si Kring-Kring na Ambassador of Humanity.

Kinabog lang naman ni Kring-Kring ang maraming candidates, kabilang na ang dalawang re-representatives ng Japan na sina Yuko Boguchi (Noble Queen Globe, Ambassador Queen of Health and Wellness) at Jenny Miglioretto (Noble Queen Tourism, Ambassador Queen of Integrity) na at USA na si Marjorie Renner (Noble Queen of the Universe LTD, Ambassador Queen of Goodwill, Best in Active Wear)

Ang dalawa pang representative ng Pilipinas ay nakatanggap din ng special title at awards: Sheralene Shirata (Noble Queen Earth, Ambassador Queen of Environment and Best in National Costume) and Leira Buan (Noble Queen International, Ambassador Queen of Respect and Best in Long Gown).

Ang unang nagwaging Noble Queen of the Universe ay si Patricia Javier noong 2019.

SA interview ni Prince Harry with Anderson Cooper sa programang 60 Minutes, sinabi nito na wala na raw posibilidad na balikan niya in the future ang kanyang royal duties at maging full-time member ng royal family.

Naging public nga ang dapat ay internal problem ni Harry sa kanyang pamiltya. Nakadagdag pa raw dito ay ang paglabas ng docu-series na Harry & Meghan sa Netflix.

Ayon sa Duke of Sussex, wala raw siyang balak na isapubliko ang problema nila ni Meghan with the royal family. Pero wala raw siyang choice dahil wala raw nakikinig sa kanila at wala silang makuhang proteksyon.

Sey ni Harry: “Every single time I tried to do it privately, there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife. You know, the family motto is ‘never complain, never explain’… It’s just a motto and it doesn’t really… hold.

“Through leaks, they will speak or have a conversation with the correspondent and that correspondent will literally be spoon-fed information and write the story, and at the bottom of it they will say they reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment, but the whole story is Buckingham Palace commenting.

“So when we’re being told for the last six years we can’t put a statement out to protect you, but you do it for other members of the family, there becomes a point when silence is betrayal.”

Sa kabilang banda, gusto naman ni Harry na magkaroon na maayos na reconciliation with his father, King Charles at sa nakakatandang kapatid na si Prince William. Pero mukhang malabo raw itong mangyari.

“It never needed to be this way. I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back, but they have shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile,” diin pa ni Harry.
